Preparation of eggshell powder and using it in coating and extending shelf life of table eggs during refrigerator storage
...Show More Authors

This study aimed to formulate carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)–eggshell powder (ESP) composite coatings ( , , and ) and evaluate their efficacy in extending table egg shelf life and preserving quality parameters compared to an uncoated control ( ). Egg weight parameters, interior egg quality, component proportions, and bacterial counts of shell eggs stored under refrigeration for up to 8 weeks. Coating treatments significantly increased total egg weight and shell thickness at (P<0.05), with  and  recording the highest initial values. Although weight loss and weight loss percentage were non-significant during week 1, significant weight loss emerged by week 2 and scaled proportionally through weeks 4 and 8. The uncoated control ( ) sustained the highest cumulative weight loss, whereas  and  demonstrated superior long-term weight retention, significantly outperforming  by week 8. Interior quality parameters (yolk height, yolk diameter, yolk index, and albumen height/Haugh units) showed no initial significant differences during week 1; however, as storage extended to 2, 4, and 8 weeks,  and  consistently preserved higher albumen and yolk quality compared to . Coated eggs maintained significantly higher relative shell weights and percentages throughout cold storage, slowing the characteristic reduction in albumen weight and percentage observed over time. Microbiologically, coating treatments exerted an immediate and sustained antibacterial effect ( ), significantly lowering Total Bacterial Count (TBC) and Total Coliform Count (TCC) from zero-time through 8 weeks, with  and  demonstrating the highest antimicrobial efficacy. Overall, applying CMC–eggshell powder coatings—particularly formulations  and —serves as an effective multi-functional barrier to minimize weight loss, preserve interior freshness, and inhibit microbial contamination in refrigerated table eggs during extended storage.

Thyroidectomy in elderly ; is it safe?
...Show More Authors

Background: The prevalence of thyroid nodules rise with age and different data available about the risks of thyroid surgery in old age people. In general, old age could be a predictor of perioperative mortality and morbidity. The aim of this study is to prove if there is increased risk accompanying thyroidectomy in elderly patients.

Subjects and Methods: Prospective study of one surgeon of study sample undergoing thyroid surgery at Al-Kindy teaching hospital and Saint Raphael hospital .This study was including two groups; group (A) involved patients 65 years and older, group (B) involved patients below 65 years old who were subjected to thyroidectomy. Taking in consideration hist

The age-specific fecundity life tables of Planococcus citri Risso and important predators attack in Baghdad
...Show More Authors

Reproduction potential and age –specific fecundity of the Mealybug Planococcus citri Risso were studied in the laboratories of Biological control research unit, college of Agriculture –Baghdad university at 25± 2Cº and 60-70% R.H.with 16 light:8 dark photo period. The results showed that the survival ratio began to decline at the 38th day, the average female age was 20 days ,while the average age was 8 days at the first reproduction . Net reproduction rate ( Ro ) was 58.59 female female generation which prove that the population of the mealybug was of the unstable kind , intrinsic rate of increase (rm) was 0.118 femalefemale and the average length period of generation ( T ) was 34.30 days . Many local predators attack the mealybug

PREPARATION OF PVC HOLLOW FIBER MEMBRANE USING (DMAC/ACETONE)
...Show More Authors

Membrane manufacturing system was operated using dry/wet phase inversion process. A sample of hollow fiber membrane was prepared using (17% wt PVC) polyvinyl chloride as membrane material and N, N Dimethylacetamide (DMAC) as solvent in the first run and the second run was made using (DMAC/Acetone) of ratio 3.4 w/w. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to predict the structure and dimensions of hollow fiber membranes prepared. The ultrafiltration experiments were performed using soluble polymeric solute poly ethylene glycol (PEG) of molecular weight (20000 Dalton) 800 ppm solution 25 °C temperature and 1 bar pressure. The experimental results show that pure water permeation increased from 25.7 to 32.2 (L/m2.h.bar) by adding a

The Impact of Unregulated Urban Sprawl on Public Services and Quality of Life in Baghdad: A Case Study of Al-Dora District Using Spatial Analysis
...Show More Authors

The rapid and uncontrolled expansion of urban sprawl in Baghdad, particularly after 2003, has significantly transformed the city's landscape. This expansion stems from socio-political instability, a lack of affordable housing, and inadequate urban planning frameworks. As informal settlements encroach on agricultural lands, the city's infrastructure—including water, sanitation, and transportation systems—faces mounting pressure. This situation presents critical challenges to the sustainability of Baghdad’s public services and the quality of life for its residents. This study aims to evaluate the impact of unregulated urban sprawl on Baghdad’s public services and infrastructure, focusing on how informal growth has undermined the city'

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to model and optimize the fatigue life and hardness of medium carbon steel CK35 subjected to dynamic buckling. Different ranges of shot peening time (STP) and critical points of slenderness ratio which is between the long and intermediate columns, as input factors, were used to obtain their influences on the fatigue life and hardness, as main responses. Experimental measurements of shot peening time and buckling were taken and analyzed using (DESIGN EXPERT 8) experimental design software which was used for modeling and optimization purposes. Mathematical models of responses were obtained and analyzed by ANOVA variance to verify the adequacy of the models. The resul
