Depositional Environment and Microfacies Analysis of Yamama Formation in North Rumaila Oil Field, South Iraq
...Show More Authors

Yamama Formation is an important sequence in southern Iraq. Petrographic analysis was used to determine and analyze the microfacies and pore types. The diagenetic processes and the impacts on the petrophysical properties of the rocks were also identified. The petrographic identification was based on data of 250 thin sections of cutting and core samples from four wells that were supplied by the Iraqi Oil Exploration Company (O.E.C). The present study focuses on the depositional environment and the microfacies analysis of Yamama Formation. The results revealed several types of microfacies, including  peloidal wackestone-packstone, algal wackestone-packstone, bioclastic wackestone-packstone, foraminiferal wackestone, bioclastic wackestone, and  mudstone. The latter was divided into two submicrofacies, namely argillaceous lime mudstone and sparse fossiliferous lime mudstone. The study showed that Yamama Formation was deposited through various settings within the carbonate platform; these comprise inner ramp, middle ramp, and outer ramp settings. The inner and middle ramp settings, characterized at the top and middle Formation, have high effective porosity and low clay volume, due to dominant packstone.

Evaluation of Petrophysical Properties Using Well Logs of Yamama Formation in Abu Amood Oil Field, Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

The petrophysical analysis is very important to understand the factors controlling the reservoir quality and production wells. In the current study, the petrophysical evaluation was accomplished to hydrocarbon assessment based on well log data of four wells of Early Cretaceous carbonate reservoir Yamama Formation in Abu-Amood oil field in the southern part of Iraq. The available well logs such as sonic, density, neutron, gamma ray, SP, and resistivity logs for wells AAm-1, AAm-2, AAm-3, and AAm-5 were used to delineate the reservoir characteristics of the Yamama Formation. Lithologic and mineralogic studies were performed using porosity logs combination cross plots such as density vs. neutron cross plot and M-N mineralogy plot. Thes

Geological Model for Jeribe/Euphrates Formation, Tertiary Reservoir in Qaiyarah Oil Field, North of Iraq
...Show More Authors

Visualization of subsurface geology is mainly considered as the framework of the required structure to provide distribution of petrophysical properties. The geological model helps to understand the behavior of the fluid flow in the porous media that is affected by heterogeneity of the reservoir and helps in calculating the initial oil in place as well as selecting accurate new well location. In this study, a geological model is built for Qaiyarah field, tertiary reservoir, relying on well data from 48 wells, including the location of wells, formation tops and contour map. The structural model is constructed for the tertiary reservoir, which is an asymmetrical anticline consisting of two domes separated by a saddle. It is found that

3-D Seismic Interpretation of Hartha Formation at Nasiriyah Oil Field, South Iraq
...Show More Authors

This study deal with structural and stratigraphic analysis of the seismic reflection data for Hartha Formation at Nasiriyah field, the area of seismic data is about (1237) km2. Nasiriyah oil field is located in Dhi Qar Governorate, southern Iraq, and the oil field is located to the East of Euphrates River of about (38) km northwest of Nasiriyah city. which includes twenty-four (24) wells. In some wells there are oil evidences in Hartha Formation at Nasiriyah oil field, for this reason, Hartha Formation is studied.
Two reflectors are picked (top and bottom Hartha) they are defined by using synthetic seismograms in time domain for wells (Ns-1, and 3). Time and depth of Hartha Formation are drawn using velocity data of reflectors. The st

Permeability estimation of Yamama formation in a Southern Iraqi oil field, case study
...Show More Authors

Permeability is one of the essential petrophysical properties of rocks, reflecting the rock's ability to pass fluids. It is considered the basis for building any model to predict well deliverability. Yamama formation carbonate rocks are distinguished by sedimentary cycles that separate formation into reservoir units and insulating layers, a very complex porous system caused by secondary porosity due to substitute and dissolution processes. Those factors create permeability variables and vary significantly. Three ways used for permeability calculation, the firstly was the classical method, which only related the permeability to the porosity, resulting in a weak relationship. Secondly, the flow zone indicator (FZI) was divided reservoir into

3D Geological Modeling for Yamama Reservoir in Subba, Luhias and Ratawi Oil Fields, South of Iraq
...Show More Authors

3D geological model for each reservoir unit comprising the Yamama Formation revealed to that the formation is composed of alternating reservoirs and barriers. In Subba and Luhais fields the formation began with barrier YB-1 and four more barriers (YB-2, YB-3, YB-4, YB-5), separated five reservoirs (YR-A, YR-B, YR-C, YR-D, YR-E) ranging in thickness from 70 to 80 m for each of them deposited by five sedimentary cycles. In the Ratawi field the formation was divided into three reservoir units (YR-A, YR-B, and YR-C) separated by two barrier units (YB-2 and YB-3), the first cycle is missing in Ratawi field.

The study involves 1 well in Luhais field (Lu-12), 3 wells in Subba field (Su-7, Su-8, and Su-9), and 5 wells in Ratawi fi

Facies Analysis and Depositional Environments of the Ubaid Formation, Western Iraq
...Show More Authors

The Early Jurassic (Liassic) sequence crops out in numerous anticlines of the high folded zone of north and north-east Iraq and in the Rutba subzone (including Ubaid Formation) in west Iraq. The present study deals with siliciclastic / carbonate rocks of the 58 m-thick Ubaid Formation at Zor Hauran valley in south western Iraq. The formation consists of two parts; the lower part is composed of pebbly coarse sandstone and greenish to yellowish soft marl alternated with marly dolostone, while the upper part is characterized by light brown, well bedded dolostone, with stromatolite structure in some locations. Oval, light to dark brown nodules of chert are also present.

Yamama Reservoir Characterization in the West Qurna Oil Field, Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

Yamama Formation (Valanginian-Early Hauterivian) is one of the most important oil production reservoirs in southern Mesopotamian Zone. The Yamama Formation in south Iraq comprises outer shelf argillaceous limestones and oolitic, pelloidal, pelletal and pseudo-oolitic shoal limestones. The best oil prospects are within the oolite shoals. Yamama Formation is divided into seven zones: Upper Yamama, Reservoir Units YR-A & YR-B separated by YB-1, and YR-B Lower & two Tight zones: low (porosity, permeability and oil saturation) with variable amounts of bitumen. These reservoir units are thought to be at least partially isolated from each other.
