Fourier Transform Coding-based Techniques for Lossless Iris Image Compression

Today, the use of iris recognition is expanding globally as the most accurate and reliable biometric feature in terms of uniqueness and robustness. The motivation for the reduction or compression of the large databases of iris images becomes an urgent requirement. In general, image compression is the process to remove the insignificant or redundant information from the image details, that implicitly makes efficient use of redundancy embedded within the image itself. In addition, it may exploit human vision or perception limitations to reduce the imperceptible information.
This paper deals with reducing the size of image, namely reducing the number of bits required in representing the

Classification of Different Shoulder Girdle Motions for Prosthesis Control Using a Time-Domain Feature Extraction Technique

Abstract—The upper limb amputation exerts a significant burden on the amputee, limiting their ability to perform everyday activities, and degrading their quality of life. Amputee patients’ quality of life can be improved if they have natural control over their prosthetic hands. Among the biological signals, most commonly used to predict upper limb motor intentions, surface electromyography (sEMG), and axial acceleration sensor signals are essential components of shoulder-level upper limb prosthetic hand control systems. In this work, a pattern recognition system is proposed to create a plan for categorizing high-level upper limb prostheses in seven various types of shoulder girdle motions. Thus, combining seven feature groups, w

Extraction of Vacant Lands for Baghdad City Using Two Classification Methods of Very High Resolution Satellite Images

The use of remote sensing technologies was gained more attention due to an increasing need to collect data for the environmental changes. Satellite image classification is a relatively recent type of remote sensing uses satellite imagery to indicate many key environment characteristics. This study aims at classifying and extracting vacant lands from high resolution satellite images of Baghdad city by supervised Classification tool in ENVI 5.3 program. The classification accuracy was 15%, which can be regarded as fairly acceptable given the difficulty of differentiating vacant land surfaces from other surfaces such as roof tops of buildings.

Useing the Hierarchical Cluster Analysis and Fuzzy Cluster Analysis Methods for Classification of Some Hospitals in Basra

In general, the importance of cluster analysis is that one can evaluate elements by clustering multiple homogeneous data; the main objective of this analysis is to collect the elements of a single, homogeneous group into different divisions, depending on many variables. This method of analysis is used to reduce data, generate hypotheses and test them, as well as predict and match models. The research aims to evaluate the fuzzy cluster analysis, which is a special case of cluster analysis, as well as to compare the two methods—classical and fuzzy cluster analysis. The research topic has been allocated to the government and private hospitals. The sampling for this research was comprised of 288 patients being treated in 10 hospitals. As t

Undergraduate Research Impact on Students' Retention and Academic Development Based on Their Study Field and the Mentoring Approach

The impact of undergraduate research experiences on students' academic development and retention in STEM fields is significant. Students' success in STEM fields is based on developing strong research and critical thinking skills that make it essential for students to engage in research activities throughout their academic programs. This work evaluates the effectiveness of undergraduate research experiences with respect to its influence on student retention and academic development. The cases presented are based on years of experience implementing undergraduate research programs in various STEM fields at Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU Pueblo) funded by HSI STEM Grants. The study seeks to establish a correlation between students' reten

Analysis of Methods and Techniques Used for Speaker Identification, Recognition, and Verification: A Study on Quarter-Century Research Outcomes

The theories and applications of speaker identification, recognition, and verification are among the well-established fields. Many publications and advances in the relevant products are still emerging. In this paper, research-related publications of the past 25 years (from 1996 to 2020) were studied and analysed. Our main focus was on speaker identification, speaker recognition, and speaker verification. The study was carried out using the Science Direct databases. Several references, such as review articles, research articles, encyclopaedia, book chapters, conference abstracts, and others, were categorized and investigated. Summary of these kinds of literature is presented in this paper, together with statistical analyses

Embedding a Digitized Watermark Upon Colored Image Using Wavelet Transform with Comparative Technique

A special methodology for adding a watermark for colored (RGB) image is formed and adding the wavelet transform as a tool during this paper. The watermark is added into two components. The primary one is by taking the key that contain associate eight range from (0...7) every range in it determines the actual bit position in specific component of canopy image. If that bit is analogous to the bit in watermark, (0) are hold on within the Least Significant Bit (LSB) of the watermarked image; otherwise (1) are hold on. The other is that it will add multiple secret keys victimization shift and rotate operations. The watermark is embedded redundantly over all extracted blocks in image to extend image protection. This embedding is completed with

Robust Blind Watermarking Technique Against Geometric Attacks for Fingerprint Image Using DTCWT-DCT

In this research paper, a new blind and robust fingerprint image watermarking scheme based on a combination of dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT) and discrete cosine transform (DCT) domains is demonstrated. The major concern is to afford a solution in reducing the consequence of geometric attacks. It is due to the fingerprint features that may be impacted by the incorporated watermark, fingerprint rotations, and displacements that result in multiple feature sets. To integrate the bits of the watermark sequence into a differential process, two DCT-transformed sub-vectors are implemented. The initial sub-vectors were obtained by sub-sampling in the host fingerprint image of both real and imaginary parts of the DTCWT wavelet coeffi

Obstacles to the adoption of business commercial books to determine taxable income and ways to address them: An applied research at The General Commission for Taxes

The research aims to shed light on the obstacles that hinder the use of taxpayers' commercial books covered by provisions of the amended commercial book-keeping system No. 2 of 1985 and ways to address these obstacles. On this basis, the main null hypothesis was formulated that there is no statistically significant relationship between the obstacles to the adoption of the commercial books and taxable income.

The research data were collected on the base of three applied case studies of registered taxpayers in the General Commission of Taxes, GCT, together with the use of a questionnaire distributed to a sample of taxpayers ( companies ). The collected data were analyzed, the result  were presented  and the hypothesis was

Compression-based Data Reduction Technique for IoT Sensor Networks

Energy savings are very common in IoT sensor networks because IoT sensor nodes operate with their own limited battery. The data transmission in the IoT sensor nodes is very costly and consume much of the energy while the energy usage for data processing is considerably lower. There are several energy-saving strategies and principles, mainly dedicated to reducing the transmission of data. Therefore, with minimizing data transfers in IoT sensor networks, can conserve a considerable amount of energy. In this research, a Compression-Based Data Reduction (CBDR) technique was suggested which works in the level of IoT sensor nodes. The CBDR includes two stages of compression, a lossy SAX Quantization stage which reduces the dynamic range of the
