Fibromyalgia Syndrome among Iraqi Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis.

Back ground: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a common chronic musculo-skeletal disorder resulting in chronic widespread pain impacting on quality life.
Objectives: To assess the relationship between FMS and knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and to evaluate the predictors of this relationship if present.
Patients and Methods: One hundred Iraqi KOA patients and 100 healthy controls were included in this cross-sectional study. Full history was taken and complete clinical examination was done for all patients. Baseline characteristics [age, sex, duration, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, family history (Hx) of KOA, smoking history, and drug history.] were also documented. Laboratory analysis included complete blood count, erythrocyte

Clinical assessment of external fixation in pelvic ring fractures

Background: Unstable pelvic ring fractures (PRF) are high energy trauma, commonly associated with systemic and soft tissues elements injures, the external fixation as an emergency and final treatment is one of the options in its management.

Objective: to evaluate the value and role of external fixation for unstable (PRF) and its clinical outcomes.

Patients and methods: twenty one patients with unstable P.R.F have been treated by external fixation , they were 16 men and 5 women ,their  average age was 28 years (range ;18-60 years) , two thirds of the cases were due to road traffic accident , 85% were hemodynamicaly unstable , urological and neurological, anorectal injuries were the commonest associate

Comparison of Conventional and Aerobic Iandfill Simulator Reactors (case study; Kirkuk city, Iraq)

Under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, two laboratory-scale reactors were operated. Each reactor
was packed with 8.5 kg of shredded synthetic solid waste (less than 5 cm) that was prepared according to an
average composition of domestic solid waste in the city of Kirkuk. Using an air compressor, aerobic
conditions were created in the aerobic reactor. This study shows that the aerobic reactor was more efficient in
COD and BOD5 removal which were 97.88% and 91.25% while in case of anaerobic reactor, they were
66.53%and 19.11%, respectively.

Gingival Pigmentation Pattern in Correlation to Skin Color in a Group of Kurdish People in Sulaimani City

Background: Melanin pigmentation of the gingiva appears in all ethnicities. Excessive pigmentation is an esthetic concern that has increased awareness about depigmentation procedures. This epidemiological study aims to find the correlation between skin color and gingival pigmentation in Sulaimani Governorate, Kurdistan/Iraq.

Subjects and Methods: A total of 820 apparently healthy and non-smokers, including 338 males and 482 females with healthy gingiva, aged between (18-40 years old) were enrolled in this study. Clinical examination on the participants’ gingivae was performed to assess color, and the distribution of pigmentations. Afterward the of participants skin color were

IRAQI Academic Admission System: A Performance Analysis Evaluation

The service quality of any information-based system could be evaluated by the high-end user in such a way that the system developer or responsible intently might use these user experiences to improve, develop and benchmark their system. In this paper, questionnaire implemented to rate to what extent the academic admission system as a web site achieves performance. Data were collected from 21 users of the system; all of them are highly educated and have the experience of using the site. Quadrant and gap analysis were implemented to evaluate the weakness and strength of the data. The major data analyses were performed on the data collected in terms of its importance and satisfaction to the users. A number of statistical tools have been uti

Estimating the Reliability Function of (2+1) Cascade Model

This paper discusses reliability R of the (2+1) Cascade model of inverse Weibull distribution. Reliability is to be found when strength-stress distributed is inverse Weibull random variables with unknown scale parameter and known shape parameter. Six estimation methods (Maximum likelihood, Moment, Least Square, Weighted Least Square, Regression and Percentile) are used to estimate reliability. There is a comparison between six different estimation methods by the simulation study by MATLAB 2016, using two statistical criteria Mean square error and Mean Absolute Percentage Error, where it is found that best estimator between the six estimators is Maximum likelihood estimation method.

Microdebrider-assisted turbinoplasty versus submucosal diathermy in treatment of inferior turbinate hypertrophy

The surgical treatment of inferior turbinate hypertrophy (ITH) is challenging. Submucosal diathermy (SMD) is a well-known surgical procedure used for the treatment of ITH, microdebrider-assisted rhinoplasty (MAT) is relatively a newer technique used in the management of ITH. To evaluate the effect of MAT on inferior turbinate size and nasal airway patency in patients with bilateral ITH in comparison to SMD. Seventy-one patients presented with nasal obstruction due to bilateral ITH were allocated into two groups, group a (35 patients) were subjected to SMD and 36 patients in group B were subjected to MAT. All the patients had been sent to CT scan pre-operatively and at the third postoperative month to measure the cross-sectional areas

Spirometric evaluation of gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd) associated cough and asthma

Background: Gastroesophageal reflux disease can lead to esophageal complications, including esophagitis, ulceration, stricture, hemorrhage, and Barrett’s esophagus. However, the spectrum of problems associated with GERD has expanded to extra esophageal sites. Chronic cough and asthma are two clinical problems caused or triggered by GERD. Spirometric changes among GERD associated cough and asthma still a topic of ongoing research.
Objectives: This study was designated to evaluate the spirometric picture of GERD associated cough and asthma subjects in relation to different clinical aspects of the disease including body mass index (BMI), disease duration, presence or absence of symptoms as well as endoscop

A previously_prepared Iraqi version of Costa & McCrae the big five factor has been adminstered to (200) students at University of Baghdad in order to investigate the hypothesized differences in factor structures between the original version of Costa & McCrae test and the Iraqi version.

To verify the hypothesized differences , the minieigen value. Factors , maximum likelihood criteria of determining the number of factors , and varimax and promax as methods of rotation have been used.

RATE CONSTANT OF SOME AMINO DERIVATIVES DISSOCIATION: RATE CONSTANT OF SOME AMINO DERIVATIVES DISSOCIATION

Amino glycoside derivation including, Neomycin, Streptomycin, Kanamycin and Gentamycin with special reagents, which  are  benzoylchloride; benzene sulfonyl chloride and phthalic anhydride were made to enhance Uv-detectability for HPLC analysis. But there are many problems facing pre column derivation and in order to solve this, the conductivity of antibiotic derivatives were used to calculate the dissociation constant and the hydrolysis rate which determined concern type reaction. In addition the  characteristics those controlling the hydrolysis of antibiotic-derivatives were investigated.
