Background: The first and second choice for vascular access in patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) is radio cephalic and brachio cephalic arteriovenous fistula (AVF).In patients with failed previous AVF e or poorly visualized or impalpable cephalic veins, the basilic vein can be mobilized and superficialized to create an AVF with the brachial artery.Objective: The aim of this study is to report our experience at the Vascular Surgery Department/ Surgical Specialty Hospital in brachio-basilic (BB) vascular access for hemodialysis.Methods: From January 2006 to December 2009, 31 patients with ESRD whose cephalic veins were thrombosed or impalpable or had previous unsuccessful vascular access procedures were referred to the Vascular Surgery Department/Surgical Specialty Hospital for creation of vascular access. Brachio - basilic mobilization AVF was offered to them. There were 20 females and 11 males. Their ages ranged from 12 to 70 years with a mean of 40. following a careful clinical assessment of the patients, particularly their upper limb superficial veins, Doppler study of both subclavian veins was done to all patients; those with a vein stenosis exceeding 40% were excluded from the study. All patients had mobilization of basilic vein under general anesthesia via a hooky racket incision on medial aspect of upper arm extending from the axilla to the antecubital fossa. The vein is tunneled subcutaneously and anastomosed end to side to brachial artery. The postoperative condition was monitored looking for any complication. The follow up period lasted for 6 months.Results: nineteen patients (61.3%) had left-sided operations. All fistulae except one functioned well primarily (a success rate of 96.8%). One patient had primary thrombosis of the fistula while another patient developed an aneurysm of the AVF 4 months after the operation. The remainder had a smooth non-complicated postoperative course. All fistulae matured and were ready for cannulation in 6 weeks and remained functioning during the 6 months of follow up.Conclusion:: Brachio-basilic AV fistula with anterior basilica vein mobilization is an acceptable option for dialysis with good success rate and fewer complications
Herbal remedies are used in induction of lactation. In view of that .Borage Officinalis was employed to ensure an abundant milk supply or rectify milk insufficiency .However, this remedy has not been scientifically tested .The animals were treated with the aqueous extract of Borage Officinalis flowers at a daily concentration of 100 mg / kg body weight /ml for each rat through Oro-gastric tube for 14 days. Animals were subdivided into subgroups according to their physiological status. Mammary glands of these animals were processed for histological, histochemical and immunohistochemical studies. Promastigotes cultured in RPMI-1640 showed maximal growth rate after (2, 4, 6) days of cultivation (27.26 ± 0.05), (172.20 ± 0.1) and (343.81 ± 1.48) million parasites / ml for each day respectively, while P-Y media gave the highest mean of growth rat after (8 and 10) days of cultivation (307.16 ± 1.67) and (303.5 ± 4.96) million parasites / ml for each day respectively. P-Y medium showed the maximal percentage of viability after (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10) days of cultivation (99.76 ± 0.5) %, (98.30 ± 0.17) %, (96.1 ± 0.1) %, (92.5 ± 0.52) % and (87.26 ± 0.05) % for each day respectively.

In 2010, the tomato leaf miner Tuta absoluta (Meyrick, 1917) was reported for the first time in Iraq. The larvae can feed on all parts of tomato plants and can damage all the growth stages. The main host plant is tomato, Lycopersicon esculentum, but it can also attack other plants in Solanaceae family. In this study it was found attacking alfalfa plants, Medicago sativa in Baghdad Province. This finding reveals that alfalfa also serves as a host plant for T. absoluta in Iraq.

The research Compared two methods for estimating fourparametersof the compound exponential Weibull - Poisson distribution which are the maximum likelihood method and the Downhill Simplex algorithm. Depending on two data cases, the first one assumed the original data (Non-polluting), while the second one assumeddata contamination. Simulation experimentswere conducted for different sample sizes and initial values of parameters and under different levels of contamination. Downhill Simplex algorithm was found to be the best method for in the estimation of the parameters, the probability function and the reliability function of the compound distribution in cases of natural and contaminateddata.
