Study the Effect of Rifampicin in the Level of Thyroid's Gland Hormones and Thyroid - Stimulating Hormone in Rabbits

The aim of this study was intended to study the effect of rifampicin in the level of thyroid's gland hormones (T4 ØŒT3) and thyroid -stimulating hormone (TSH) in rabbits.            Eight male rabbits were used through out this study, their weights were measured before the starting of the experiment. Animals were divided into two groups (each group contains 4 rabbits), the first group was administrated daily with 15 mg/Kg physiological normal saline for 35 days and used as a control group, while the second group was administrated with 15 mg /Kg daily for 35 day of rifampicin capsule 300 mg.       At the end of the experiment, all of animal groups were weighted and the sera was prepared to measure the hormones.         The results showed that there was a significant decrease (P < 0.05) in the mean of animals weights in the second group that was  treated with rifampicin in comparison with the control group. A significant increase (P < 0.05)was  in T4, and T3 hormones level, and a significant decrease (P < 0.05)was in TSH hormone level in the second group that treated with rifampicin in comparison with the control group.      From this study, can conclude that rifampicin has a negative effect on thyroid gland function which might disorder on the secretion activity of thyroid gland  hormones.

Evaluation of Cytotoxicity and Biocompatibility of Ti2AlC in Rabbits

Background: The Titanium and its alloys are suitable for dental implant and medical applications. Biocompatibility of the materials is a major factor in determining the success of the implant and has a great impact on their rate of osseointegration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the biocompatibility and cytotoxicity of Ti2AlC in comparison to CPTi & Ti6Al7Nb in rabbits. Materials and Methods: 10 male New Zealand White rabbits, weighing (2-2.5 kg), aged (10-12 months) were used in this study. Cylindrical implants were prepared from the study materials (CPTi, Ti6Al7Nb and Ti2AlC) with (8mm) height and (3mm) diameter for the evaluation of tissue response and disc specimens were prepared with (6 mm) diameter and (2 mm) thickness for ev

Liver Repair in Rabbits Using 532 nm Nd:YAG Laser; In Vivo Study

The main goal of this in vivo study was to evaluate the effect of 532nm Q-switched Nd: YAG Laser in combination with Human Serum Albumin 20% concentration (as a welding aid) on the liver tissue repair clinically, and histologically. The animals used in this study were 21 male rabbits divided into three main groups: control group (3 rabbits), conventionally treated group (9 rabbits) and Laser treated group (9 rabbits). Each two main groups (conventional and laser treated) consist of three sub-groups depending on the response evaluation at three different periods. The Laser group was treated using 532nm Q-switched Nd: YAG laser after adding human serum albumin immediately on the incised liver’s tissue. The energy of was 460mJ, and 4Hz fr

Study the effect of a new nikel (II) Complex and anticancer drug (cp) on Liver enzyme activity (GPT,GOT) and Creatinine level in Kidney of femal mice

This study involved the effect of anew nickel (II) complexs with formla [NiL2(H2O)2].2.5ETOH where L=Bis[5-(p-nitrophenyL)-4-phenyL-1,2,4-traizole-3-dithocarbamato hydrazide] diaqua. nickel(II). Ethanol(2.5).and anti-cancer drug cyclophosphamide on specific actifity of two Liver enzymes (GOT,GPT) in the (Liver, kidney) tissues and on the creatinine Level in the kidney byUtilizing an invivosystem in femalmice. The result showed that inhibition in the activity of GPT and GOT enzymes in theLiver and in both nickel (II) complex and cyclophosphamide drug (CP) . mice weretreated with three doses (90,180,320) µg/mouse for three days for each group. The Liver show's the highest rate of GPT inhibition was about 97.43% at180µg/mouse regarding the ki

The effect of blood lead level on packed cell volume in a sample of Iraqi population.

Background: Low hemoglobin levels and lead exposure remain significant health issues in many parts of the world, often occurring together, however most of the researches concentrate on the effect of high levels of lead .This study aimed to demonstrate the effect of blood lead level on hemoglobin and packed cell volume (PCV).
Patients and Methods: Fifty eight adult volunteers were enrolled in this study with age range between 23 and 55 years, working in the different departments in medical college of Baghdad University. Whole blood was withdrawn in EDTA tubes. Hemoglobin and PCV were measured and blood lead level was estimated using blood lead testing system including lead care kit and lead care analyzer.
Results: After measuring bl

Comparative histomorphological and immunohistochemical study of parathyroid gland in two Iraqi mammals (Weasel, Herpestes javanicus and long-ear hedgehog, Hemiechinus auritus)

The present study aimed to investigate the anatomy, histology, and immunohistochemistry of parathyroid gland in two Iraqi mammals (Weasel, Herpestes javanicus and Long-ear hedgehog, Hemiechinus auritus) as a comparative study. A total of (20) animal for each species were used in the present study. Animals collected were immediately anesthesia and dissected to get the parathyroid gland. Methods of Humason and Bancroft and Stevens were employed for histological techniques. Different stains were used (Hematoxylin- Eosin stain-(H & E), Periodic Acid Schiff stain-(PAS), Azan stain, and Methyl Blue stain-(MB)) for staining the histological sections. Anti-calcitonin, code140778 marker used for immune-histochemical study. Results of the present stu

Association between serum fructose level and insulin resistance in women with polycystic ovary syndrome: The effect of obesity

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) women's most prevalent endocrinology condition is a mixture of environmentally and genetically adduced causing PCOS. The relationship between monosaccharide and PCOS is largely unknown.

Objective: This research was designed to investigate the relationship between blood levels of fructose, insulin resistance, and androgen hormone in women with PCOS, and the effect of obesity on the obtained result, as well as to study the efficacy of serum fructose as a biomarker in the diagnosis of PCOS.

Cases and methods: This case-control research study was conducted at the Gynecology Clinic and Infertility Center, in Baghdad Teaching Hospital

A comparative study of retinol-binding protein-4 and progranulin in iraqi women with thyroid disorder

Thyroid hormones (TH) regulate the metabolic processes required for normal development and growth; also, to organizemetabolism in adults, any defect in thyroid function leads to abnormality in thyroid hormones level. The current study hasbeen designed to find the relationship between retinol-binding protein-4 and progranulin in the serum of Iraqi women withhypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, also, to study whether these patients are exposed to a risk of developing diabetes mellitus, and PGRN may be a biomarker in detection early stage of diabetes mellitus.Materials and Methods: in this study, serum samples were obtained from 50 Iraqis women patients, [25 patients withhypothyroidism (G2) and 25 patients with hyperthyroidism (G3)] in addition

The incidence and risk factors of hypocalcaemia after thyroid surgery

Background: Hypocalcaemia is a well-recognized complication of thyroid surgery. It is the most often transient event that occurs after extensive thyroid resection that may require calcium and/or vitamin D supplements to alleviate or prevent the symptoms.
Objective: of this study is to determine the incidence of hypocalcaemia after thyroid surgery and find out the risk factors involved regarding the patient age, gender, and muscular build, clinical diagnosis, the extent of surgery, ligation of the inferior thyroid artery, pathology report and the experience of the surgeon.
Patients and methods: This prospective study was carried out on 100 patients who underwent thyroid surgery for
