This research examines the scientific impact of Al-Hafiz Sharaf al-Din al-Damiati, who descended from a famous scholarly family known as (Al-Damiati) in reference to the city of Damietta in Egypt. This family was distinguished by producing scholars and writers during the Ayyubid and Mamluk eras, the most prominent of whom was Sharaf al-Din. He was preceded by a scholar of no lesser scientific stature, Shams al-Din al-Damiati (d. 693 AH), who was famous for his knowledge of the science of readings. The present study is an attempt to show how the three Umayyad poets ; Jarir , Al-
Farazdaq and Al-Akhtal have consciously and skillfully employed in their poetry som ancient
Arab legends ,historical events and wars as they provide atrue image of the values and
customs of the peoples who lived before them .
Their employed , how ever, takes avarying degrees depending, to alarge extent , an the
vast but personal knowledge of each poet the past tradition , and practices . Jarir ,in many
respects out , stands the first , Al-Farazdaq , the second and Al-Akhtal , the third .

The present study is an academic attempt to show how the threeUmayyad poets ; Jarir ,
Al-Farazdaq and Al-Akhtal have skillfully employed old conventions and traditions in their
poetry to serve a dual purpose of making their ideas striking , memorable and compelling and
of reaching eminence as poets.
The primary aim of the poets has been to amuse , convince and influence the readers or
listeners of their poetry . as it were, a mirror image of the social , religious and historical
beliefs , values and customs which prevailed throughout the ages before the emergence.

This work focused on anthropogenic influences of the trace metals distribution in the soils of Kirkuk city. Sequential extraction technique was used to determine the distribution of the chemical fractions of Ag, Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, As, Cr and V in soil of Kirkuk city. This area is affected mainly by burning oil trash. Results show that these heavy metals were primarily restricted to surface horizons and mostly associated with the residual fraction (28.8 – 50%). The remnant fractions (13.8 – 33.1%) linked to the organic matter, 7.9 – 27.2% was bound to Fe-Mn oxide, 0.7 – 27.9 was bound to carbonate. Only a small amount of the total metals in the soil is exchangeable (0.5 – 4.2%) and water soluble (0 – 4.1%) fractions.
