Utilization of Edge Information in Handwritten Numerals Recognition

The recognition of handwritten numerals has many applications in automatic identification and cognition. This research contains three experimented scenarios to recognize the handwritten English (i.e. Arabic) numerals. In the first scenario the bilinear interpolation of the image is used, while in the second scenario and after the bilinear interpolation is being applied, the Sobel operators are applied on the resulted interpolated image. In the third scenario which represents the last one, the effect of normalization of image dimensions is tested. 550 images of handwritten numerals were tested. Three types of tests were conducted for each scenario namely: trained-set test, not-trained-set test and comprehensive-set test. Depending on the results obtained from the comprehensive-set test, the best scenario is the second scenario of bilinear interpolation followed by Sobel operators which leads to excellent success rate reaches to 97.63%.

Dextran Production From Locally Isolated Bacteria (Leuconostoc mesenteroides) And Its Utilization In Some Food Application: Dextran Production From Locally Isolated Bacteria (Leuconostoc mesenteroides) And Its Utilization In Some Food Application

Leuconostoc bacteria was isolated from local pickled cabbage (Brassica oleracea capitata) and identified as Leuconostoc mesenteroides by morphology, biochemical and physiological. The local isolated L. mesenteroides bacteria under the optimal conditions of dextran production showed that, the highly production of dextran was 7.7g achieved by using a modified natural media comprised of 100ml whey, 10g refined sugar, 0.5g heated yeast extract, 0.01g CaCl2, 0.001g MgSO4, 0.001g MnCl2 and 0.001g NaCl at pH 6 and 25̊C for 24 hr of fermentation and by using 1ᵡ106 cell/ml as initial inoculums volume. Some applications in food technology (Ice cream, Loaf, Ketchup and Beef preservation) have been performed with processed dextran. The result

Utilization of magnetic water in cementitious adhesive for near-surface mounted CFRP strengthening system

Cement-based adhesive (CBA) is used as a bonding agent in Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) applications as an alternative to epoxy-based adhesive due to the drawbacks of the epoxy system under severe service conditions which negatively affect the bond between the CFRP and strengthened elements. This paper reports the results of, an investigation carried out to develop two types of CBA using magnetized water (MW) for mixing and curing. Two magnetic devices (MD-I and MD-II), with different magnetic field strengths (9000 and 6000 Gauss) respectively, were employed for water magnetization. Different water flows with different water circulation times in the magnetizer were used for each device. Compressive and splitting tensile strength te

Human Action Recognition Based on Bag-of-Words

Human action recognition has gained popularity because of its wide applicability, such as in patient monitoring systems, surveillance systems, and a wide diversity of systems that contain interactions between people and electrical devices, including human computer interfaces. The proposed method includes sequential stages of object segmentation, feature extraction, action detection and then action recognition. Effective results of human actions using different features of unconstrained videos was a challenging task due to camera motion, cluttered background, occlusions, complexity of human movements, and variety of same actions performed by distinct subjects. Thus, the proposed method overcomes such problems by using the fusion of featur

A MODULE FOR ENHANCING RECOGNITION SYSTEM FOR QR CODE SCANNED IMAGE

A QR code is a type of barcode that can hold more information than the familiar kind scanned at checkouts around the world. The “QR” stands for “Quick Response”, a reference to the speed at which the large amounts of information they contain can be decoded by scanners. They are being widely used for advertising campaigns, linking to company websites, contest sign-up pages and online menus. In this paper, we propose an efficient module to extract QR code from background and solve problem of rotation in case of inaccurate image taken from mobile camera.

Cryptography with Dynamic DNA Depending on Edge Detection

Making the data secure is more and more concerned in the communication era. This research is an attempt to make a more secured information message by using both encryption and steganography. The encryption phase is done with dynamic DNA complementary rules while DNA addition rules are done with secret key where both are based on the canny edge detection point of the cover image. The hiding phase is done after dividing the cover image into 8 blocks, the blocks that are used for hiding selected in reverse order exception the edge points. The experiments result shows that the method is reliable with high value in PSNR

An edge detection algorithm matching visual contour perception

For several applications, it is very important to have an edge detection technique matching human visual contour perception and less sensitive to noise. The edge detection algorithm describes in this paper based on the results obtained by Maximum a posteriori (MAP) and Maximum Entropy (ME) deblurring algorithms. The technique makes a trade-off between sharpening and smoothing the noisy image. One of the advantages of the described algorithm is less sensitive to noise than that given by Marr and Geuen techniques that considered to be the best edge detection algorithms in terms of matching human visual contour perception.

Edge detection for Diabetic Retinopathy using fuzzy logic

Diabetic retinopathy is an eye disease, because of pressure in eye nerve fiber. It is a major cause of blindness in middle as well as older age groups; therefore it is essential to diagnose it earlier. Some of the challenges are in the diagnosis of the disease is detection edges of the image, may be some important edges are missed outcome the noise around the corners.
Wherefore, in order to reduce these effects in this paper, we proposed a new technique for edge detection using traditional operators in combination with fuzzy logic based on fuzzy inference system. The results show that the proposed fuzzy edge detection technique better than of traditional techniques, where vascular are markedly detected over the original.
