Ammonia Removal in Free-Surface Constructed Wetlands Employing Synthetic Floating Islands: Employing synthetic floating islands
...Show More Authors

Free water surface constructed wetlands (FSCWs) can be used to complement conventional waste water treatment but removal efficiencies are often limited by a high ratio of water volume to biofilm surface area (i.e. high water depth). Floating treatment wetlands (FTWs) consist of floating matrices which can enhance the surface area available for the development of fixed microbial biofilms and provide a platform for plant growth (which can remove pollutants by uptake).  In this study the potential of FTWs for ammoniacal nitrogen (AN) removal was evaluated using experimental mesocosms operated under steady-state flow conditions with ten different treatments (two water depths, two levels of FTW mat coverage, two different plant densities and a control, all replicated three times). A simple model was constructed as a framework for understanding N dynamics in each treatment.  The model was calibrated using data obtained from one treatment and validated independently for the other treatments. Specifically, we hypothesized that the nitrification and volatilization rate constants are inversely proportional to water depth and proportional to mat surface area. This allowed the relative magnitude of different removal mechanisms to be estimated.  The model was able to predict steady-state concentrations of AN and total oxidized nitrogen (TON) across the different treatments well (values for correlation in the regression between measured and predicted steady-state concentrations and RMSE were 0.88 and 0.40 mg N L-1 for AN, and 0.63 and 1.75 mg N L-1 for TON).  The results confirm that nitrification is the principal AN removal process, with maximum removal occurring in shallow systems with high matrix cover (i.e. a high ratio of biofilm surface area to water volume). Plant uptake was a relatively minor loss process compared to nitrification. Integrated experimental and model-based approach was found to be a useful tool to improve mechanistic understanding AN dynamics in FSCWs and system performance.

It is known that the distinguished scholar and writers in any kind of science leave an important impact on those who come after them, so they are an indispensable source in that science that draws from them who is later in time than them, and this is what we have seen in this research; The scholar Muhammad bin Shuraih al-Ra’ini (d.476 AH) and his book          (Al-Kafi in the Seven Readings) were admired by everyone who wrote about the readings after him. The great scholars of the readings, such as Ibn al-Bathish (d. 540 AH), Ibn al-Jazari (d. 833 AH), and Ibn al-Banna’ did not dispense with him. (d.1117 AH) in terms of reading, isnad, and the way of narration, their books were full of men

This study took place during the first semester 2006-2007 at the same time the Jordanian universities were getting ready to receive the American team sent by QAA to check out the defects in the educational system of these universities, the researchers concentrated on the practical study more the than the theoretical study, the theoretical study covered the understanding of quality & quality in education  as well as the authorities responsible for the regulations & quality standards such as QAA ,JMOHE, Al-Hussein Fund For Excellence. The main problem which faced the Jordanian private universities was the conflict in objectives between profitability & qualitative output which was because of lack of long tem strategic plann

The research aims to show the impact of the new modern malls on urban adjacent land uses; it handled concise study of the old markets, contemporary shopping malls, and the standards and regulations for commercial use. Sample study has been taken from new allocated malls in the city of Baghdad. The results of the sample analysis, and statistical analysis has proven hypothesis; that the locating of new malls impacted physical, social, and economic on urban adjacent, especially the exotic on urban fabric. It also turned out that the shopping demand from these malls is inelastic, which gives an opportunity to the planner and the decision-maker, to locate the modern new malls where spatial appropriate in the city are available.
