Production Optimization for Natural Flow and ESP Well A Case Study on Well NS-5 Mishrif Formation-Nasriya Oil Field
...Show More Authors

As the reservoir conditions are in continuous changing during its life, well production rateand its performance will change and it needs to re-model according to the current situationsand to keep the production rate as high as possible.Well productivity is affected by changing in reservoir pressure, water cut, tubing size andwellhead pressure. For electrical submersible pump (ESP), it will also affected by numberof stages and operating frequency. In general, the production rate increases when reservoir pressure increases and/or water cutdecreases. Also the flow rate increase when tubing size increases and/or wellhead pressuredecreases. For ESP well, production rate increases when number of stages is increasedand/or pump frequency is increased. In this study, a nodal analysis software was used to design one well with natural flow andother with ESP. Reservoir, fluid and well information are taken from actual data of Mishrifformation-Nasriya oil field/ NS-5 well. Well design steps and data required in the modelwill be displayed and the optimization sensitivity keys will be applied on the model todetermine the effect of each individual parameter or when it combined with another one.

Prediction of Pressure Profile During Multi-Phase Flow in Different Oil Well: A Comparative Study
...Show More Authors

Multiphase flow is a very common phenomenon in oil wells. Several correlation models, either analytical or experimental, have been investigated by various studies to investigate this phenomenon. However, no single correlation model was found to produce good results in all flow conditions. 14 models available on the Prosper software were selected for the purpose of calculating the pressure gradient inside wells within a range of different flow conditions. The pressure gradient was calculated using Prosper software, then compared with the measured gradient based on the production log test (PLT) data. This study was conducted on 31 wells from five different oil fields (Kirkuk, Jambur, Bai-Hassan, Al-Ahdab, and Rumaila). It is worth noting t

Optimization of Drilling Well Design: A Review
...Show More Authors

Drilling well design optimization reduces total Authorization for Expenditures (AFE) by decreasing well constructing time and expense. Well design is not a constant pattern during the life cycle of the field. It should be optimized by continuous improvements for all aspects of redesigning the well depending on the actual field conditions and problems. The core objective of this study is to deliver a general review of the well design optimization processes and the available studies and applications to employ the well design optimization to solve problems encountered with well design so that cost effectiveness and perfect drilling well performance are achievable. Well design optimization processes include unconventional design(slimhole) co

Evaluation of petrophysical Properties of Zubair formation Luhais oil field Using Well Logging Analysis and Archie Parameters
...Show More Authors

well log analysis is used to determine the rock properties like porosity, water saturation, and shale volume. Archie parameters in Archie equation, which sometimes considered constants greatly affect the determination of water saturation, also these parameters may be used to indicate whether the rocks are fractured or not so they should be determined. This research involves well logging analysis for Zubair formation in Luhais field which involves the determination of Archie parameters instead of using them as constant.

The log interpretation proved that the formation is hydrocarbon reservoir, as it could be concluded from Rwa (high values) and water saturation values (low values), the lithology of Zubair from cro

Hydrocarbon Reservoir Characterization Using Well Logs of Nahr Umr Formation in Kifl Oil field, Central Iraq
...Show More Authors

This study aims to determine the petrophysical characteristics of the three wells in the Kifl Oilfield, central Iraq. The well logs were used to characterize hydrocarbon reservoirs to assess the hydrocarbon prospectivity, designate hydrocarbon and water-bearing zones, and determine the Nahr Umr Formation's petrophysical parameters. The Nahr Umr reservoir mainly consists of sandstone at the bottom and has an upper shale zone containing a small proportion of oil. The geophysical logs data from three oil wells include gamma-ray, resistivity, neutron, density, acoustic, and spontaneous potential logs. A gamma-ray log was employed for lithology differentiation, and a resistivity log was used to determine the response of distinct zones

Reservoir Characterization and Identification of Formation Lithology from Well Log Data of Nahr Umr Formation in Luhais Oil Field, Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

The identification of a bed’s lithology is fundamental to all reservoir characterization because the physical and chemical properties of the rock that holds hydrocarbons and/or water affect the response of every tool used to measure formation properties. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate reservoir properties and lithological identification of Nahr Umr Formation in Luhais well -12 southern Iraq. The available well logs such as (sonic, density, neutron, gamma ray, SP, and resistivity logs) are digitized using the Didger software. The petrophysical parameters such as porosity, water saturation, hydrocarbon saturation, bulk water volume, etc. were computed and interpreted using Techlog software. The lithology prediction of Nahr

Building a 3D Petrophysical Model for Mishrif Formation in Nasiriyah Oil Field, Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

A 3D geological model for Mishrif Reservoir in Nasiriyah oil field had been invented "designed" "built". Twenty Five wells namely have been selected lying in Nasiriyah  Governorate in order to build Structural and petrophysical (porosity and water saturation) models represented by a 3D static geological model in three directions .Structural model showed that Nasiriyah oil field represents anticlinal fold its length about 30 km and the width about 10  km, its axis extends toward NW–SE  with structural closure about 65 km . After making zones for Mishrif reservoir, which was divided into 5 zones i.e. (MA zone, UmB 1zone,MmB1 zone ,L.mB1 zone and mB2zone) .Layers were built for each zone depending on petrophysical propertie

A Survey of Infill Well Location Optimization Techniques
...Show More Authors

The maximization of the net present value of the investment in oil field improvements is greatly aided by the optimization of well location, which plays a significant role in the production of oil. However, using of optimization methods in well placement developments is exceedingly difficult since the well placement optimization scenario involves a large number of choice variables, objective functions, and restrictions. In addition, a wide variety of computational approaches, both traditional and unconventional, have been applied in order to maximize the efficiency of well installation operations. This research demonstrates how optimization approaches used in well placement have progressed since the last time they were examined. Fol

Using Geophysical Well Logs in Studying Reservoir Properties of Zubair Formation in Luhais Oil Field, Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

The characterizations of reservoir require reliable knowledge of certain fundamental reservoir properties. Log measurements can define or at least infer these properties: resistivity, porosity, shale volume, lithology, and water, oil, or gas saturation and permeability. The current study represents evaluation of petrophysical properties in well LU-12 for Zubair Formation in Luhais Oil Field, southern Iraq. The petrophysical evaluation was based on geophysical well logs data to delineate the reservoir characteristics of Zubair Formation. The available geophysical well logs such as (sonic, density, neutron, gamma ray, SP, and resistivity logs) are digitized using the Didger software. The environmental corrections and petrophysical paramete

Evaluation of Petrophysical Properties Using Well Logs of Yamama Formation in Abu Amood Oil Field, Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

The petrophysical analysis is very important to understand the factors controlling the reservoir quality and production wells. In the current study, the petrophysical evaluation was accomplished to hydrocarbon assessment based on well log data of four wells of Early Cretaceous carbonate reservoir Yamama Formation in Abu-Amood oil field in the southern part of Iraq. The available well logs such as sonic, density, neutron, gamma ray, SP, and resistivity logs for wells AAm-1, AAm-2, AAm-3, and AAm-5 were used to delineate the reservoir characteristics of the Yamama Formation. Lithologic and mineralogic studies were performed using porosity logs combination cross plots such as density vs. neutron cross plot and M-N mineralogy plot. Thes
