The inhibitive power of Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) was investigated toward the corrosion of carbon steel in 0.2N H₂SO₄ solution in the temperature range of 30-60˚C and PVA concentration range of 150-2000 ppm.

   The corrosion rate was measured using both the weight loss and the electrochemical techniques. The weight loss results showed that PVA could serve as a corrosion inhibitor but its inhibition power was found to be low for the corrosion of carbon steel in the acidic media. In this work, the extraction of glycyrrhizin from Licorice using bulk liquid membrane technique was developed and optimized. The effect of various parameters such as pH of stripping and donor solutions, temperature, stirring speed and kinetic parameters were investigated. Moreover, to study the impact of the polarity of membrane solvent, two types of extraction solvents were used as a membrane solvent: n-Hexane was used as a non-polar solvent and 1-Hexanol was as a polar solvent. Two novel demountable shear connectors for precast steel-concrete composite bridges are presented. The connectors use high-strength steel bolts, which are fastened to the steel beam with the aid of a special locking configuration that prevents slip of bolts within their holes. Moreover, the connectors promote accelerated construction and overcome typical construction tolerances issues of precast structures. The use of Eucalyptus sp. against the Backswimmer insect Anisops sardea Herrich-Schaeffer, 1849 predatory of larvae of common carp fish, Cyprinus carpio L., in artificial closed ponds in Babylon province represented a new idea in Iraq. Extension of bandwidth for high reflectance zone for the spectral region (8-14pm) was studied adapting the concept of contiguous and overlapping high reflectance stacks. Computations was carried out using the modified characteristic matrix theory restricted to near-normal incidence of light on dielectric , homogenous and isotropic symmetrical stack. Certain precautions must be taken in the choice of stacks to avoid deep —reflectance minima from developing within the extended high reflectance region. Results illustrate that the techniques of extending the high reflectance regions are applicable not only to mirrors , but also to short-and long-edge filter and to narrow band pass filters.
