Geological Model for Jeribe/Euphrates Formation, Tertiary Reservoir in Qaiyarah Oil Field, North of Iraq

Visualization of subsurface geology is mainly considered as the framework of the required structure to provide distribution of petrophysical properties. The geological model helps to understand the behavior of the fluid flow in the porous media that is affected by heterogeneity of the reservoir and helps in calculating the initial oil in place as well as selecting accurate new well location. In this study, a geological model is built for Qaiyarah field, tertiary reservoir, relying on well data from 48 wells, including the location of wells, formation tops and contour map. The structural model is constructed for the tertiary reservoir, which is an asymmetrical anticline consisting of two domes separated by a saddle. It is found that the three formations in the tertiary reservoir is composed of limestone and dolomitic limestone with very thin shale rims introduced only in the Dhiban Formation, which have the minimum thickness compared to the main other two formations those considered the main reservoir units. Upscaling from the software has been used to distribute and correlate between the logs and core data, which came very acceptable results to be used for distribution to the entire field. Both log analysis and core data have showed that the reservoir is clean formation, no volume of shale has considered in the STIIOP calculations with average water saturation calculated to be 31.5% and average porosity of approximately 22% with temperature gradient of 1.2 °F/100 ft. This comes up with Stock Tank Initial Oil in Place calculated to be 6.519*109.

Anomaly in the earth magnetic field at north provinces of Najaf city

This paper investigated in the numerical simulation model to calculate the Earth magnetic field components at north provinces of Najaf city (Longitude 44.316 o -44.3592o E and Latitude 32.0508o - 32.0256o N). The components of the Earth magnetic field (total intensity (F), horizontal intensity (H), declination (D), inclination (I), the north component(X), the east component(Y), and Down component(Z)) were found by using spherical harmonic world magnetic model (WMM2010). A great deal of anomaly has been discovered in all components of the Earth magnetic field at the selected region (Long. 44.345o-44.335o E, Lat.32.042o-32.032o N) using Kriging method.

Optimal Field Development Through Infill Drilling for the Main Pay in South Rumaila Oil Field
Abstract<p>Study of determining the optimal future field development has been done in a sector of South Rumaila oil field/ main pay. The aspects of net present value (economic evaluation) as objective function have been adopted in the present study.</p><p>Many different future prediction cases have been studied to determine the optimal production future scenario. The first future scenario was without water injection and the second and third with 7500 surface bbls/day and 15000 surface bbls/day water injection per well, respectively. At the beginning, the runs have been made to 2028 years, the results showed that the optimal future scenario is continuing without water in</p> ... Show More

Structural Interpretation of Seismic Data of Mishrif Formation in East Abu-Amoud Field, South-eastern Iraq

The seismic method depends on the nature of the reflected waves from the interfaces between layers, which in turn depends on the density and velocity of the layer, and this is called acoustic impedance. The seismic sections of the East Abu-Amoud field that is located in Missan Province, south-eastern Iraq, were studied and interpreted for updating the structural picture of the major Mishrif Formation for the reservoir in the Abu-amoud field. The Mishrif Formation is rich in petroleum in this area, with an area covering about 820 km2. The seismic interpretation of this study was carried out utilizing the software of Petrel-2017. The horizon was calibrated and defined on t

Simulation Model of Groundwater within Umm-Er Radhuma Formation in Anbar Province / Western Iraq

The study area is located in the south-eastern part of AL- Anbar province, between latitudes (31˚02ˉ00˭ -33˚03ˉ00˭) north and longitudes (40˚02ˉ00˭ -43˚04ˉ00˭) to the east. The research studied predictive mathematical Model of groundwater within Umm-Er Radhuma Formation and by (44) wells distributed randomly within the boundaries of the study area, all of them fall within the unconfined aquifer. Through the operating of wells on the time of (30) day and taking the operating results of each (5) days, results showed that the drawdown in groundwater levels values ranged from (13) cm after running the model for a period of 5 days and (120) cm after running Model for thirty days. And the drawdown values are concentrated near wells

The Structural and Stress Analysis of Hemrin North Structure, North of Iraq.

The study focused on the results of first paleostress from thrust fault slip data on Tertiary age of Hemrin North Structure, North of Iraq. The stress inversion was performed for fault slip data using an improved right dihedral model, and then followed by rotational optimization (Georient Software). The trend of the principal stress axes (σ1, σ2 and σ3) and the ratio of the principal stress differences (R) show the main paleostress field is NE-SW compression regime. As well as using Lisle graph and Mohr diagram to determine the magnitudes of palestress.  The values paleostress of the study area were σ1=1430 bars, σ2=632 bars and σ3=166 bar. The large magnitudes of the primary stress axes could be attributed to active tecto

Comparative Study between Different Oil Production Enhancement Scenarios in an Iraqi Tight Oil Reservoir

This paper presents a comparative study between different oil production enhancement scenarios in the Saadi tight oil reservoir located in the Halfaya Iraqi oil field. The reservoir exhibits poor petrophysical characteristics, including medium pore size, low permeability (reaching zero in some areas), and high porosity of up to 25%. Previous stimulation techniques such as acid fracturing and matrix acidizing have yielded low oil production in this reservoir. Therefore, the feasibility of hydraulic fracturing stimulation and/or horizontal well drilling scenarios was assessed to increase the production rate. While horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing can improve well performance, they come with high costs, often accounting for up t

Immiscible CO2-Assisted Gravity Drainage Process for Enhancing Oil Recovery in Bottom Water Drive reservoir

The CO2-Assisted Gravity Drainage process (GAGD) has been introduced to become one of the mostinfluential process to enhance oil recovery (EOR) methods in both secondary and tertiary recovery through immiscibleand miscible mode. Its advantages came from the ability of this process to provide gravity-stable oil displacement forenhancing oil recovery. Vertical injectors for CO2 gas have been placed at the crest of the pay zone to form a gas capwhich drain the oil towards the horizontal producing oil wells located above the oil-water-contact. The advantage ofhorizontal well is to provide big drainage area and small pressure drawdown due to the long penetration. Manysimulation and physical models of CO2-AGD process have been implemented

3-D Seismic Survey Study of Faults System in Balad Oil Field – Center of Iraq

3D seismic reflection structural study of (250) km² of Balad Oil field located in central part of Iraq within Salah Al-din province (Balad area) was carried out.
Faults were picked using instantaneous phase attribute of seismic sections and variance attribute of seismic time slices across 3D seismic volume.
A Listric growth normal fault is affecting the succession of Cretaceous Formation and cut by strike slip fault. In addition, minor normal faults (Dendritic and tension faults) are developed on the listric normal growth fault. As a result, a major graben is separated by Strike slip fault into two parts (north and south parts) and trend in NW-SE direction.
