This study aimed to evaluate the health effects of exposure to particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) and gaseous pollutants, including carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and sulfur dioxide (SO2), on the hematological parameters of workers exposed to charcoal grilling emissions in restaurants. Air pollutant concentrations were measured in six barbecue restaurants located in Al-Rusafa District, Baghdad, during December 2024 and January 2025. Nine measurements were recorded monthly during morning and evening peak cooking periods. Blood samples were collected from two groups: grilling workers exposed directly to charcoal smoke (n = 30) and customers from dining areas as the control group (n = 30). Hematological analyses included white blood cells (WBC), red blood cells (RBC), hemoglobin (HGB), hematocrit (HCT), platelets (PLT), and other blood indices. Statistical analyses were performed using independent t-tests and stepwise multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that pollutant concentrations were consistently higher in grilling areas than in dining areas, especially during evening hours, due to intensive cooking activity and insufficient ventilation. PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations frequently exceeded World Health Organization (WHO) permissible limits in grilling areas, while CO, NO2, and SO2 also reached elevated levels. Significant increases (p ≤ 0.05) were observed in WBC, RBC, HGB, HCT, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), and PLT among exposed workers compared with the control group. Stepwise regression analysis demonstrated that CO2 was positively associated with WBC, HGB, RBC, MCV, and PLT, whereas PM10 and PM2.5 showed negative associations with several hematological parameters after adjustment for co-pollutants. These findings suggest that chronic exposure to indoor air pollutants generated from charcoal grilling may induce systemic inflammation, oxidative stress, and physiological adaptation to hypoxic conditions among restaurant workers.
Heuristic approaches are traditionally applied to find the optimal size and optimal location of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices in power systems. Genetic Algorithm (GA) technique has been applied to solve power engineering optimization problems giving better results than classical methods. This paper shows the application of GA for optimal sizing and allocation of a Static Compensator (STATCOM) in a power system. STATCOM devices used to increase transmission systems capacity and enhance voltage stability by regulate the voltages at its terminal by controlling the amount of reactive power injected into or absorbed from the power system. IEEE 5-bus standard system is used as an example to illustrate the te

Amputee patients’ quality of life can be improved if they have natural control over their prosthetic hands. Among the biological signals, most commonly used to predict upper limb motor intentions, surface electromyography (sEMG), and axial acceleration sensor signals are essential components of shoulder-level upper limb prosthetic hand control systems. In this work, a pattern recognition system is proposed to create a plan for categorizing high-level upper limb prostheses in seven various types of shoulder girdle motions. Thus, combining seven feature groups, w

It is the story’s similarity to the traditional Euro-centric fairy tale of “Little Red Riding Hood”. As an author, writing at the end of the ninetieth century, a time that witnessed the demise of the Romantic movement in America and the beginning of the age of Realism, Jewett did not romanticize her characters, despite the idyllic landscape in which “A White Heron” is set. Her story can be analyzed as a text that aims at disseminating ecological awareness among her young readers. This study focuses on Jewett

Due to bone's ability to regenerate, the vast majority of bone abnormalities can be restored intuitively under the right physiological conditions. The goal of this study is to examine the immunohistochemistry of bone sialoprotein in order to determine the effect of local application of bone sialoprotein on the healing of a rat tibia generated bone defect. Materials and Methods: In this experiment, 48 albino male rats weighing 300-400 grams and aged 6-8 months will be employed under controlled temperature, drinking, and food consumption settings. Roller Compacted Concrete is typically used for heavy-duty and specialist constructions, such as hydraulic structures and pavements, because of its coarse surface. The main difference between RCC and conventional concrete mixtures is that RCC has a more significant proportion of fine aggregates that allow compaction and tight packing. In recent years, it has been estimated that several million tons of waste demolished material (WDM) produced each year are directed to landfills worldwide without being recycled for disposal. This review aimed to study the literature about creating a Roller-Comp

Recent studies have shown the possibility of using polyphenol oxidase in catalytic biological treatment due to its ability to oxidize a large number of dyes and pollutants in wastewater and the flexibility to work in wide ranges of temperature, pH and salinity. It is easy availability as well as the low economic cost resulting from its use in biological treatments, this enzyme polyphenol oxidase was used. The findings in this study showed that the extraction of polyphenol oxidase (PPO) from potato peel was homogenized with potassium phosphate buffer (0.1 M, pH 7) at a ratio of 1:10 (weight: volume) for two min. The randomness of the sequence generated is achieved by building an optical setup based on a weak laser source, beam splitters and single-photon avalanche photodiodes operating in Geiger mode. The random string obtained from the optical setup is used to generate the quadrature phase shift keying signal constellation required for phase coding in quantum key distribution system based on BB84 protocol with a bit rate of 2GHz/s.
