Matrix acidizing in carbonate rocks and the impact on geomechanical properties: A review

Acid treatment is a widely used stimulation technique in the petroleum industry. Matrix acidizing is regarded as an effective and efficient acidizing technique for carbonate formations that leads to increase the fracture propagation, repair formation damage, and increase the permeability of carbonate rocks. Generally, the injected acid dissolves into the rock minerals and generates wormholes that modify the rock structure and enhance hydrocarbon production. However, one of the key issues is the associated degradation in the mechanical properties of carbonate rocks caused by the generated wormholes, which may significantly reduce the elastic properties and hardness of rocks. There have been several experimental and simulation studies regarding the impact of acid wormholes on rock weakening in various carbonate rocks (chalk, limestone, and dolomite). However, considering the number of effective parameters which are associated with matrix acidizing, it is crucial to carefully monitor the acidizing procedure as well as perform a post-treatment evaluation of the targeted rocks. This work aims to review the fundamentals of matrix acidizing as a viable stimulation technique for carbonate rocks and provide deeper insight into the potential alterations in geo-mechanical properties. This review also evaluates a group of key parameters including acid type, injection rate, wellbore geometry, and rock type, and highlights the various analytical techniques used for acid stimulation evaluation in carbonate rocks.

Numerical Investigations on Heat Flow of Nanofluids in Ribs Tube Configurations

Abstract

In this paper presents two dimensional turbulent flow of different nanofluids and ribs configuration in a circular tube have been numerically investigation using FLUENT 6.3.26. Two samples of CuO and, ZnO nanoparticles with 2% v/v concentration and 40 nm as nanoparticle diameter combined with trapezoidalribs with aspect ratio of p/d=5.72 in a constant tube surface heat flux were conducted for simulation. The results showed that heat flow as Nusselt number for all cases raises with Reynolds number and volume fraction of nanofluid, likewise the results also reveal that ZnO with volume fractions of 2% in trapezoidal ribs offered highest Nusselt number at Reynolds number of Re= 30000.

Effects of Land Use and Land Cover on Concentrations of Heavy Metals in Surface Soils of Lesser Zab River Basin, NE Iraq

To investigate and assess the effects of land use and land cover (LULC) on concentrations of heavy metals in the surface soils of Lesser Zab River Basin (LZRB), 25 surface soil samples were taken from different LULC classes. Heavy metals concentrations were measured and their enrichment factors were calculated. Most of the LZRB soil samples are moderately alkaline with pH>8 and characterized by low organic content. The average abundance of the major oxides follow the decreasing order of SiO2 % > CaO % > Al2O3 % > Fe2O3 %> MgO > K2O % > TiO2 % > Na2O % > SO3 % > P2O5 %. The wild populations of the vinegar fly Drosophila melanogaster Meigen from two regions in Baghdad , Saidiya and Tuwaitha were selected for this study to investigating the frequency of the dominant lethality , this parameter was investigated through fecundity and egg hatchability rate which considered as main indicator for the presence of mutation .
