Evaluation Of Stainless Steel Intermaxillary Fixation Screws In Treatment Of Favorable Mandibular Fractures
...Show More Authors

Background: Numerous methods have been described for achievement of Intermaxillary fixation in the treatment of fractures of facial skeleton. Conventional methods like Erich arch bars and eyelet wires are currently the most common methods for achieving intermaxillary fixation (IMF), however, they have their own disadvantages. Since 1989, IMF using intraoral self-tapping IMF screws has been introduced for treatment of mandibular fractures. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy, advantages, disadvantages and potential complications associated with using of self-tapping IMF screws in the treatment of mandibular fractures. Material and Methods: Twenty patients with favorable mandibular fractures, attended to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery unit, AL-yarmuk Teaching Hospital between November 2014 and October 2015, they were treated with IMF screws. The parameters considered were duration of the procedure, perforations in the gloves, patient acceptance, oral hygiene, iatrogenic dental injuries, mouth opening, healing outcome, occlusal discrepancy and needle stick injuries during IMF. Results: The patients included in this study were 20 (17 males and 3 females). The extremes of age in this study ranged from 12 to 37 years. Three patients had 2 fracture lines. Assault was the most common cause of fractures. The most common site of fracture was the body and parasymphysis regions. Two screws (2.5%) from 80 screws became loosened. One patient (5%) ended with malunion and malocclusion. One patient (5%) developed infection at screw site. Three patients (15%) developed screws soft tissue burying. Conclusion: IMF screws considered to be a useful modality of treatment to establish maxillomandibular fixation. It is safe, and time-sparing technique; however, it is not without limitations or potential consequences in which the surgeon must be aware of in order to provide safe and effective treatment.

Effect of platelet rich-fibrin on alveolar osteitis incidence following surgical removal of impacted mandibular third molars: A comparative study
...Show More Authors

Background: Postoperative morbidity after extraction of the impacted mandibular third molar (IMTM) is inevitable. One of the most common postoperative complication is alveolar osteitis (AO) which is a painful non healed socket. Many researches were attempted to prevent the occurrence of AO by introducing and applying a new materials inside the extraction socket. Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) is a biological complex fibrin matrix where autologous platelets and leucocytes are present, used to enhance tissue healing process and reduce the early adverse effects of the inflammation. Aims: To evaluate the effect of PRF on the incidence of AO. Also to assess PRF effect on pain, swelling, and trismus following the surgical removal of IMTM and

Effect of Bifidobacterium Probiotic in the Treatment of Giardiasis Infection in Mice
...Show More Authors

Metronidazole therapy is recommended in the treatment of giardiasis, athough some clinical reports mention the resistance to this drug from many pathogens. Many studies were applied to show the effect of probiotic to prevent or to heal diseases of gastrointestine, but only few is known about probiotic activity against infections of protozoa. This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of Bifidobacterium against infection with Giardia lamblia   in experimental mice. It was found that daily application of viable Bifidobacterium cells with a single dose (0.1ml∕mice∕day) significantly reduced the shedding of Giardia lamblia parasite cysts in feces, and infection completely disappeared at the da

Weldability of New Material Sandwich Steel for Automotive Applications
...Show More Authors

Todays, World is faced an energy crisis because of a continuous increasing the consumption of fuels due to intension demand for all types of vehicles. This study is one of the efforts dealing with reduce the weight of vehicles by using a new material of sandwich steel, which consists of two skin steel sheets with core of a polymer material. Resistance spot welding (RSW) can be easily implemented on metals; however a cupper shunt tool was designed to perform the resistance welding of sandwich steel with DP800 cover sheets to resolve a non-conductivity problem of a polymer core. Numerical simulations with SORPAS®3D were employed to test the weldability of this new material and supported by many practical experiments. In conclus

Wear Rate and Hardness of Boride Low Carbon Steel
...Show More Authors

There are no single materials which can withstand all the extreme operating conditions in modern technology.  Protection of the metals from hostile environments has therefore become a technical and economic necessity.

In this work, for enhancing their wear-resistance, boride layers were deposited on the surface of low carbon steel by a pack cementation method at 850 °C for (2, 4, and 6) h using vacuum furnace. The boronizing process was achieved using different concentration of boron source (20, 25, and 30) % wt. into coating mixture to optimize the best conditions which ensure the higher properties with lower time. The coating was characteristic by X ray diffraction (XRD), and it is confirmed t

Serviceability Performance of Externally Prestressed Steel-Concrete Composite Girders
...Show More Authors

The behavior of externally prestressed composite beams under short term loading has been studied. A computer program developed originally by Oukaili to evaluate curvature is modified to evaluate the deflection of prestressed composite beam under flexural load. The analysis model based on the deformation compatibility of entire structure that allows to determine the full history of strain and stress distribution along cross section depth, deflection and stress increment in the external tendons .
The evaluation of curvatures for the composite beam involves iterations for computing the strains vectors at each node at any loading stage. The stress increment determined using equations depended on the member deflection at points of connecti
