Sustainable Traffic Management Strategies for Congested Intersections: Multi-Criteria Assessment of Al-Sa’a Intersection and Al-Jari Street in Hit City
...Show More Authors

The study aims to evaluate sustainable traffic management strategies for congested intersections in medium-sized Iraqi cities, with a focus on Al-Sa’a Intersection and Al-Jari Street in Hit City. These nodes face severe traffic congestion, delays, and infrastructure limitations that compromise urban mobility and sustainability. A multi-criteria evaluation (MCE) framework was employed to analyze three categories of interventions—engineering, planning, and administrative—based on five weighted criteria: traffic efficiency (40%), delay reduction (25%), cost (20%), environmental impact (10%), and social acceptance (5%). The methodology combined field data collection (traffic counts, travel time, and delays), GIS-based spatial analysis, and stakeholder consultation to prioritize solutions and evaluate performance. The findings indicated that all proposed solutions improved traffic performance, but varied in scope and impact. Engineering solutions, such as street widening and grade separation, reduced congestion by up to 40%. Planning measures, including public transport enhancement and alternative routes, scored the highest (8.2/10) due to their long-term sustainability and balanced environmental impact. Administrative actions—optimized signal timing and truck regulation—offered low-cost, short-term improvements. The study demonstrates the value of integrated, GIS-supported, multi-criteria approaches in diagnosing and addressing urban traffic challenges in secondary cities. A phased implementation strategy is recommended: initiate with administrative measures, transition to planning-based interventions, and apply engineering upgrades where necessary. The framework can support future transport planning in similar urban contexts across Iraq. © 2025 The authors. An intersection-based segment aware algorithm for geographic routing in VANETs
...Show More Authors

In networking communication systems like vehicular ad hoc networks, the high vehicular mobility leads to rapid shifts in vehicle densities, incoherence in inter-vehicle communications, and challenges for routing algorithms. It is necessary that the routing algorithm avoids transmitting the pockets via segments where the network density is low and the scale of network disconnections is high as this could lead to packet loss, interruptions and increased communication overhead in route recovery. Hence, attention needs to be paid to both segment status and traffic. The aim of this paper is to present an intersection-based segment aware algorithm for geographic routing in vehicular ad hoc networks. This algorithm makes available the best route f

Evaluation of some indicators of urbanization in the city of al-Qaim in the Iraqi province of Anbar
...Show More Authors

Urban Balance is one of the important indicators that leads to an assessment of the urbanization process in a particular country , province or even a city that is multi-centered. By examining the data related to Anba province, it was found that the value of this indicator is equal to 0.96, which is less than the absolute one, and therefore the urbanization in the province is distributed collectively

The development of a mathematical or statistical model for estimating urban growth is a complex process due to the overlap between indicators or variables that can be adopted to calculate estimate growth rates Al-Qaim city has been considered as an example to develop a statistical method by which changes

SHE Networks: Security, Health, and Emergency Networks Traffic Priority Management Based on ML and SDN
...Show More Authors

Recently, the increasing demand to transfer data through the Internet has pushed the Internet infrastructure to the nal edge of the ability of these networks. This high demand causes a deciency of rapid response to emergencies and disasters to control or reduce the devastating effects of these disasters. As one of the main cornerstones to address the data trafc forwarding issue, the Internet networks need to impose the highest priority on the special networks: Security, Health, and Emergency (SHE) data trafc. These networks work in closed and private domains to serve a group of users for specic tasks. Our novel proposed network ow priority management based on ML and SDN fullls high control to give the required ow priority to SHE dat

The management of water distribution network using GIS application case study: AL-Karada area
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Clean water supply is one of the major factors contributing significantly to society’s socio-economic transformation by improving living standards, health, and increasing productivity. It is imperative to plan and construct appropriate water supply systems in modern society, which supply various segments of society with safe drinking water according to their requirements to ensure adequate and quality water supply. In the current study, here was an attempt to develop a model for geographic information systems to manage the assets of the water distribution networks in the Karrada region and to evaluate the network geometrically, and from the results of the engineering analysis of the
...
