Summary

I graduated with a B.Sc. degree in Microbiology from the College of Science, University of Al-Mustansiriya in 2001 and then I served as lab assistance in 2003 at Department of Basic Sciences at College of Dentistry, Al-Mustansiriya University. After that I complete my master degree in botany at 2005 and I served as a faculty member in the Department of Basic Sciences at College of Dentistry, Al-Mustansiriya University. I worked at the Faculty of Medicine at the International University for Science and Technology 2008 -2012. Then I worked at Ibn Al-Bitar Research Center 2013-2014. And from 2014-2015 I worked at Al-Nisoor University College, and from 2014 -2023 I worked at Baghdad College of Medical Sciences, and from 2023 till now I worked at college of pharmacy, university of Baghdad.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) stands as the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmia, with associated risks of stroke and systemic thromboembolism. While vitamin K antagonists, specifically warfarin, have historically been the mainstay for stroke prevention in AF, they come with inherent limitations.

Aim: This review seeks to offer a comprehensive analysis of the efficacy, safety, and clinical advantages of novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) compared to traditional warfarin in AF management.

Method: A meticulous examination of pivotal clinical trials, meta-analyses, and recent research publications was conducted.
