Wind farm assessment project have several steps. This paper aim on the second step which is harvesting the roads properties from the loading point to the construction point. The difficulties of examining the roads whether they are appropriate or not for transporting wind turbine components. The selected site for establishing wind farm is located at Maysan province and has 262 km distance from Um – Qaser port. The results through applying remote sensing and GIS techniques on Landsat (30 m resolution) and QuckBird (0.6 m resolution) are summarized by (2 hard turn, 18 Bridges that crossing over, and 13 Bridges passing under).
The aim of most researchers is to complete full projects for establishing renewable sources stations. The project depend on many variables, which is called criteria, that’s makes the project workable or not. The criterion which studied in this paper is roads suitability for transporting turbines from the loading ports to construction site. One of the important factors which must provide paved roads for transportation and within standard. Southern Um-Qasr port is the best choice to receive wind turbine equipments. The nods down to the construction region will face 0 turns, 2 bridges that crosses over and 23 bridges that passes underneath.
The main objective of the paper is to study the possibility of erecting 2 MW wind turbine in the south of Iraq (Barjisiah site) by utilizing WAsP model. Wind potential and output predicted the power of WT at a supposed site was calculated. The results for proposed WT showed the WT has a weak performance due to its high capacity and low potential of wind speeds at this site. So, the WT will provide power for a limited time during the year due to its operating at the zone under the rated wind speed.
Matching between wind site characteristics and wind turbine characteristics for three selected sites in Iraq was carried out. Site-turbine matching for potential wind power application in Iraq has not yet been well reported on. Thus, in this study, five years’ wind speed data for sites located in Baghdad (33.34N, 44.40E), Nasiriyah (31.05N, 46.25E), and Basrah (30.50N, 47.78E) were collected.
