Background: Guillain Barré syndrome is an acute inflammatory demyelinating disease of the peripheral nerves. Its synonyms are: acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy, idiopathic polyneuritis, acute infective polyneuropathy and post infections polyneuritis. Objectives: We attempt to study the clinical presentations and complications in patients with GBS who were admitted to children welfare Teaching Hospital and to compare the results with the other studies.Type of the study: A retrospective study.Methods: A study done on seventy patients with GBS who were admitted to children Welfare Teaching Hospital in Medical City-Baghdad from different parts of Iraq between January 2002-December 2006.Results: Forty (57.14%) of them were males and 30(42.86%) were females, a male to female ratio 1.33:1. There were more cases during winter months. Antecedent events were found in 44 patients (62.86%),26 patients (37.14%) had no history of antecedent events. It was found that 24 patients (34.3%) had only bilateral lower limbs weakness and 46 patients (65.7%) had both bilateral lower and upper limbs weakness. Sensory manifestations occurred in 35 patients (50%). Cranial nerves involvement was observed in 25 patients (35.7%). Autonomic nerves involvement was observed in 9 patients (12.9%). Respiratory muscles were involved in 20 patients (28.6%), 11 patients (15.7%) were admitted to the RCU and needed ventilator setting, 3 patients (4.28%) died in RCU. The results were compared with similar studies from other parts of the world.Conclusions: This study showed that there is no specific pattern of motor weakness involvement and all cases show symmetrical muscle weakness.Bulbar nerves (glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves) involvement is the commonest cranial nerve involvements.Autonomic nerves involvement and respiratory muscles involvement are the main cause of death in GBS. GBS patients should be admitted to the hospital and RCU with ventilator setting should be available along with well trained medical staff. Because the disease may run a prolonged course, we recommend close follow up of the patient to see the end result at that time.
Secnidazole was linked with ciprofloxacin as mutual prodrugs to get antibiotics with broader spectrum of activity, improved physicochemical properties and given by single dose to improve patient’s compliance. Furthermore, they provide structural modifications to overcome bacterial adaptation. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed using FT-IR, mass spectrometry, elemental microanalysis (CHNO) and some physiochemical properties. This modification was led to an increase in Log P values for Mutual I (Log P 1.114) and Mutual II (Log P 1.97) compared with its values for Secnidazole (Log P -0.373) and ciprofloxacin (Log P -0.832). A Mini-TEA CO2 laser system was designed and operated to obtain a pulse at 10.6 μm. Output energy of 30 mJ, with preionization pins, and pulse duration of 100ns were obtained. While an output energy of 6mJ and pulse duration of 100 ns in absence of pre-ionization were obtained. The system was operated with Ernest profile main-discharge electrodes. Dependencies of supply voltage and output laser energy on the pressure inside laser cavity were investigated as well as dependencies of supply voltage and output energy on the main capacitor(8CO2 : 8N2 : 82He :2CO). Efficiency of was calculated to be 4.4%.

The effect of nitrogen fertilizer and the planting distance on growth and yield of the sunflower cultivar (Taka) was investigated. The experiment was conducted in the field using five nitrogen fertilizer levels (0, 50, 100, 150, 200) kg/donum and three planting distances (10, 20, 30) cm/plant. The experiment design was split-plot by using RCBD with four replicates. The level of fertilizer as the main plot, while the planting distance as the sub plot. In this study the assessment radon concentration in sludge of Oil
Fields in North Oil Company (N.O.C.) of Iraq have been studied
using CR-39 solid–state nuclear track detector technique. A total of
34 samples selected from 12 oil stations in the company have been
placed in the dosimeters. The average radon concentration was found
to be 162.29 Bq/m3 which is fortunately lower than the standard
international limit. The potential alpha energy concentration and
annual effective dose have been calculated. A proportional
relationship between the annual effective dose and radon
concentration within the studied region has been certified.
