Datura stramoium Extract Inhibits Mitosis in Cancer Cells
...Show More Authors

The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti mitotic activity of ether extract prepared from Datura stramoium plant on cancer cells.  Recently oncology studies are directed toward substances which act somehow to induce apoptosis or to prevent abnormal dividing of cell, that may provide therapeutic strategies for the treatment of cancer. Thus, many research on various types of plants such as fruits, vegetables, other editable plants and toxic plants have been done in vitro and in vivo. But, few studies on Datura plant were occurred and there was no previous study dealing with its effect on proliferative activity of cancer cells.  In current study, two types of common malignant tumor were tested in vitro. These were mammary cancer and glioma. The cancer cells were exposed to various concentration of ether extract of Datura stramoium 1000, 1250, 1500 g/ml. Then percentage of mitotic indexes were estimated.  The results exhibited that there were decreases in percentages of mitotic index in both types of cancer cells. However, the decrement was significant in the mammary cancer and insignificant in glioma cell line.

Diagnosis the Breast Cancer using Bayesian Rough Set Classifier
...Show More Authors

Breast cancer was one of the most common reasons for death among the women in the world. Limited awareness of the seriousness of this disease, shortage number of specialists in hospitals and waiting the diagnostic for a long period time that might increase the probability of expansion the injury cases. Consequently, various machine learning techniques have been formulated to decrease the time taken of decision making for diagnoses the breast cancer and that might minimize the mortality rate. The proposed system consists of two phases. Firstly, data pre-processing (data cleaning, selection) of the data mining are used in the breast cancer dataset taken from the University of California, Irvine machine learning repository in this stage we

Comparison of survival models to study determinants liver cancer

Cancer is one of the dangerous diseases that afflict a person through injury to cells and tissues in the body, where a person is vulnerable to infection in any age group, and it is not easy to control and multiply between cells and spread to the body. In spite of the great progress in medical studies interested in this aspect, the options for those with this disease are few and difficult, as they require significant financial costs for health services and for treatment that is difficult to provide.

This study dealt with the determinants of liver cancer by relying on the data of cancerous tumours taken from the Iraqi Center for Oncology in the Ministry of Health 2017. Survival analysis has been used as a m

Abstract A descriptive study to assess the quality of life (QOL) for patients with colorectal cancer. The study was conducted from Baghdad Teaching Hospital, Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital and Radiation Hospital and Nuclear medicine for the period from 1st July/2004 to 1st September/2004. The sample selected by purposive random of (50) patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer and all of them who were under chemotherapy treatment. A questionnaire was prepared for the purpose of the study and comprised of three parts including: 1- Socio-demographical characteristics. 2- Clinical characteristics. 3- and QOL

Assessment the Relation between Breast Cancer and Blood Group
...Show More Authors

Objectives: To assess the relation between breast cancer & blood groups, identify the importance of women
age group and the relation of age with breast cancer.
Methodology: The study was performed on (115) women who were diagnosed with breast cancer in different
stages of disease and different ages. Blood samples were taken from them to demonstrate their blood groups and
(20) fresh tumor tissue samples were obtained; the tumor tissue used as a source of lectin for hemagglutinate
with erythrocyte of different blood groups. The study conducted at Baghdad Teaching Hospital and Radiation &
Nuclear Medicine Hospital from January, 2007 through June 2007.
Results: The study shows that the highest percentage of women

G Protein-Coupled Receptors: Undervalued Targets for Cancer Therapy
...Show More Authors

Despite the G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) being the largest family of signalling proteins at the surface of cells, their potential to be targeted in cancer therapy is still under-utilised. This review highlights the contribution of these receptors to the process of oncogenesis and points to some likely challenges that might be encountered in targeting them. GPCR-signalling pathways are often complex and can be tissue-specific. Cancer cells hijack these communication networks to their proliferative advantage. The role of selected GPCRs in the different hallmarks of cancer is examined to highlight the complexity of targeting these receptors for therapeutic benefit. Our

Evaluation of the Genotoxicity of the Aerial Parts of Iraqi Euphorbia cyathophora on Bone Marrow and Spleen Cells in Mice
...Show More Authors

The aim of the study was extraction of arial part of Euphorbia cyathophora constituents with methanol and evaluate its effect on mitotic index and total chromosomal aberration bone marrow cell and spleen cell in mice  200 gm of E. cyathophora fine powder was defatted then extracted by cold maceration 80% ethanol for seven days. The extract was filtered and dried in a rotary evaporator then the dried extract was suspended with water and consecutively extracted using chloroform, ethyl acetate for each. The aqueous layer was then mixed with 100ml methanol. These fractions are dried under reduced pressure to obtain the dry extract. Twenty-four Albino mice were used for the experiment. The animals were divided into four groups: Gr

Evaluation of PARP-1 by immunohistochemistry in a sample of Iraqi patients with gastric cancer
...Show More Authors

PARP-1 is a protein enzyme with a major role in DNA repair that is overexpressed in many malignancies. It is correlated with susceptibility and metastasis to lymph nodes in gastric cancer (GC). The objective of the present investigation is to estimate PARP1 expression in patients with gastric cancer and detected if it could be used as a predictive marker. Furthermore, we aimed to find the correlation between PARP1 expression and clinicopathological parameters, such as gender, age, invasion depth, histopathological type, involvement of lymph nodes, grade, and stages of GC. This is a retrospective study from the period 2018-2020. Fifty randomly selected subjects (10 normal and 40 GC) were examined for formalin-fixe

Serum Pseudocholinesterase as a Biomarker in the Differentiation between Gastric Cancer and Benign Gastric Diseases
...Show More Authors

Background: Worldwide gastric cancer is the fifth most common cancer with poor prognosis. In early stages, it is hard to distinguish gastric cancer from benign gastric diseases, resulting in delayed diagnosis. There is a need to develop a biomarker for differentiating between gastric cancer and benign gastric diseases. Serum cholinesterase is synthesized in liver and released into plasma, and it has an important role in oncogenesis.

Objectives: To determine the correlation between serum cholinesterase activity and gastric cancer, in comparison to benign gastric diseases.

Subjects and Methods: A case control study carried out at Medical City Direct
