Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome is among the leading causes of fertility-related problems and menstrual irregularities in women of reproductive age. The granulosa cells of the developing pre-antral and antral follicles produce inhibin B, which triggers chemical responses in the ovaries. Inhibin B is most often observed in the follicular phase when levels peak early and then decline over time Objectives: This study was designed to investigate the role of serum inhibin B and the Luteinizing Hormone / Follicle Stimulating Hormone ratio in differentiation between the different phenotypes of polycystic ovary syndrome as well as to define the predominant PCOS phenotype. Methods: This cross-sectional research was conducted in the Department of Biochemistry, College of Medicine, University of Baghdad from November 2023 to March 2024. The study included 111 women, ranging in age from 18-40 years. Among these, 91 women were diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) based on the 2003 Criteria for the Rotterdam Consensus, and the other 20 were healthy women. Investigations included serum levels of inhibin B using the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay technique, follicle Stimulating Hormone, luteinizing Hormone and prolactin using Tosoh AIA-2000 Automated Immunoassay, to calculate the LH/FSH ratio. Results: phenotype A was observed to be the predominant PCOS phenotype, while phenotype B was the rare form. The mean ±SEM values of the inhibin B levels for the phenotypes B (26.07±0.23 pg/ml, p=<0.001), C (25.96±1.68 pg/ml, p=<0.0001), and D (37.51±2.31 pg/ml, p=<0.0001), respectively, were significantly lower than those of the control women (57.68±2.07 pg/ml). However, the mean ±SEM value of inhibin B of phenotype A (50.46±7.12 pg/ml) was comparable to that of controls. The mean value of the LH levels of phenotype A (7.12±0.76 µIU/ml) showed significantly higher numbers than those of the control women (4.59±0.38 µIU/ml, p=0.03). Furthermore, the mean values of the LH/FSH ratio were significantly elevated in phenotypes A (p=0.001) and B (p=0.04) as compared to the controls. Conclusion: Serum Inhibin B level and LH/FSH ratio can be used to distinguish between the different phenotypes of PCOS.
Background and objective: Viral Hepatitis Type B&C is serious public health challenge throughout the world.Hepatitis B and C viruses still remain to be the major causes of chronic hepatitis. It is estimated that around 350-400 million people in the world are chronic carriers of HBV, which represents approximately 7% of the total populationwhereas infection with HCV is found in approximately 3% of the world population, which represents 160 million people. Hepatitis B infection has a wide range of seroprevalence in the Mediterranean countries ranging from intermediate (=>2% ) to high prevalence ( =>7%). World Health Organization estimated a prevalence rate for HCV infection of about 4.6% in Eastern Mediterranean in 1999. During the eightieths

The concept of -closedness, a kind of covering property for topological spaces, has already been studied with meticulous care from different angles and via different approaches. In this paper, we continue the said investigation in terms of a different concept viz. grills. The deliberations in the article include certain characterizations and a few necessary conditions for the -closedness of a space, the latter conditions are also shown to be equivalent to -closedness in a - almost regular space. All these and the associated discussions and results are done with grills as the prime supporting tool.
Due to the increasing number of people with in Iraq, it has become necessary to treat seriously this problem, which was not considered significantly to the best of researcher knowledge. Thus, the current research aims to construct a scale to measure the physical down syndromes, which distinguish them from others. It consisted of (39) items. The researcher has presented some related literature that addressed the current problem
Background: Guillain Barré syndrome is an acute inflammatory demyelinating disease of the peripheral nerves. Its synonyms are: acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy, idiopathic polyneuritis, acute infective polyneuropathy and post infections polyneuritis. Objectives: We attempt to study the clinical presentations and complications in patients with GBS who were admitted to children welfare Teaching Hospital and to compare the results with the other studies.Type of the study: A retrospective study. Methods: A study done on seventy patients with GBS who were admitted to children Welfare Teaching Hospital in Medical City-Baghdad from different parts of Iraq between January 2002-December 2006.Results: Forty (57.14%) of them

Forty patients with chronic renal failure (20 male, 20 female) were enrolled in this study in addition to forty healthy individual as control gro

Retinal dystrophy and cystic kidneys may also be associated with this clinical syndrome. The importance of recognizing JS is related to the outcome and its potential complications. This syndrome is difficult to diagnose clinically because of its variable phenotype. Its neuroimaging hallmarks include the characteristic molar tooth sign and bat wing-shaped fourth ventricle
Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the correlation between levels of certain seminal biochemical parameters and serum reproductive hormones, on the one hand, and sperm function tests, on the other hand, in asthenospermic patients. Patients and Methods: Sixty asthenospermic patients and twenty fertile men as a control group were included in this study. Semen samples were collected to perform seminal fluid analysis. Total protein, cholesterol, calcium, creatine kinase, and fructose were measured in the seminal plasma. Blood samples were collected for hormonal assay of serum reproductive hormones: testosterone, prolactin, luteinizing hormone, and follicle-stimulating hormone. Results: The results revealed a significant positive correla
