Determination of Magnesium, Zinc, and Reduced Glutathione Levels in Serum of Asthmatic Patients
...Show More Authors

Asthma  is a disease  characterized by hyper reactivity  of the trachea and   bronchi   to  reversible   either   spontaneously  or  as  a  result   of treatment.

In this study serum magnesium,  Zinc, and reduced glutathione  levels

were  meas ured  in  order  to  determine   their  levels  in  the  asthmatic patients and comparing  these levels with healthy controls.

Fifty-  four  asthmatic   patients  were  enrolled  in  the  study  and  had their pulmonary  function test, and the levels of Mg,Zn, and GSH.

Serum   magnesium   and  serum   zinc  were  determined   by  using Atomic  Absorption  Spectrophotometer . While serum glutathione was determined  by spectrophotometric analysis.

The asthmatic  patients were divided into four groups according  to the  interpretation of  the  pulmonary  function  test  : severe  expiratory flow limitation, moderate  expiratory  flow limitation  , slight expiratory flow limitation and normal lung values .

In  this  study,  it  was  found  that  serum  magnesium  levels  in  severe cases  of  asthmatic  patients  were significantly lower  than  the healthy control  population  (0.92 ± 0.17mmol  I L vs.l.O1  Â± 0.19 mmol/L; (p<

0.05 )] while  the other cases did not show  any significant  differences compared  with the healthy control .

As  for  serum   zinc  levels,  it  was  found   that  the  slight  cases  of asthmatic  patients  were  significantly  higher  than  the  healthy  control [   19.48  Â±  1.93   fl mol/L  vs.   17.01  Â±  2.94   fl  moi/L;  (P<0.05   )]. However,   the  other  cases  did  not  show  any  significant   differences compared  with healthy control.

While   serum   glutathione   levels   in  severe   and   slight   cases   of

asthmatic  patients were lower than the healthy control. [2.08 ± 0.51

mmol/L vs. 2.42 ± 0.21 mmol/L; (P< 0.001), and 1.95 ±0.36 mmol/ L

  1. 2.42± 0.21 mmol/L; (P< O.Ol)],respectively.

It was  found  that there  is  a  correlation  between  the  severity  of asthma   as   measured   by  pulmonary   function   test  and  levels  of magnesium  and glutathione  levels, the more severe one showed low levels of magnesium and glutathione .

Studying the Photodegradation of Congo Red Dye from Aqueous Solutions Using Bimetallic Au–Pd/TiO2 Photocatalyst
...Show More Authors

In this study, the photodegradation of Congo red dye (CR) in aqueous solution was investigated using Au-Pd/TiO2 as photocatalyst. The concentration of dye, dosage of photocatalyst, amount of H2O2, pH of the medium and temperature were examined to find the optimum values of these parameters. It has been found that 28 ppm was the best dye concentration. The optimum amount of photocatalyst was 0.09 g/75 mL of dye solution when the degradation percent was ~ 96 % after irradiation time of 12 hours, while the best amount of hydrogen peroxide was 7μl/75 mL of dye solution at degradation percent ~97 % after irradiation time of 10 hours, whereas pH 5 was the best value to carry out the reaction at the highest degradation percent. In additio

Performance Evaluation of the Investment Projects during the Implementation Phase (Najaf province as a case study)
...Show More Authors

The construction project is a very complicated work by its nature and requires specialized knowledge to lead it to success. The construction project is complicated socially, technically and economically in its planning, management and implementation aspects due to the fact that it has many variables and multiple stakeholders in addition to being affected by the surrounding environment. Successful projects depend on three fundamental points which are cost-time, performance and specifications. The project stakeholder's objective to achieve best specifications and the cost-time frame stipulated in the contract.

The question is, was the optimum implementation accomplished? The provision for the success of the project

Hysterothylacium  is one of the most important nematode parasites parasitizing fish, and it's the most diverse species nematodes of marine parasites, these species attach to the intestinal wall via their mouth lips adaptation. In the present study, seven out of 56 fish specimens (12.5 %) were found to be infected by the adult worms of Greasy grouper fishes Orangespotted  grouper Epinephelus coioides (Forsskål, 1775)from locations of marine coastal water, Arabian Gulf, Iraq. A new recorded of Hysterothylacium spp. collected are morphologically described, genetically and  Sccaning Electron Microscope (SEM)  images for new systematic observations, on dorsal labium, su

Simulation of passively Q-switched rate equation using saturable crystal Dy +2: CaF2 with ruby laser
...Show More Authors

The simulation of passively Q-switching is four non – linear first order differential equations. The optimization of passively Q-switching simulation was carried out using the constrained Rosenbrock technique. The maximization option in this technique was utilized to the fourth equation as an objective function; the parameters, γa, γc and β as were dealt with as decision variables. A FORTRAN program was written to determine the optimum values of the decision variables through the simulation of the four coupled equations, for ruby laser Q–switched by Dy +2: CaF2.For different Dy +2:CaF2 molecules number, the values of decision variables was predicted using our written program. The relaxation time of Dy +2: CaF2, used with ruby was

Unified Modelling Language (UML) Effect on the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for a Software Development
...Show More Authors

UML (Unfiled Modeling Language), known as the standard method for object-oriented (analysis and design) modeling, includes other languages which enables it to implement a prototype of the structure and behaviors of the product. This paper attempts to explore the observations about UML role on the cost of software maintenance, and hence on the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of a software product. It is therefore important to investigate the benefits obtained through modeling..

Idiomatic expressions in Russian journalism make one important borrowed means for making a dialogue with the receiver's intellect in so far as it has the distinct feature of  having clarity and exactness of meaning. The meaning is seen as a shortcut for covering a series of concepts and details so as to arrive at the intended meaning. This is done by stimulating the reader by the use of certain clear idioms. The use of such idioms in a journalistic text is not for a linguistic purpose only, but it is a cultural and social phenomenon reflecting the type of current changes in the society and it aims at discoursing with the reader's mind. This paper is a practi

Numerical Simulation of Magnetohydrodynamic Influences on Casson Model for Blood Flow through an Overlapping Stenosed Artery
...Show More Authors

Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) effects of unsteady blood flow on Casson fluid through an artery with overlapping stenosis were investigated. The nonlinear governing equations accompanied by the appropriate boundary conditions were discretized and solved based on a finite difference technique, using the pressure correction method with MAC algorithm. Moreover, blood flow characteristics, such as the velocity profile, pressure drop, wall shear stress, and patterns of streamlines, are presented graphically and inspected thoroughly for understanding the blood flow phenomena in the stenosed artery.
