El eufemismo y el tabú están relacionados estrechamente, aunque por ciertos motivos el segundo concepto suele ser sustituido por el primero, sea como sea. El Eufemismo y el tabú son dos fenómenos lingüísticos diferentes, donde el término «tabú» designa conductas, acciones o conjunto de valores prohibidos, censurados o moralmente inaceptables por un grupo humano y opuesto a las convenciones sociales. El tabú está presente en las culturas de todas las épocas, pero varía enormemente de una sociedad a otra. Mientras,«el eufemismo» es una herramienta que se emplea en el lenguaje de prestigio para evitar las palabras malsonantes, herir la sensibilidad de otras personas o evitar la falta de respeto.
