VEGETATION COVER MONITORING IN MOSUL CITY USING REMOTE SENSING TECHNIQUE
...Show More Authors

This study aims to identify changes in vegetation cover and its impact on the climate of Mosul City. The analytical method of the study relies on changes in Land Use/Land Cover (LULC), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and Land Surface Temperature (LST); GIS technology was used to measure these statistics. Landsat (5,8) imagery was used to detect the change in vegetation cover change and land surface temperature during the study period from 2010 to 2022, where the unsupervised classification technique was used to determine LU variations. The results revealed significant changes among the LU classes during the study period, primarily due to human activities. The most prominent change in LU was the urban expansion of agricultural

A Study of the Effects of the Solar Cycle 22, on the Critical Frequencies of F1 Layer over Baghdad
...Show More Authors

This paper aims to study the effects of the long term solar activity on the critical frequencies of ionospheric F1 layer over Baghdad city, during the solar cycle 22, within (1988- 1995). It is found that the critical frequency of this layer is closely related to the sunspots number during the years of the solar cycle 22, at a middle latitude region of the world. The study discussed the effect of sunspot numbers and solar events on the electron densities of F1 layer, which is the most important ionospheric parameter.

Evaluating the impact of neurophysiological fatigue patterns on tactical decision-making in elite football players using wearable EEG technology
...Show More Authors

Introduction: Elite football performance hinges on rapid tactical decision-making under physical and cognitive strain. While peripheral fatigue’s effects on motor output are well documented, the neurophysiological markers of mental fatigue and their impact on in-game decision making remain underexplored. Objective: To determine how EEG-derived central fatigue indices—frontal theta power and the theta/alpha ratio—relate to tactical decision accuracy and speed in elite football players. Methodology: Twenty male national-level footballers (age 22.4 ± 2.1 years; ≥ 5 years’ experience) completed the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 while wearing an 8-channel dry-electrode frontal EEG headset. Frontal theta

The effect of purposeful three-dimensional training on developing some motor abilities and skill performance among female fencing players
...Show More Authors

The study highlights the critical need to focus on the physical, motor, and technical abilities of female fencing players by developing and testing modern, scientifically-based training methodologies tailored to the specific demands of the sport. The study's objective was to assess the effectiveness of targeted three-dimensional training in enhancing the participants' motor skills and technical performance. Utilizing an experimental design, the study involved forming both experimental and control groups. The sample comprised 16 female fencers from the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls. After excluding two players during the exploratory phase, the remaining 14 were evenly divided into experimental and contro

Modified Polyvinyl Alcohol Containing New Imides / Iron Oxide Nanoparticles :Synthesis , Characterization and  Biological Evaluation
...Show More Authors

A series of new imides compounds[1-4] were synthesized from reaction of tetrachlorophthalic anhydride or nitro phthalic anhydride or malic anhydride or Succinic anhydride  with  4-amino benzene thiol under fusion conditions. Chloroacetic acid has been added after compounds [1-4] reacted with distilled H2O and Na2CO3, producing compounds [5-8]. In benzene, compounds [5-8] also interacted with the thionyl chloride to produce [9-12]. Poly (vinyl alcohol) was chemically modified by reacting PVA with compounds [9-12] and dimethyl formamide to produce compounds [13-16]. Iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) are mixed with modified PVA [13-16] to create nanocomposites [17-20]. Spectral and analytical data from synthesized compounds, such as 1

Using Klebsiella oxytoca bacteria to treat Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate (SLES) Pollution
...Show More Authors

Sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), a surfactant frequently incorporated into detergent formulations, typically ends up in wastewater treatment facilities after use. The present study aims to investigate the efficacy of bacteria isolated from Iraqi wastewater in removing SLES. Genetic analysis (16S rRNA) revealed that this strain is Klebsiella oxytoca. Three temperatures (30, 35 and 40) oC and pH values (5,7 and 9) were selected for this study, and three concentrations of SLES (25, 50, 100) mg/l were used. The SLES anionic surfactant demonstrated that the best biodegradation by Klebsiella oxytoca occurred at 30 oC and both pH 7 and 9, while the removal percentage for them was 98.32% and 95.4 %, res

Molecular and cytological detection of BK polyoma virus in kidney failure patients
...Show More Authors

These days, the kidney transplant community widely agrees that BK virus infections are the main driver behind kidney impairment and transplant failures. A total of 110 kidney failure patients were enrolled in this study. Five ml of blood was collected from each patient, the plasma was separated, and then the plasma samples were stored until DNA extraction was performed. Molecular detection of BK was done by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Urine samples were also obtained for cytological detection and investigation of decoy cell. The results of the PCR technique for the current study revealed that 12 patients were infected with the BK polyoma virus at a prevalence rate of 10.9 %, with 8 infections in males and 4 infections in females, wi

Statistical Comparison of Some Machine Learning Techniques: A Case Study for Classifying Domestic Violence Crimes in Iraq
...Show More Authors

Crime classification and prediction represents a contemporary societal trend aimed at reducing or preventing criminal activities. One such crime is domestic violence, a global phenomenon known as the shadow pandemic or the hidden pandemic. This study aims to analyse data related to domestic violence crimes in Iraq and compare the effectiveness of the Random Forest (RF), Decision Tree (DT) and Naïve Bayes (NB) models using different metrics to develop an accurate model for classifying or predicting the type of domestic violence (physical or non-physical). The research employs a methodological framework that includes several stages. Subsequently, the three classifiers RF, DT, and NB are applied to the dataset to facilitate classification

Detection of tetracycline and β-lactam resistance genes in Shigella species isolated from shigellosis cases in Iraq
...Show More Authors

Shigella is most commonly spread through the fecal-oral route, rather than through contaminated food, water, or swimming pools. A recent study collected 103 fecal samples of Shigella spp. from hospitals and laboratories across Iraq, spanning from July 2022 to June 2023. The samples were sourced from various cities, including Baghdad (65), Nasiriya (14), Babylon (11), Najaf (9), and Kirkuk (4). In this study, we examined Shigella species isolated from diarrhea samples for the presence of penicillin- and tetracycline-resistant genes. Tetracycline resistance genes (tetA and tetB) were detected in 96 (93%) and 84 (82%) isolates, respectively. Both genes (tetA and tetB) were detec

Modulation Effect of Muntingia calabura Leaves Extracts Supplementation in High Fat Diet-Administrated BALB/c Mouse
...Show More Authors

Hyperglycemia is recognized as the primary indicator of diabetes. The occurrence of Hyperglycemia results from a combination of contributing factors, such as dietary habits, exercise routines, and overall lifestyle choices. Accumulating evidence showed the hyperglycemia also causes inflammation, which changes the body's cellular and immune systems. Similarly, the acute hyperglycemia increases the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6. The present study aimed to determine the effect of Muntingia calabura leaves extracts administration toward the immune system in hyperglycemia-induced high-fat diet in mouse model. Five experimental groups were applied in this study, including the control group, hyperglycemic
