From Passive Learning to Critical Thinking
...Show More Authors

Many Iraqi students are reluctant to actively participate in the English
language classroom. This reluctance is attributed to a number of factors, above which
is students' lack of thinking skills necessary to express their points of view. This
eventually results in passive learning, a real problem in English language learning in
Iraq.
A need for educational reforms and innovations seems essential. These involve
developing relevant teaching materials, adopting learner-centered approach,
promoting learner autonomy, and enhancing critical thinking.
This study is hoped to assist teachers of English to initiate change and foster
the expansion of thinking, and adopt various new strategies to increase classroom
participation. The paper also aims to enable Iraqi students to be active thinkers rather
than passive attendees.

An attempt to Stimulate lipids for Biodiesel Production from locally Isolated Microalgae in Iraq
...Show More Authors

Two locally isolated microalgae (Chlorella vulgaris Bejerinck and Nitzschia palea (Kützing) W. Smith) were used in the current study to test their ability to production biodiesel through stimulated in different nitrogen concentration treatments (0, 2, 4, 8 gl ), and effect of nitrogen concentration on the quantity of primary product (carbohydrate, protein ), also the quantity and quality of lipid. The results revealed that starvation of nitrogen led to high lipid yielding, in C. vulgaris and N. palea the lipid content increased from 6.6% to 40% and 40% to 60% of dry weight (DW) respectively. Also in C. vulgaris, the highest carbohydrate was 23% of DW from zero nitrate medium and the highest protein was 50% of DW in the treatment 8gl. Whil

Efficient Method to Segment Objects from Images Based on Enhanced Connected Component Labeling algorithm
...Show More Authors

This paper include the problem of segmenting an image into regions represent (objects), segment this object by define boundary between two regions using a connected component labeling. Then develop an efficient segmentation algorithm based on this method, to apply the algorithm to image segmentation using different kinds of images, this algorithm consist four steps at the first step convert the image gray level the are applied on the image, these images then in the second step convert to binary image, edge detection using Canny edge detection in third Are applie the final step is images. Best segmentation rates are (90%) obtained when using the developed algorithm compared with (77%) which are obtained using (ccl) before enhancement.

Deep Convolutional Neural Network Architecture to Detect COVID-19 from Chest X-Ray Images
...Show More Authors

Today, the world is living in a time of epidemic diseases that spread unnaturally and infect and kill millions of people worldwide. The COVID-19 virus, which is one of the most well-known epidemic diseases currently spreading, has killed more than six million people as of May 2022. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after an outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 infection. COVID-19 is a severe and potentially fatal respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which was first noticed at the end of 2019 in Wuhan city. Artificial intelligence plays a meaningful role in analyzing medical images and giving accurate results that serve healthcare workers, especially X-ray images, which are co
