Relationship between screen watching and overweight or obesity in a Sample of Iraqi adolescents
...Show More Authors

Background: Obesity represents a clear and
present danger to the health of children and
adolescents. Its prevalence among American
youth has doubled in the past 3 decades, and
there are now more overweight and obese
adults in the United States than adults of
normal weight.
Objectives of the study:
1- Finding whether screen watching among
adolescents has an effect on increasing
prevalence overweight and obesity.
2- The effect of other variables like physical
activity, eating in front of screen, eating under
stress on obesity and overweight among the
subjects sample.
Patients &Methods: During 3 months period a
cross sectional survey was conducted on 4
high schools at Baghdad with total sample of
500 subjects using time table to assess screen
watching hours per week,
Results:Higher percentagesof overweight &
obesity were found among female adolescents
than males, significant associations was
obvious among total sample & male sample
betweenthe level of physical activity &
BMI,while there was no significant
association among female sample for the same
variables , There was obvious significant
association between BMI a time spending in
screen watching, eatingin front of screen, ,
eating under stressin the total & male samples.
Conclusion: Increased levels of physical
activity are associated with a lower BMI and
less time spent on screen watching .in addition
.stress-induced eating may be one factor
contributing to the development of obesity;
furthermore habits like eating in front of
screen could increase BMI of an adolescent.

Estimating the reliability function of Kumaraswamy distribution data
...Show More Authors

The aim of this study is to estimate the parameters and reliability function for kumaraswamy distribution of this two positive parameter  (a,b > 0), which is a continuous probability that has many characterstics with the beta distribution with extra advantages.

The shape of the function for this distribution and the most important characterstics are explained and estimated the two parameter (a,b) and the reliability function for this distribution by using the maximum likelihood method (MLE) and Bayes methods. simulation experiments are conducts to explain the behaviour of the estimation methods for different sizes depending on the mean squared error criterion the results show that the Bayes is bet

Swelling Behavior of Cross-link PVA with Glutaraldehyde
...Show More Authors

The polymeric hydrogels composed of poly vinyl alcohol (m.wt 72000) and glutaraldehyde(5%,8% and 10%) , have been thermally prepared for the purpose of studying their swelling and drug release behavior . The swelling ratio was measured for all the hydrogel samples at 37°C, in three different media pH (1.2, 4.7 and 6.8) as a function of time. The results show that the maximum swelling ratios were arranged as follows :pH =6.8 > pH =4.7 > pH =1.2 hydrogels cross linked PVA showed a typical pH responsive behavior such as high pH has maximum swelling while low pH shows minimum swelling.

Optical properties of Ternary Se80-xTe20Gex Thin Films
...Show More Authors

The present paper deals with prepared of ternary Se80-xTe20Gex system alloys and thin films. The XRD analysis improved that the amorphous structure of alloys and thin films for ternary Se80-xTe20Gex (at x=10and 20at.%Ge) which prepared by thermal evaporation techniques with thickness 250 nm. The optical energy gap measurements show that the optical energy gap decreases with increasing of (Ge) content from (1.7 to 1.47 eV)
It is found that the optical constants, such as refractive
index ,extinction coefficient, real and imaginary dielectric
constant are non systematic with increasing of Ge contents
and annealing temperatures

Ten isolates were collected from different clinical sources from laboratory in medicine century . These isolates were belonging to the genus Salmonella depending on morphological and biochemical tests . The antibiotic scussptibility tests against 10 antibiotics were examined , and it was found that the 60% isolates have multiple resistant to antibiotic ,(70%) of isolates were resistant to ampicillin,(50%) were resistant to augmentin ,(40%) were resistant to ceftriaxone ,(20%) were resistant to cefotaxime and (10%) were resistant to ciprofloxacin and tetracycline while all isolates showed sensitivity to piperacillin, imipenem, amikacin and erythromycin .The ability of Salmonela isolates to produce ?-lactamase enzymes were tested usin

Bayesian Inference for Reliability Function of Gompertz Distribution
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>In this paper, some Bayes estimators of the reliability function of Gompertz distribution have been derived based on generalized weighted loss function. In order to get a best understanding of the behaviour of Bayesian estimators, a non-informative prior as well as an informative prior represented by exponential distribution is considered. Monte-Carlo simulation have been employed to compare the performance of different estimates for the reliability function of Gompertz distribution based on Integrated mean squared errors. It was found that Bayes estimators with exponential prior information under the generalized weighted loss function were generally better than the estimators based o</p> ... Show More

Study About The Robustness Of The Bayesian Criterion
...Show More Authors

In this research work an attempt has been made to investigate about the Robustness of the Bayesian Information criterion to estimate the order of the autoregressive process when the error of this model,  Submits to a specific distributions and different cases of the time series on various size of samples by using the simulation,  This criterion has been studied by depending on ten distributions, they are (Normal, log-Normal, continues uniform, Gamma , Exponential, Gamble, Cauchy, Poisson, Binomial, Discrete uniform) distributions, and then it has been reached to many collection and recommendations related to this object , when the series residual variable is subject to each  ( Poisson , Binomial , Exponential , Dis

Motivational efficacy of lasers on marrow haemopoetic cells
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Lasers has been proved to increase tissue oxygenation, activate marrow progenitor cells, expanse the microcirculation, accelerate the restoration of functions, stimulate adaptation ability and stabilization of the hormonal status. The semisolid tissue present in the epiphysis of the bone where it’s structure is spongy or cancellous is bone marrow and it formed about 4% of body weight, the marrow is composed of hemopoietic cells, however, the structure of the marrow is of both cellular and non – cellular components. The hemopoietic stem cells are responsible of producing white blood cells, red corpuscles, platelets in addition to the fibroblasts, macrophages, adipocytes, osteoblast</p> ... Show More

Strength Enhancement of Prestressed Concrete Dapped-End Girders
...Show More Authors

This paper presents the application of nonlinear finite element models in the analysis of dappedends pre-stressed reinforced concrete girders under static loading by using ANSYS software. The girder dimensions are (4.90 m span, 0.40 m depth, 0.20 m width, 0.20 m nib depth, and 0.10 m nib length) and the parameters considered in this research are the pre-stress effect, and strand profile (straight and draped). The numerical results are compared with the experimental results of the same girders. The comparisons are carried out in terms of initial prestress effect, load- deflection curve, and failure load. Good agreement was obtained between the analytical and experimental results. Even that, the numerical model was stiffer than the experiment

Preparation of Industrial Greases from Aircraft Waste Oils
...Show More Authors

The aim of this research is to benefit from recycl the aircraft waste oils which is discarded in sewage network, to be used in preparation of greases for industrial purposes and to reduce the environmental pollution. In this research synthetic greases were prepared with special specifications by mixing the waste oils after treating with (silica gel as adsorbent agent, and filtration to precipitate impurities then heated to 110 C? to get rid of water) bentonite produced in Iraq which is available and cheap with existence of high density polyethylene at specific conditions of ( heating and mixing) . The best weight proportion were reached, then paraffin wax and additives were added to improve the properties of grease and give the
