Background: In the traditional protocol, the patient should wait after extraction up to six months to place the dental implant in healed bone, this waiting time accompanied by varying degrees of alveolar bone changes. In order to overcome these problems, immediate implant placement in the fresh extraction socket was introduced. The Aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of the immediate implant placement utilizing Resonance Frequency Analysis (RFA) to quantify implant stability and osseointegration. Materials and Methods: A total of (23) patients participated in the study, receiving (44) implants placed in the sockets of teeth indicated for extraction. Clinical and radiographic preoperative assessment was accomplished for each patient, β-TCP (combined with collagen membrane) was used to fill gaps ≥ (2 mm) and to repair bone defects. Implant stability quotient (ISQ) values were measured for the implants at baseline and at 16 weeks. Postoperative clinical and radiographic evaluation was applied for each patient. Results: A total of (22) patients received (41) implants completed the follow-up period, all these implants survived (100% survival rate) with no signs and symptoms of failure. The mean of ISQ value at baseline was (65.32±9.50), the mean of ISQ value at 16 weeks was (69.78±7.15), paired samples statistic showed high significant increase in the implant stability (P<0.01). Application of guided bone regeneration (GBR) showed no significant difference on ISQ value at baseline and at (16 weeks), but ISQ values increased significantly in GBR cases during the healing period. Conclusions: Immediate implant placement is a predictable treatment approach; it has the benefit of reducing treatment time and the numbers of surgical procedures when careful preoperative examination and appropriate intraoperative protocol is applied.
Aims: To assess the success rate and implant stability changes of narrow dental implants (NDIs) during the osseous healing period. Materials and methods: This prospective observational clinical study included 21 patients with narrow alveolar ridge of restricted mesiodistal interdental span who received NDIs. The alveolar ridge width was determined by the ridge mapping technique. Implant stability was measured using Periotest® M immediately after implant insertion then after 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks postoperatively. The outcome variables were success rate and implant stability changes during the healing period. The statistical analysis included one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey\'s multiple comparisons test, values < 0.05 w

However, due to its hydrophobic nature and lack of cellular adhesion properties, it has poor integration with bone tissue. Methods: A fractional CO2 laser was used with various parameters for surface texturing of PEEK substrate to enhance its surface properties. An optical microscope and field-emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) were used to examine the surface morphology of untextured and laser-textured samples. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) was performed to determine the effect of the laser on the microstructure of PEEK. Surface microroughness, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and wettability were invest

Quantitative computed tomography (CT) (i.e., quantitative interpretation of values derived from Hounsfield units with a suitable calibration procedure) is the modality of choice to determine BMD. The aim of the present clinical study is to determine the local bone density in dental implant recipient sites using computerized tomography. Material and method: The sample consisted of (72) Iraqi patients whom referred to Al-Kharkh General hospital, Spiral CT scan Department for bone quality and quantity assessment after one wee

Much considerable attention has been paid to modify the implant surface. Coating of dental implant with a biocomposite material of suitable properties can improve osseointegration. And this is the main concern of this study. The aim of present study was to evaluate the use of a biocomposite coating of dental implant with (ceramic nano Al2O3 and metalic AgNo3) on the bond strength at bone – implant interface and tissue reaction. Materials and methods: A total number of forty-eight screws, CpTi dental implant used in this study. Half of these screws were coated with a biocomposite material of nano (Al2O3and AgNo3), thi

Show MoreIncremental sheet forming (ISF) process offers a high degree of flexibility in the manufacturing of different sheet parts, which makes it an ideal candidate for prototype parts as well as efficient at fabricating various customized products at low production costs compared to traditionally used processes. However, parts produced in this process exhibit notable geometrical inaccuracy and considerable thickness reduction. In this paper, the single point incremental sheet forming variant of the process has been implemented to manufacture a highly customized cranial implant starting from the computed tomography (CT) scan data of the patient's anatomy. A methodology, from the modeling to the realization of the implant, is presented and discus

Our attempt is using a biomaterial system that is easily obtained and applicable and has the ability to provoke osteoinductive growth factor to enhance bone formation at the site of application. One of these natural polymers is hyaluronic acid. Material and methods: Sixty machined surface implants from commercially pure titanium rod inserted in thirty NewZealand rabbits. Two implants placed in both tibia of each rabbit. The animals scarified at 1, 2 and 4 weeks after implantation (10 rabbits for each interval). For all of animals the right tibia’s implant was control (uncoated) and the left one was experimental (coated with 0.1ml Hyaluro

Show MoreBackground: Simultaneous and staged guided bone regeneration (GBR) is one of the several surgical techniques that have been developed in the past two decades to regenerate bone and thus to allow implant placement in compromised sites (fenestration and dehiscence). It is a surgical procedure that consists of the placement of a cell-occlusive physical barrier between the connective tissue and the alveolar bone defect. The treatment concept advocates that regeneration of osseous defects is predictably attainable via the application of occlusive membranes, which mechanically exclude non-osteogenic cell populations from the surrounding soft tissues, thereby allowing osteogenic cell populations originating from the parent bone to inhabi

Clinical features such as osseointegration and stability, in addition to the endurance of the integration urged the researchers towards a better understanding of the design parameters that control long term success of the implants. It is therefore necessary to quantify the effect of changing implant design parameters on interface stress distribution within the maxilla bone. Methods and Materials: A 3D-finite element study was conducted to investigate the effect of changing implant shape parameters (implant body design and implant thread depth) on stress distribution while insertion of the implant in two diff
