Effect of nano-TiO<sub>2</sub> on physical and rheological properties of asphalt cement

Abstract<p>In recent years, nano-modified asphalt has gained significant attraction from researchers in the design of asphalt pavement fields. The recently discovered Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO<sub>2</sub>) are among the most exciting and promising nanomaterials. This study examines the effect of 1, 3, 5, and 7% of nano-TiO<sub>2</sub> by weight of asphalt on some of its rheological and hardened properties. The experimental study included physical and rheological properties. The asphalt penetration, softening point, ductility, and rotational viscometer tests indicate that 5% nano-TiO<sub>2</sub> is the ideal amount to be added to bitumen as a modifier. The study of the rotating viscosity test showed that the addition of nano-TiO<sub>2</sub> helped to increase viscosity and lessen bituminous sensitivity. Rutting factor in terms of <italic>G</italic>*/sin <italic>δ</italic> indicated the addition of 3 to 7% of nano-TiO<sub>2</sub> increased the rutting resistance of asphalt against higher temperatures and promoted performance grade by about one grade at 3% and two grades at a range of 5–7% this suggests that nano-TiO<sub>2</sub> increased the stiffness of the asphalt and leading to enhance the rutting performance of asphalt. While fatigue parameter, <italic>G</italic>*.sin <italic>δ</italic> shows that as nanocontent increases, higher stiffness at 5 and 7% of TiO<sub>2</sub> content leads to an increase in complex modulus and a decrease in fatigue parameter. Higher creep stiffness and higher <italic>m</italic>-values were noted at low temperatures as nano increases in asphalt binder, increasing stiffness and decreasing the <italic>m</italic>-value at −6 and 12°C. As a result, using 5% nano-TiO<sub>2</sub> will improve asphalt’s physical properties and enhance asphalt anit-rutting and fatigue resistance.</p>

Effect of water absorption on some mechanical and physical properties of epoxy/polyurethane blend reinforced with nano silica powder

The aim of this work is to evaluate some mechanical and physical
properties (i.e. the impact strength, hardness, flexural strength,
thermal conductivity and diffusion coefficient) of
(epoxy/polyurethane) blend reinforced with nano silica powder (2%
wt.). Hand lay-up technique was used to manufacture the composite
and a magnetic stirrer for blending the components. Results showed
that water had affected the bending flexural strength and hardness,
while impact strength increased and thermal conductivity decreased.
In addition to the above mentioned tests, the diffusion coefficient
was calculated using Fick’s 2nd law.

Effect of different variables on asphalt mechanical properties

Permanent deformation (rutting) of asphalt mixtures is one of the major forms of distress. Aggregate gradation is one of the most important factors affecting the permanent deformation of asphalt mixtures. Other variables are also important to understand their effects on the mixture such as temperature, binder content and compaction level. For this purpose 6 different aggregate gradations have been chosen and each one of them has been manufactured / tested with different variables. Ciprofloxacin adsorption via compressed wood activated carbon with ZnCl&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt; activating agent from simulated wastewater: Mechanism studying

      The current study objective is to synthesize activated carbon (AC) from compressed wood using the ZnCl2 activating agent and to assess the ciprofloxacin (CIP) elimination efficiency in simulated wastewater. The produced AC was characterized using multiple techniques, including SEM, BET, FTIR, AFM, and XRD. The adsorbent demonstrates high adsorption performance, achieving 91% removal of CIP within 5 hours at an initial pollutant concentration of 100 mg/L with an AC dose of 2 g/L. The researchers prepare SPEs with varying molecular weight ratios of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and sodium tetrafluoroborate (NaBF<sub>4</sub>) using a solution casting method with dimethyl formamide as the solvent. Through optical absorbance measurements, we identified the PAN:NaBF<sub>4</sub> (80:20) SPE composition as having the lowest energy band gap value (4.48 eV).
