       Measurement of ²³⁸U, ²³³Th and ⁴⁰K concentrations in soil samples collected from Ziggurat of Dur-Kurigalzu west region of Baghdad, have been evaluated, using high purity germanium detector. The activity concentrations of ²³⁸U, ²³³Th and ⁴⁰K varied from 16.040  to 26.620 , 14.510  to 31.480 , and 153.820  to 266.320  with average values of 20.604±2.9 , 24.534±3.3 , 212.22±25.1 , respectively. In this paper, the ability of using corn leaves as low-cost natural biowaste adsorbent material for the removal of Indigo Carmen (IC) dye was studied. Batch mode system was used to study several parameters such as, contact time (4 days), concentration of dye (10-50) ppm, adsorbent dosage (0.05-0.25) gram, pH (2-12) and temperature (30-60) ^oC. The corn leaf was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy device before and after the adsorption process of the IC dye and scanning electron microscope device was used to find the morphology of the adsorbent material. The inhibitive action of pomegranate peel as a plant source the corrosion of carbon-steel in phosphoric acid solutions was studied using the weight-loss method. Organic compounds present in natural materials are successfully used to reduce the rate of corrosion because they are cheap, renewable and effective. The results showed that the inhibition potency was enhanced with increasing increasing the amount of the inhibitor and the immersion time but it decreased with the increase of the concentration of the acid solution. The results also revealed a gradual increase in the corrosion rate with the increase of temperature, while the corrosion protection efficiency and surface coverage decreased.

Frequently, load associated mode of failure, rutting and fatigue, are the main failure types found in some newly constructed roads within Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, and some suburban areas.
