Various activities taking place within the city of Baghdad have significantly contributed to organic pollution in Rivers Tigris and Diyala. The present study aimed to assess some physical, chemical and biological aspects of six sites on Rivers Tigris and Diyala as they flow through the city of Baghdad. Monthly samples were collected for the period January to December, 2005. Marked differences in the physical and chemical characteristics of water were noted between the two rivers’ sites. Filed experiment was conducted to test the effect of saline water and potassium fertilizers rate on proline and water potential of Pisum sativum L. (Var.Senador Cambados ) leaves . Treatments of the experiment included two levels of water salinity( 2, 7 dSm-1) as a main plot and fertilizer rates as a sub plot.   The study was designed to invetigate the effect of two plant growth regulators (GA3 and IAA)on growth and leaves volatile oils of sweet basil .      The plants were treated with 200ppm concentration for each of the bove regulators after 2 monthes  of planting ,after 2weeks of the first treatment and after month of the first treatment .     The results showed an increase in plant height 25,35% ,number of large leaves 20,40% and percentage of volatile oils 200,100%respectively after one month of first treatment.
