Assessment of efficacy and safety of dapsone gel 5% in the treatment of acne vulgaris
...Show More Authors

ABSTRACTBackground : Acne vulgaris is a
common skin disease, affecting more than 85% of
adolescents and often continuing into adulthood.
People between 11 and 30 years of age and up to
5% of older adults. For most patients acne remains
a nuisance with occasional flares of unsightly
comedones, pustules and nodules. For other less
fortunate persons, the sever inflammatory response
to Propionibacterium acnes (P.acnes) results in
permanent
Methods: Disfiguring scars. (1, 2) Stigmata of sever
acne cane lead to social ostracism, withdrawal
from society and severe psychologic
depression (1-4).
Result Pathogenesis of acne Traditionally, acne
has been thought of as a multifactorial disease of
the folliculosebaceous unit, involving excess
sebum production, abnormal follicular
hyperkeratinization, overgrowth of
Propionibacterium acnes, and inflammation (Fig
2). Recent laboratory and clinical investigations
into the roles of the innate immune system and
extracellular matrix remodeling proteins have shed
additional light on this pathogenetic process (5-7).
Role of androgens: Activity of type 1 5areductase
enzyme was shown to predominate in
human sebaceous glands and epidermis. This
enzyme is responsible for the conversion of
testosterone to the more potent androgen,
dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT in turn is thought
to mediate androgen dependent skin diseases such
as acne, hirsutism and androgenetic alopecia (13)
The enzyme 5a-reductase type 1 has been studied
in those with and without acne and it has been
hypothesized that those with acne might have more
active 5a-reductase type 1 .(2)
Conclusion : The prominent role of hormones in
the pathophysiology of acne has long been
recognized and corroborated by clinical and
experimental observations and therapeutic
experience (14). Although acne is not considered a
primary endocrine disorder, androgens, such as
dihydrotestosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone
sulfate, and testosterone, and growth hormone and
insulin-like growth factors, have all been
implicated in the pathogenesis of acne (15).

The effect of ER: YAG laser on enamel resistance to caries during orthodontic treatment: An in vitro study
...Show More Authors

Background: One common undesirable side effect of orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances is the development of incipient caries lesions around brackets, particularly in patients with poor oral hygiene. Different methods have been used to prevent demineralization; the recent effort to improve the resistance against the demineralization is by the application of lasers. Materials and method: Thirty human premolars extracted for orthodontic purposes were used to test the effect of two energy level of ER-YAG laser on enamel resistance to demineralization. The brackets were bonded on the teeth and all the labial surface excluding 2 mm area gingival to the brackets were painted with acid resistance varnish. Three groups were generated. The fi

Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the roots of the maxillary posterior teeth and the maxillary sinus using spiral computed tomography, and measured the distances between the roots of the maxillary posterior teeth and the sinus floor. Materials and Methods: The sample of the present study was a total of 120 Iraqi subject (60 males & 60 females) aged (20-60) years old, who admitted to spiral Computed Tomography scan unit in AL-Zahraa hospital in AL-Kut city to have Computed Tomography scan of the brain and paranasal sinuses who had complaints of headaches or with suspicion of sinusitis but without pathological findings in maxillary sinuses. From November 2012 to April 2013, CT sagittal reconstruc

Effect of surface treatment of zirconia-ceramic dental restorations
...Show More Authors

The zirconia ceramic restoration (ZCR) is used as substitutes for the metal-ceramic restoration. Clinical studies demonstrating of ZCRs showed a high fracture incidence of veneering layer than metal-ceramic restorations. This attributed to the low bond strength of zirconia to veneering ceramic as a result of lacking of glass content in its matrix. Surface treatment was proposed to improve the bonding strength between zirconia and veneering ceramic. Several studies revealed that some treatment such as airborne particle abrasion (APA) is responsible for generating chipping of veneering ceramic. The study aimed to develop a new zirconia coatings to increase bonding strength between zirconia substrate and veneering porcelain. Three groups of 15

Hyperpigmentation is the increase in the natural color of the skin. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Q-Switched Nd:YAG (1064 & 532 nm) Laser in treatment of skin hyper pigmentation. This study was done in the research clinic of Institute of laser for postgraduate Studies/University of Baghdad from October 2008 to the end of January 2009. After clinical assessment of skin hyperpigmentation color, twenty six patients were divided according to their lesions. Eight Patients with freckles, seven patients with melasma, four patients with tattoo. Cases with tattoo, were subdivided into amateur tattoos two, professional tattoos one, and one traumatic tattoo. Four Patients with post inflammatory hyperpigment

Treatment of Waste Paper Using Ultrasound and Sodium Hydroxide for Bioethanol Production
...Show More Authors

Bioethanol produced from lignocellulose feedstock is a renewable substitute to declining fossil fuels. Pretreatment using ultrasound assisted alkaline was investigated to enhance the enzyme digestibility of waste paper. The pretreatment was conducted over a wide range of conditions including waste paper concentrations of 1-5%, reaction time of 10-30 min and temperatures of 30-70°C. The optimum conditions were 4 % substrate loading with 25 min treatment time at 60°C where maximum reducing sugar obtained was 1.89 g/L. Hydrolysis process was conducted with a crude cellulolytic enzymes produced by Cellulomonas uda (PTCC 1259).The maximum amount of sugar released and hydrolysis efficiency were 20.92 g/L and 78.4 %, respectively. This study examined >140 relevant publications from the last few years (2018–2021). In this study, classification was reviewed depending on the operation's progress. Electrocoagulation (EC), electrooxidation (EO), electroflotation (EF), electrodialysis (ED), and electro-Fenton (EFN) processes have received considerable attention. The type of action (individual or hybrid) for each electrochemical procedure was evaluated, and statistical analysis was performed to compare them as a new manner of reviewing cited papers providing a massive amount of information efficiently to the readers. Individual or hybrid operation progress of the electrochemical techniques is critical issues. Their design, operation, and maintenance costs vary depending o
