The effect of addition of untreated and oxygen plasma treated polypropylene fibers on some properties of heat cured acrylic resin

Background: The polymethyl methacrylate is the most reliable material for the construction of complete and partial dentures, despite satisfying esthetic demand itsuffered from having unsatisfactory properties like impact strength and transverse strength. This study was designed to improve the impact strength and transverse strength of heat cure acrylic resin by adding untreated and oxygen plasma treated polypropylene fibers and investigate the effect of this additive on some properties of acrylic resin materials. Materials and methods: Untreated and oxygen plasma treated polypropylene fibers was added to PMMA powder by weight 2.5 %. Specimens were constructed and divided into 5 groups according to the using tests; each group was subdivided in to 3 subgroups. The tests conducted were impact strength, transverse strength, surface hardness, surface roughness, water sorption and solubility. Data were analyzed by one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and least significant differences (LSD). Results: After incorporation of untreated and oxygen plasma treated polypropylene fibers there was a highly significant increase in impact strength and surface hardness; while there was a non significant difference in transverse strength. Also the value of water sorption increase significantly but with the limit of ADA specification. Conclusion:Within the limit of this study it can be concluded that the reinforcement with polypropylene fibers effective method to increase fracture resistance of denture base; while reinforcement with oxygen plasma treated polypropylene fibers further increase fracture resistance.

Impact of Aluminum Oxide Content on the Structural and Optical Properties of ZnO: AlO Thin Films

AlO-doped ZnO nanocrystalline thin films from with nano crystallite size in the range (19-15 nm) were fabricated by pulsed laser deposition technique. The reduction of crystallite size by increasing of doping ratio shift the bandgap to IR region the optical band gap decreases in a consistent manner, from 3.21to 2.1 eV by increasing AlO doping ratio from 0 to 7wt% but then returns to grow up to 3.21 eV by a further increase the doping ratio. Effect of Preservatives Upon Sensory Properties of Laboratory Biscuit During Storage

The study was conducted to detect the effect of addition of 0.03, 0.06 and0.10% potassium sorbate and 0.10, 0.15, 0.20 and 0.30% sodium propionate upon the sensory properties of laboratory made biscuit. The statistical analysis of the results revealed no significant differences (P<0.05) between the propionate treatment (A,B,C,D) and between the sorbate treatment (E,F,G) and the control (H) in most sensory properties of biscuit prior to storage. The two methods were used for calculation, zone method, and an integral method. Recovery of pure Hesperidin from Iraqi Sweet Oranges Peel and study the effect in some bacteria

Citrus fruit contain variety of flavonoids such as Hesperidin (the principal flavonoid in oranges and grapefruit). Hesperidin is found in high concentration in fruit peel of oranges and in substantially lower concentration in juice of these fruits. Hesperidin was extracted from oranges peel by treating the peels with calcium hydroxide. HPLC technique was used to determine hesperidin. Hesperidin was saperated and purified in a purity of about 90.1-95.7% and yield about 1.5 %w/w from oranges peel dry powder.
