Background/Objectives: optimization of the therapeutic efficacy of antidiabetic agents is still a great challenge in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and attention is becoming more and more focused on the use of adjunctive agents that help target the drug action beyond the classic glycemic target. This study examined the effect of co-administration of an Artemisia herba-alba Asso (Asteraceae) aqueous extract on the glucose-lowering effect of dapagliflozin, a sodium–glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. Methods: qualitative phytochemical screening and total phenolic and total flavonoid content were used to characterize the aqueous preparation. Male Wistar albino rats were divided into eight groups (10 rats each): four healthy and four diabetic rats induced with streptozotocin (STZ). Vehicle control, oral administration of an aqueous A. herba-alba preparation (0.39 g/kg twice daily), dapagliflozin (0.143 mg/kg/day), or a combination of both was given for 30 days. At baseline and days 7, 14, 21, and 30, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was measured by nephelometry. Parallel fasting blood glucose (FBG) was monitored. Results: the diabetic animals treated with the combination regimen showed the greatest and most sustained decrease in HbA1c (from 4.42 ± 0.40% at baseline to 3.44 ± 0.17% at day 30; p < 0.001) and the greatest decrease in FBG (from 186.0 to 122.2 mg/dL). A. herba-alba monotherapy had little effect on HbA1c and had minimal effect on FBG (214.9 to 217.6 mg/dL); dapagliflozin monotherapy had a modest effect on HbA1c. The untreated diabetic controls (n = 10) showed a progressive increase in HbA1c from 4.45 ± 0.60% at 72 h post-induction to 11.90 ± 0.99% by day 30 (p < 0.001), consistent with delayed hemoglobin glycation relative to the rise in blood glucose. The repeated-measures ANOVA showed a highly significant interaction between time and treatment (p < 0.001). Conclusions: this study showed that the phytochemically defined aqueous A. herba-alba preparation is a beneficial adjunct to SGLT2 inhibitor therapy, an effect not observed with either treatment alone.
Coagulation - flocculation are basic chemical engineering method in the treatment of metal-bearing industrial wastewater because it removes colloidal particles, some soluble compounds and very fine solid suspensions initially present in the wastewater by destabilization and formation of flocs. This research was conducted to study the feasibility of using natural coagulant such as okra and mallow and chemical coagulant such as alum for removing Cu and increase the removal efficiency and reduce the turbidity of treated water. Fourier transform Infrared (FTIR) was carried out for okra and mallow before and after coagulant to determine their type of functional groups. Carbonyl and hydroxyl functional groups on the surface of

Pollutants in the river contribute to increasing the biological oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (SS), total dissolved solids (TDS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and toxic metals render this water unsuitable for consumption and even pose a significant risk to human health. Over the last few years, water conservation has been the subject of growing awareness and concern throughout the world, so this research focused on review studies of researches that studied the importance of water quality of wastewater treated disposal in water bodies and modern technology to management w

Inlet throttled systems have good performance in addition to their high efficiency compared to traditional valve-controlled systems. The flow in the proposed system is adjusted by a valve that is positioned at the pump inlet with the purpose of reducing the energy loses across the valve. This regulated flow is used then to control the actuator angular velocity. The system was modeled and the open loop stability and performance were studied. In order to improve the system performance, proportional-integral-derivative (PID) and H-infinity controllers have been designed. The multiplicative un

I dealt with the poetic verses represented by the lyrical introduction as a formative hypothesis, basing its goal on a methodological framework distributed on the problem that was summarized by the following question: Is it possible to look at the poetic pattern within the pre-Islamic poem / hanging blinking as a model, in its plastic dimensions and to identify the stylistic treatment that achieves the formation space within the poetic text. The novel aspect of this work is that the homogeneous alumina thin films were prepared in several stages to generate a plasma jet. In this paper, aluminium nanoparticles suspended in vinyl alcohol were prepared using exploding wire plasma. TEM analysis was used to determine the size and shape of particles in aluminium and vinyl alcohol suspensions; the TEM images showed that the particle size is 17.2 nm. Aluminium/poly vinyl alcohol (Al/PVA) thin films were prepared using this suspension on quartz substrate by plasma jet technique at room temperature with an argon gas flow rate of 1 L/min. The Al/PV
