Evaluation of groundwater recharge in arid and semiarid regions (case study of Dibdiba formation in Karballa-Najaf plateau)

The process of recharge the groundwater is the key factors that need to be addressed as is the foundation upon which the process of groundwater use and management properly, especially in arid and semi-arid, like Iraq, so the values of groundwater recharge calculated vary depending on the method used in the calculation and the more factors calculated in the process of calculating the values of groundwater recharge increased margin of error in these values. In this study were selected four methods to calculate the value of recharge for groundwater (fluctuating water table, water balance of the basin, numerical modeling, and balance of chloride ion mass in unsaturated zone) was applied in the Plateau area of Karbala (Dibdiba formation) has given these methods produce different results to the values of groundwater recharge. has given way balance chloride ion mass in the unsaturated zone give a results are closer to reality through compering with the volume of water that inventories renewed.

Permeability estimation of Yamama formation in a Southern Iraqi oil field, case study

Permeability is one of the essential petrophysical properties of rocks, reflecting the rock's ability to pass fluids. It is considered the basis for building any model to predict well deliverability. Yamama formation carbonate rocks are distinguished by sedimentary cycles that separate formation into reservoir units and insulating layers, a very complex porous system caused by secondary porosity due to substitute and dissolution processes. Those factors create permeability variables and vary significantly. Three ways used for permeability calculation, the firstly was the classical method, which only related the permeability to the porosity, resulting in a weak relationship. Secondly, the flow zone indicator (FZI) was divided reservoir into

Empowerment and its impact on affordable housing sustainable planning : A case study of Al-Sultan housing complex in Al-Najaf

The past decades of the last century and until now have witnessed many crises in the housing sector, and these crises were the result of many problems that led to a weak quality and quantity of housing stock, especially for lowincome people, and Goal 11 of the Sustainable Development Goals states, "Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, and capable of enduring and being sustainable, we have prepared this research that attempts to answer the following question: Is the current empowerment in the housing sector real and efficient support for people with limited income? The research assumes that empowerment in the housing sector has an important and effective role in reducing housing problems, the research aims to reach the most imp

Simulation Model of Groundwater within Umm-Er Radhuma Formation in Anbar Province / Western Iraq

The study area is located in the south-eastern part of AL- Anbar province, between latitudes (31˚02ˉ00˭ -33˚03ˉ00˭) north and longitudes (40˚02ˉ00˭ -43˚04ˉ00˭) to the east. The research studied predictive mathematical Model of groundwater within Umm-Er Radhuma Formation and by (44) wells distributed randomly within the boundaries of the study area, all of them fall within the unconfined aquifer. Through the operating of wells on the time of (30) day and taking the operating results of each (5) days, results showed that the drawdown in groundwater levels values ranged from (13) cm after running the model for a period of 5 days and (120) cm after running Model for thirty days. And the drawdown values are concentrated near wells

Groundwater Quality Evaluation in the Upper Part of the Mandali Basin

Mandali Basin is located between latitudes (33◦ 39 '00 "- 33◦ 54' 55") to the north and longitudes (45◦ 11 '00 "- 45◦ 40' 00") to the east, eastern Diyala province. The research study attributes hydrochemical properties groundwater upper part of the Mandali basin for 20 wells through the data from the analysis of the hydrological information bank of the General Directorate for drilling water wells 2007, hydrochemical study of the water tube wells for two seasons showed water surplus season (February) and season the water deficit (August) It's water colorless, odorless dominated by sulfate ion and sodium, and through hydrochemical formula and the type of water was found that most of the water area of study is the sodium sulfate ty

Hydrochemical Evaluation and Utilization of Groundwater in Khanaqin Area, Diyala Governorate - East of Iraq

The groundwater evaluation has been carried out in Khanaqin area in Diyala governorate to the east of Iraq. The analyzed hydrochemical parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids as well as cations and anions are used to describe groundwater quality and its suitability for different purposes. The study area covers (1920) km2. According to hydrogeological investigation (43) water points were inventoried and water levels in wells were measured. (34) Wells were sampled during 2013-2014 during water surplus and water deficit periods. The studied area is divided groundwater aquifers into two main units, the unconfined and confined aquifers. The values of pH, electrical conductivity (EC) and total dissolve

BIODIVERSITY STUDY OF ZOOPLANKTON IN SELECTED BAHR Al-NAJAF DEPRESSION, NAJAF GOVERNORATE, IRAQ

The current study aims to assess zooplankton diversity in Bahr Al-Najaf depression using diversity index, specimens were collected from five sites at Bahr Al-Najaf depression, Iraq during April 2017 to March 2018.

Forty-eight taxa of zooplankton were identified including 26 taxa to Copepoda, 17 taxa belonged to Rotifers and 5 taxa to Cladocera: Copepoda was the most dominant group (54.2%); Rotifera comprised (35.4%); Cladocera comprised (10.4%).

Relative abundance index of zooplankton showed Copepodite and nauplii of Harpacticoid, Hexarthra mira, Daphnia sp., Harpacticoid sp., and Copepodite and nauplii of Cyclops were more abundant. According to the constancy index

The Occurrences and Formation of Ladderback Ripples on Barchans Dunes of Najaf Dunes Field, Iraq, in Aeolian Environments

This paper concerns the study of ripples that occur on the windward of Barchan dunes from the dunes field of Najaf governorate, Iraq. These dunes consist mainly of sand sediments with variable sizes, including medium, fine, and very fine sands. Quartz represents the major light mineral in the Najaf Dunes sand. The prevailing wind direction in the study area is NW-SE. The major ripple crest series of every pattern are oriented perpendicular to the NW-SE wind direction, whereas imbricated ripple groups within the troughs of the preexisting ripples are created by the WSW-ENE wind trend. These ripples tend to be formed by shortened ripples that occupy the troughs of the prolonged series. All crests of the ladderback ripples are oriented at r

Hydrochemical Evaluation of Groundwater from Selected Wells in Al Muthana Governorate, Southern Iraq

The study area is part of the city of Samawa in Al Muthanna Governorate in southern Iraq. The study  area is located to the west of Samawa city bounded by the north latitudes 31⁰11'-31o42' and east longitudes 44o58'- 45⁰16'and its groundwater resources are developed for supply and irrigation purposes. In order to evaluate the quality of groundwater in the study area, twenty three groundwater samples were collected and analyzed for physical and chemical parameters. Hydrochemical analysis showed that the groundwater of the study area is excessively mineralized  and very hard. The increase in flow length of groundwater in the study area caused a change in water
