Silence as a Means of Communication in Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker

Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker(1959) clearly portrays a lack of communication among the characters of the play which refers to the condition of modern man. This failure of communication led Harold Pinter to use a lot of pauses and silences in all the plays he wrote instead of words. Samuel Beckett preceded Pinter in doing so in his plays and one way to express the bewilderment of modern man during the 20th century is through the use of no language in the dramatic works. Language is no more important to modern man; instead, he uses silence to express his feelings. Silence is more powerful than the words themselves. That’s why long and short pauses can be seen throughout all Pinter’s plays.

In this play, the characters choose not to communicate; instead, they keep silent because they fail to interact with each other or even with themselves. That is the condition of modern man in which there is no place for such things like understanding or even sharing and this could be one reason behind the physical absence of female figures in this play. Pauses are used to portray the concept that language is a vague and meaningless tool people use to hide their own discomfort. The pauses indicate that to fill the silent gap a person must think about what they are going to say to fill it. More can be said during the pauses and silences than in the actual dialogue.

Determination of the Time and Coordinates Required for Measuring the Milky Way’s Rotation Curve Using BURT in 2023

Baghdad University Radio Telescope (BURT) is a 3 meter radio telescope that was installed in the main campus of the University of Baghdad in Jadiriyah. Radio telescopes, in general, offer a wide range of applications in radio astronomy, which are usually used to detect the neutral hydrogen emission line at a wavelength of 21 cm. One of the key applications of BURT is to observe the Milky Way galaxy and to determine its rotation curve. However, performing such observations requires accurate determination of the appropriate observing time as well as the coordinates. This paper focuses on how the observing time and coordinates are calculated correctly and accurately. The horizontal coordinate that corresponds to the galactic coor

CFIA-ISNAG fluorimeter for the Determination of Bromhexine-HCl in Drugs via the Measurement Scattered Light at ± 90˚

A precise, simple, and accurate continuous flow injection technique was used for the instantaneous estimation of bromhexine hydrochloride (BH-HCl) in tablet dosage form. The chemical and physical parameters of the reaction of BH-HCl with tetraphenylborate to produce a yellowish-white precipitate were determined using an ISNAG fluorimeter analyzer and diverging light at 90°. The calibration curve for BH-HCl was linear with correlation coefficients of 0.9994 and linearity percentage r2% = 99.87 over a concentration range of 0.01-20 mmol/L, L.O.D = 0.3610 µg/125µL (0.007 mmol/L), and RSD% less than 0.3% for 3 and 13 mmol/L (five replicates). This approach was efficiently used to estimate the levels of BH-HCl in two distinct pharmaceutica

Elastic Electron Scattering From 52Cr, 58Fe and 64Ni Nuclei in the Framework of the Coherent Density Fluctuation Model

Coherent density fluctuation model (CDFM) has been used to calculate the
proton momentum distributions (PMD) and elastic electron scattering form factors,
F(q), of the ground state for some even mass nuclei of fp-shell, such as 52Cr, 58Fe and
64Ni nuclei. Both of the PMD and F(q) have been expressed in terms of the weight
function ( ( ) )
2
f x which is determined by means of the charge density
distributions (CDD) of the nuclei and determined from theory and experiment. The
feature of the long-tail behavior at high momentum region of the PMD’s has been
obtained by both the theoretical and experimental weight functions. The calculated
form factors of these nuclei are in reasonable agreement with those of th

Analysis the effect of economic conditions on the vegetative change in Baghdad using GIS and remote sensing techniques

The study of vegetative change of cities is one of the most important studies related to human life because of its direct correlation with the temporal conditions that occur. These include the economic problems that force people to move and look for job opportunities in the city, which leads to an increase in the population density of cities, especially for cities with an important economic and administrative location as in the capital city of Baghdad. In this study, the effect of the increasing in population density was analyzed on the urban planning of Baghdad city. The decreasing in vegetation was due to the increasing of urban areas on the outskirts of the city, which led to an increase in its area. Moreover, urban cities increased t

Crude Oil Analyses of the Yamama Formation in the Subbah, Ratawi, Tuba and Luhis Oil Fields, Southern Iraq

It is evident from this study that Yamama Formation is reservoir rocks and source rocks at the same time, based on occurrences of crude oil and source rocks. Bulk properties of Yamama oil in six wells as well as comparing several samples of Yamama oil by using the biological mark have indicated multi source of hydrocarbons with some pay having Jurassic and Lower Cretaceouse source affinity that belongs to the Yamama Formation.

Trends in Media Discourse during International Crises: An Analytical Study of the US Withdrawal from the Nuclear Deal

The research focuses on the withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear agreement signed between the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and the Islamic Republic of Iran concerning its nuclear program. This withdrawal has caused disruption in the official media discourse of the concerned countries. Therefore, the main question can be posed: Are there differences in the positions of countries related to the nuclear agreement, as well as those countries affected by it, before and after the official withdrawal of the United States on May 8, 2018?
The research aims to shed light on the trends in media discourse of the countries that signed the nuclear agreement and those affected by it b

Predicting the Depositional Environments of Mishrif Formation from Seismic Isopach Map in the Dujaila Oil Field, Southeast-Iraq:

In this paper, we attempt to predict the depositional environments with associated lithofacies of the main reservoir of the late Cretaceous Mishrif carbonate Formation, depending on the analysis of the created seismic isopach map by integrating seismic and well data. The isopach map was created from a 3D-seismic reflection survey carried out at the Dujaila oil field in southeastern Iraq, which is of an area of 602.26 Km2, and integrated with the data of the two explored wells. Based on the interpretation of the seismic isopach map, the diagram of the 3D-depositional environment model of Mishrif Formation was constructed. It showed three distinguished depositional environments, which were graduated from a back reef lithofacies of a shallo

The Periodontal Pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis Preferentially Interacts with Oral Epithelial Cells in S Phase of the Cell Cycle
ABSTRACT
<named-content content-type="genus-species">Porphyromonas gingivalis</named-content> , a key periodontal pathogen, is capable of invading a variety of cells, including oral keratinocytes, by exploiting host cell receptors, including alpha-5 beta-1 (α5β1) integrin. Previous studies have shown that <named-content content-type="genus-species">P. gingivalis</named-content> accelerates the cell cycle and prevents apoptosis of host cells, but it is not known whether the cell cycle phases influence bacterium-cell interactions. The cell cycle distribution of oral keratinocytes was characterized by flow cytometry and BrdU (5-bro
... Show More
