This study was designed to evaluate the effect of anesthesia on thyroid hormones (T3, T4, rT3), thyrotropin(TSH), and cortisol levels in patients undergoing major urological surgery. The study included fifty patients scheduled for elective major urological surgery where 70% of the patients underwent general anesthesia, while30% underwent regional anesthesia. All patients were in stable control general conditions. The study showed that the thyroid hormones, thyrotropin and cortisol levels were affected with general anesthesia more than regional.    In the present work, radium (²²⁶Ra), thorium (²³²Th), potassium (⁴⁰ K), and cesium (¹³⁷Cs) (Bq/kg) was measured for 24 soil samples of some districts of Al-Doura city in Baghdad governorate. The gamma spectrometry method with NaI (Tl) detector was used for radiometric measurements. The present study was aimed to screen the ability of local isolates of Bacillus spp. (56 isolates) for nattokinase production using solid state fermentation, then optimize the nutritional conditions for enzyme production. The isolates were subjected to the primary and secondary screening process to select the Bacillus isolate which give the highest production of enzyme. It was found that Bacillus sp. B24 had the highest productivity of the enzyme (25.58U/mg protein).
