Asymptomatic Bacteriuria in Pregnant and Diabetic Women
...Show More Authors

Background: Asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) is
defined as isolation of a specified quantitative count
of bacteria in an appropriately collected urine
specimen from an individual without symptoms or
signs of urinary tract infection.
Aim of study: To evaluate the frequency of
bacteriuria according to age, pregnancy, and type II
diabetes mellitus in a sample of Iraqi women.
Patients and Methods: A total of 125 female
individuals were involved. The study participants
were classified into the following groups: nonpregnant
women with type II diabetes mellitus,
pregnant women with type II diabetes mellitus,
pregnant women without type II diabetes mellitus, and
apparently healthy non-pregnant women. Urine and
blood specimens were tested to record positive urine
culture, pyuria, and blood glucose according to
standard microbiological and biochemical methods.
Results: Frequency of positive urine culture and
pyuria in the total pregnant women was 7 (14%) and
15 (30%), respectively, whereas frequency of positive
urine culture and pyuria in the total diabetic women
was 8 (16%) and 23 (46%), respectively. The bacterial
isolation rate in the studied groups was 13 (10%). Ecoli
recorded the highest isolation rate, 6(5%). There
was no significant culture positive of urine specimens
in the groups of diabetic non-pregnant, diabetic
pregnant, and women with normal pregnancy (Pvalue<
0.05). Pregnant women with culture positive
urine and pyuria were more likely to have perinatal
mortality. Sterile pyuria was detected in pregnant
women aged 18-45, those in third trimester, and in
multiparous pregnant women. There was significant
positive urine culture and a highly significant pyuria
in diabetic women with BMI > 25.
Conclusions: Asymptomatic bacteriuria is an
independent risk factor for perinatal mortality. Sterile
pyuria is a significant observation in pregnant and
diabetic women; therefore it should bring more
attention.
Recommendations Treatment of asymptomatic
bacteriuria is appropriate for pregnant women but it is
not recommended for diabetics. The study advised to
perform urine culture as a part of the antenatal checkup
for pregnant women.

Fat Mass and Obesity Association gene Polymorphism in PCOS Iraqi Women
...Show More Authors

Polycystic syndrome (PCOS) is a considerable infertility disorder in adolescents and adult women in reproductive age. Obesity is a vigorous risk factor related to POCS.  This study aims to evaluate the association of obesity and PCOS by investigating several parameters including:  anthropological, biochemical (lipid profile, fasting blood sugar, glucose tolerance test, and hormone levels (LH, FSH, LH/FSH ratio, Estradiol2 and Testosterone),and genetic parameters (Fat mass and Obesity associated gene (FTO) polymorphism at rs17817449) in 63 obese and non-obese PCOS women. The biochemical tests were investigated by colorimetric methods while FTO gene polymorp

This study deals with thirty non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus patients suffering from diabetic nephropathy in addition to twenty five healthy control. Some biochemical parameters were determined in the serum of all subjects enrolled in the study. These parameters are serum glucose, serum urea, serum creatinine, total serum protein and serum albumin. The aim of the present study was to estimate these parameters in diabetic nephropathy patients. The results of the present study revealed a significant increase in glucose, urea and creatinine in patients as compared to controls . Also a significant decrease was found in total serum protein, serum albumin and albumin to globulin ratio (A/G) in patients compared to controls, whi

Methodology: ٨ quazi-experimental study was carried out to determine the effectiveness of the nutrition
education program upon the pregnant mother's nutritional knowledge. A non-probability "purposive sample" of
(60) pregnant mother was selected from Al-bayaa' Primary Health Care Center in Baghdad City. These mothers
were divided into two equal groups; study group and control group. A questionnaire was developed as a tool of
data collection for the purpose of the study. A pilot study and follow-up was carried out to test the reliability and

The Existential Psychological Crisis Among Battered Women to Non-Battered Women in the Republic of Yemen
...Show More Authors

The research deals with a very important issue that affects women, an important segment of the society. This is because women are the basis of the family and the pillar of the society. Thus, the aim of the research is to examine the level and dimensions of the emotional and existential psychological crisis at the sample of the study. It further aims to investigate the statistical significant difference at the level of (0.05) regarding the feeling of the existential psychological crisis among battered and non-battered women. To reveal the objectives of the study, the researcher applied the existential psychological crisis scale to a sample of (72) women, divided into two groups: (35) battered women, who have been chosen purposefully. Intratracheal Inoculation with Brucella melitensis in the Pregnant Guinea Pig Is an Improved Model for Reproductive Pathogenesis and Vaccine Studies
...Show More Authors

Reproductive failure is the hallmark of brucellosis in animals. An uncommon but important complication in pregnant women who become acutely infected withBrucella melitensisis spontaneous pregnancy loss or vertical transmission to the fetus. Unfortunately, the mechanism behind reproductive failure is still obscure, partially due to the lack of a proper study model. Recently, it was demonstrated that intratracheal (IT) inoculation of nonpregnant guinea pigs would replicate features of clinical disease in humans.

Study the role of CoQ10 and IGFBP-1 in obese male patients with diabetic mellitus type 2. ELISA method was used to assay Serum CoQ10 and IGFBP-1. Blood was taken with drawn sample from 30 obese normal patients with age range (40-60) years, 30 diabetic patients with age range (40-60) years at duration of disease (1-5) years and 30 normal healthy patients. The mean difference between T2DM according to CoQ10 (12.5±1.1) was decreased than the mean of IFG (21.8±3.2) (P 0.002) and the mean difference between T2DM according to IGFBPs (0.65±0.06) was decreased than the mean of IFG (3.2±0.3) (P 0.000). While no significant difference between mean age of DM2 patients (55.5±1.06), and IFG (55.6±0.9) (p 0.90), no significant difference bet
