Abstract

There is no doubt that there is close relation between the literature and the art since long time as the art in general and painting in particular is the preferred  means  for the French writers and poets to express their thoughts and feelings. We must not forget that many of the artists have been inspired by literary texts.

Julien Gracq is one of the most important writers in the 20th century who made from the paintings an important means in his novelist writings to express what is going on from the events in the story through and artist’s brush as it is in the novel (Le Rivage des Syrtes). The reader can understand the events of the novel through a painting at the room of the hero’s girlfriend. When the writer feels that the words can’t express his thoughts, he starts using this kind of art thus we can find this art fills the pages and even his novels were attributed to one of the famous painters.

The Quest for an Ideal Beauty in Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye

In The Bluest Eye (1970), the American-African writer, Toni Morrison explores how
Western standards of ideal beauty are created and propagated with and among the black
community. The novel not only portrays the lives of those whose dark skinned and Negroid
features blight their lives; it also shows how the standard of white beauty, when imposed on
black youth, can drastically damage one’s self-love and esteem which usually occurs when
beauty goes unrecognized. Morrison in this novel focuses on the damage that the black
women characters suffer through the construction of femininity in a racialised society where
whiteness is used as a standard of beauty.

The comparative method in Maupassant’s (A woman’s Life): Le système comparatif dans Une vie de Maupassant

The comparative method plays a major role in Maupassant’s novel (A woman’s Life). This is due to a good theme choice and smooth writing style characterized by simplicity, spontaneity and brevity.

The author uses the comparative method in the introduction of his novel where he compares the monastery’s closed world to the open world of the countryside of La Normandie, which represents the dream life of the heroine Jeanne.

The present paper is an attempt to answer the question regarding the importance of applying the comparative method in the novel (A Woman’s Life) by Maupassant. The paper stresses the fact that the novelist employs the comparative method in his book for certain features .One of these features is the
