Aim The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of demographic, clinical, and radiographic factors on the duration of surgical extraction of impacted lower third molars. Materials and methods This retrospective study included patients who underwent surgical removal of impacted lower third molars, and the investigated factors were demographic data including age and gender, radiographic data including the impacted tooth angulation and depth of impaction and ramus relation, and clinical data including the state of eruption of the impacted teeth. These factors were evaluated for association with the duration of surgery. Descriptive statistical analysis included percentages and mean ± standard deviation (SD). Student's t-test was used to compare means between two groups, while for comparing the means among three or more groups for statistical significance, analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was used. Results Forty patients were included: 20 (50%) males and 20 (50%) females. The age range was from 17 to 37 years with a mean ± SD of 23.4 ± 5.016 years. The duration of surgery (± SD) in all the patients ranged from 10 to 40 minutes with a mean of 25.8 ± 8.56 minutes. Clinically unerupted teeth and deep ramus relationship were associated with statistically significant increase in duration of surgical extraction. Conclusion This study identifies state of eruption and ramus relation to be significant predictive factors, whereas other investigated factors, namely, age of patient, sex, angulation of teeth, and depth of impaction, were found to be not significant in determining the duration of surgery and hence, the difficulty of extraction. Clinical significance Duration of surgical extraction of impacted mandibular third molars can be considered as an indicator for difficulty of surgical extraction. Difficult surgical extraction of impacted mandibular third molars can be anticipated in clinically unerupted teeth and those with deep ramus relationship.
Two prevalent neurodevelopment disorders in children are attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The fifth version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders describes autism as a condition marked by limitations in social communication as well as restricted, repetitive behavior patterns. While impulsivity, hyperactivity, and lack of concentration are signs of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Boys experience it more frequently than girls do. This study sought for possible factors that put children at risk for autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and it investigated the association between neurodevelopment disorders in children and parental risk factor i

The identification of synephrine done by Thin layer chromatography (TLC), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and The Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). The characterization of gold nanoparticles by using Ultra Violet-Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Field – Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), confirmed the biosynt

Methodology: A quasi-experimental design study conducing on (140) student purposely in four secondary schools at Al-sadder city (70) student for study group and (70) for control group. The prevalence of PMS selected through American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) (2015) criterias to select PMS students before program. The education program were set in four steps, the first step (pre-test) is to assess the knowledge , before the implementation of the program, the second step is implementing the program, following two steps post-test I and II between each test two weeks. Objective: To assess the functional outcome, time to union, shoulder pain, blood loss, operative time, iatrogenic radial nerve injury, hospitalization, and infection. Methodology: It is a prospective randomized study on 30 patients with mid-shaft humerus fracture according to AO classification (1.2A1, 2, 3 and 1,2B) with functioning radial nerve. They were randomly dividing into two groups. Group A were treated by a closed antegrade interlocking nail, and group B treated by open reduction and locked compression plate fixation. The follow-up was up to 6 months, including time to union, shoulder pain, intraoperative blood loss, operative time and iatrogenic radial nerve injury. Functional outcome was assessed by quick DASH score. Resu

To achieve this, a unique electrochemical cell design was adopted comprising two glass chambers, a supported liquid membrane (SLM), a graphite anode, and a stainless-steel cathode. The SLM consisted of a polypropylene flat membrane infused with 1-octanol as a solvent and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (DEHP) as a carrier. The impact of various factors on the kinetics constant rate was outlined, including the applied voltage, initial pH of the donor phase solution, and initial copper concentration. The results demonstrated a significant influence of the applied voltage on enhancing the rate of c

Show MoreThe objectives of this study were to assess the potential of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) on acceleration of soft tissue healing after tooth extraction and to evaluate its effectiveness in reducing the prevalence of dry socket among smoker patients. Twenty smoker male patients aged (18–72) years with multiple teeth extraction were participated in this clinical research. They underwent trans-alveolar extraction of 40 teeth. The extraction sockets were divided in each patient into 2 groups: the study group in which extraction sockets were treated with PRF and the control group: in which extraction sockets left to heal naturally without PRF. Today, the prediction system and survival rate became an important request. A previous paper constructed a scoring system to predict breast cancer mortality at 5 to 10 years by using age, personal history of breast cancer, grade, TNM stage and multicentricity as prognostic factors in Spain population. This paper highlights the improvement of survival prediction by using fuzzy logic, through upgrading the scoring system to make it more accurate and efficient in cases of unknown factors, age groups, and in the way of how to calculate the final score. By using Matlab as a simulator, the result shows a wide variation in the possibility of values for calculating the risk percentage instead of only 16. Additionally, the accuracy will be calculate

Background: Febrile convulsions are the most frequent type of seizures in children under 6 years of age. Significant percentage of these children will later suffer from recurrence of febrile convulsion. Objectives: To identify the main risk factors for recurrent febrile convulsions in children. Methods: we carried out a case control study involving 89 children those who experienced first attack of febrile convulsions and 92 children with recurrent attack of febrile convulsions. The study was conducted in Central Children Teaching Hospital, Baghdad during the period 2006- 2007. Results: Compared to children with first attack of febrile convulsion, children with recurrent seizures were younger at onset (4- 12m) (67% vs. 44%), mainly male (70
