Improving the BURT’s Sensitivity using Noise Calibration Unit via Crab Nebula Observations
...Show More Authors

Radio observations from astronomical sources like supernovae became one the most important sources of information about the physical properties of those objects. However, such radio observations are affected by various types of noise such as those from sky, background, receiver, and the system itself. Therefore, it is essential to eliminate or reduce these undesired noise from the signals in order to ensure accurate measurements and analysis of radio observations. One of the most commonly used methods for reducing the noise is to use a noise calibrator. In this study, the 3-m Baghdad University Radio Telescope (BURT) has been used to observe crab nebula with and without using a calibration unit in order to investigate its impact on the signal. Radio observations of crab nebula have been carried out for different periods in 2022. Several parameters of the telescope have been calculated and analyzed using statistical measurements with and without using the noise calibration unit. Those parameters are receiver gain, system temperature, antenna temperature, and degree per flux unit. The results of this research revealed that the fluctuation sensitivity of BURT improved by about an order of magnitude, when the noise calibration unit is used. The root mean square error and the radiometer equation of the antenna temperature decreased to less than 33% and 10%, respectively in comparison to their initial values. In conclusion, the noise calibration unit plays a crucial role to improve the sensitivity of a radio telescope drastically.

Investigating the Color Distribution of Young and Old Galaxies Using Observations from SDSS
...Show More Authors

This research aims to investigate the color distribution of a huge sample of 613654 galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Those galaxies are at a redshift of 0.001 - 0.5 and have magnitudes of g = 17 - 20. Five subsamples of galaxies at redshifts of (0.001 - 0.1), (0.1 - 0.2), (0.2 - 0.3), (0.3 - 0.4) and (0.4 - 0.5) have been extracted from the main sample. The color distributions (u-g), (g-r) and (u-r) have been produced and analysed using a Matlab code for the main sample as well as all five subsamples. Then a bimodal Gaussian fit to color distributions of data that have been carried out using minimum chi-square in Microsoft Office Excel. The results showed that the color distributions of the main sample and

The precision of drill calibration for dynamic navigation
...Show More Authors

Objectives To quantify the reproducibility of the drill calibration process in dynamic navigation guided placement of dental implants and to identify the human factors that could affect the precision of this process in order to improve the overall implant placement accuracy. Methods A set of six drills and four implants were calibrated by three operators following the standard calibration process of NaviDent® (ClaroNav Inc.). The reproducibility of the position of each tip of a drill or implant was calculated in relation to the pre-planned implants’ entry and apex positions. Intra- and inter-operator reliabilities were reported. The effects of the drill length and shape on the reproducibility of the calibration process were also investig

Noise Removal of ECG Signal Using Recursive Least Square Algorithms
...Show More Authors

This paper shows an approach for Electromyography (ECG) signal processing based on linear and nonlinear adaptive filtering using Recursive Least Square (RLS) algorithm to remove two kinds of noise that affected the ECG signal. These are the High Frequency Noise (HFN) and Low Frequency Noise (LFN). Simulation is performed in Matlab. The ECG, HFN and LFN signals used in this study were downloaded from ftp://ftp.ieee.org/uploads/press/rangayyan/, and then the filtering process was obtained by using adaptive finite impulse response (FIR) that illustrated better results than infinite impulse response (IIR) filters did.

Improving the Properties of Gypsum By Using Additives
...Show More Authors

Gypsum Plaster is an important building materials, and because of the availabilty of its raw materials. In this research the effect of various additives on the properties of plaster was studied , like Polyvinyl Acetate, Furfural, Fumed Silica at different rate of addition and two types of fibers, Carbon Fiber and Polypropylene Fiber to the plaster at a different volumetric rate. It was found that after analysis of the results the use of Furfural as an additive to plaster by 2.5% is the optimum ratio of addition to that it improved the flexural Strength by 3.18%.
When using Polyvinyl Acetate it was found that the ratio of the additive 2% is the optimum ratio of addition to the plaster, because it improved the value of the flexural stre

Radiation measuring devices need to process calibration which
lose their sensitivity and the extent of the response and the amount of
stability under a changing conditions from time to time and this
period depends on the nature and use of field in which used devices.
A comparison study was done to a (451P) (ionization chamber
survey meter) and this showed the variation of calibration factor in
five different years. This study also displayed the concept of
radiation instrument calibration and necessity of every year
calibration of them.
In this project we used the five years calibration data for ionization
chamber survey meter model Inspector (451P) to get that the values

Distances Scale Determination for a Planetary Nebula in Galagtic Bulge
...Show More Authors

ABSTRACT Planetary Nebulae (PN) distances represent the fundamental parameter for the determination the physical properties of the central star of PN. In this paper the distances scale to Planetary Nebulae in the Galactic bulge were calculated re- lated to previous distances scales. The proposed distance scale was done by recalibrated the previous distance scale technique CKS/D82. This scale limited for nearby PN (D ≤ 3.5 kpc), so the surface fluxes less than other distance scales. With these criteria the results showed that the proposed distance scale is more accurate than other scales related to the observations for adopted sample of PN distances, also the limit of ionized radius (Rio) for all both optically thick and optically thin in

An Optimum Strategy for Producing Precise GPS Satellite Orbits using Double-Differenced Observations
...Show More Authors

Both the double-differenced and zero-differenced GNSS positioning strategies have been widely used by the geodesists for different geodetic applications which are demanded for reliable and precise positions. A closer inspection of the requirements of these two GNSS positioning techniques, the zero-differenced positioning, which is known as Precise Point Positioning (PPP), has gained a special importance due to three main reasons. Firstly, the effective applications of PPP for geodetic purposes and precise applications depend entirely on the availability of the precise satellite products which consist of precise satellite orbital elements, precise satellite clock corrections, and Earth orientation parameters. Secondly, th
