Das literarische Bild und die sprachliche Struktur der Sprichwörter bei der gegenseitigen Übersetzung im Deutschen und Arabischen The literary image in the translation of the German and Arabic proverbs
...Show More Authors

Vorwort:

Abstract

This research is concerned with the literary style of the proverbs being a public inherited which reflects the culture of different societies and their traditions .
As human contact between different  communities is already established long time ago, this made a lot of  proverbs alike in many different cultures and languages .
Proverbs are divided into three types :
1- proverbs that hold the same form and linguistic structure .
2- Proverbs that share the same meaning but are different in linguistic structure .
3- Proverbs that are not similar neither in meaning nor in linguistic structure .

The use of Proverbs was studied according to their meaning and effect in language because they decrease the amount of phrases used to express an idea and they are easily understood by people.

...Show More Authors

Gender and culture are among the factors that influence the process of understanding and interpreting different types of communication, especially images. The current study, which is a part of a master’s thesis, aims at investigating the role of gender and culture in interpreting and understanding the caricatures that deal with women’s issues in Arab societies. To this end, the researchers adopted Barthes’ (1957) concepts of denotation and connotation in his theory of mythologies in addition to Langacker’s (1987) theory of (Domains). Componential Analysis of Hatred Synonymy in the Lexicons of English and Standard Arabic
...Show More Authors

ABSTRACT This paper has a three-pronged objective: offering a unitary set of semantic distinctive features to the analysis of nominal “hatred synonyms” in the lexicon of both English and Standard Arabic (SA), applying it procedurally to test its scope of functionality crosslinguistically, and singling out the closest noun synonymous equivalents among the membership of the two sets in this particular lexical semantic field in both languages. The componential analysis and the matching procedures carried have been functional in identifying ten totally matching equivalents (i.e. at 55.6%), and eight partially matching ones (i.e. at %44.4%). This result shows that while total matching equivalences do exist in the translation of certain Eng

The layered structure of the clause in English and Arabic ditransitive verbs: A Role and Reference Grammar Perspective
...Show More Authors

This paper presents the syntactic dimension of ditransitive verbs in terms of the universal theory of Role and Reference Grammar (RRG). This theory is syntactic in nature, but it also covers the semantic as well as the pragmatic aspects of any linguistic phenomenon. It assumes a universal framework through which syntactic constructions can be analyzed. However, the morphological structure that each language enjoys renders the universal treatment more complicated and can question the universal nature of such a theory. In this paper, an attempt is made to check if the universal tenet of the theory is maintained over two typologically different languages: English and Arabic in respect of the way that double-object constructions (DOCs)

Investigating the Mastering of the Pronunciation of Weak and Strong Forms of English Function Words
...Show More Authors

The weak and strong forms are so called because it is not their lexical content that primary matter, but the role they have in the sentence. The problematic confusion, our students encounter, in recognizing and producing the correct pronunciation of weak and strong forms of the English function words is the main incentive behind conducting  this study. In order to gather the data, this paper used two types of tests: a recognition test and a production test. The general results reached  through the analysis of the students' answers seem to conform to the researcher's assumption: students face a critical problem in recognizing and producing correct pronunciation of the weak and strong forms of the English funct
