In this study three inorganic nano additives, namely; CaCO3, Al2O3 and SiO2 were used to prepare nanocomposites of unsaturated polyester in order to modify their mechanical properties, i.e. tensile strength, elongation, impact and hardness. The results indicated that all the three additives were effective to improve the mechanical properties up to 4% by weight. The effectiveness of them follows the order : CaCO3 > Al2O3 > SiO2 This is due to their particle size in which CaCO3 (13nm), Al2O3 (20-30nm) and SiO2 (15-20nm).

In this study, the effect of ceramic coating on the performance and gases emission on diesel engine was investigated. A four-stroke, direct injected, single cylinder, diesel engine was tested at constant speed and at different load conditions without coating. Then, the inlet and exhaust valves faces were coated by about 500µm with ceramic materials. Ceramic layers were made of YttriaStabilized Zirconia (YSZ), and NiCrAl as a bond coat. The formation and structural investigation of three new Mannich bases are reported. The synthesis of these compounds was accomplished via a multicomponent one-pot reaction using CaCl2 as a catalyst. The reaction of the benzaldehyde, m-bromoaniline and cyclohexanone or 4-methylcyclohexanone resulted in the formation of L1 and L3, respectively. The synthesis of L2 was achieved by mixing benzaldehyde, o-bromoaniline and cyclohexanone. The isolated compounds were characterised using a range of analytical and spectroscopic techniques.
