Effect of Mouth Rinses on Surface Roughness of Two Methacrylate-Based and Siloraine-Based Composite Resins
...Show More Authors

Background: Various fluids in the oral environment can affect the surface roughness of resin composites. This in vitro study was conducted to determine the influence of the mouth rinses on surface roughness of two methacrylate-based resin (nanofilled and packable composite) and siloraine-based resin composites.

Materials and methods: Disc-shaped specimens (12 mm in diameter and 2mm in height) were prepared from three types of composite resin materials: Filtek™ Z350 XT, Filtek™ P60 and Filtek™ P90.Thirty specimens were prepared from each composite type and subdivided into three subgroups (n=10) according to the type of treatment solution: distilled water (control), Listerine (alcohol-containing), Sensodyne Pronamel (alcohol free fluoride- containing). Each subgroup was immersed in 20 ml of treatment solutions and incubated at 37°C for 24 hr and then subjected to surface roughness test by profilometer .The resulting data were statistically analyzed using ANOVA and LSD test at0.05 significance level.

Results: The results of this study showed that both mouth rinses irrespective of the presence or absence of alcohol resulted in significant increase in the surface roughness of the tested resin composite materials compared to control with no significant difference between the two mouth rinses. Comparison among the three types of resin in each treatment solution showed that there was a statistically high significant difference in surface roughness between all subgroups

Conclusion: Both alcohol-containing and alcohol-free fluoride containing mouth rinses cause highly significant increase in surface roughness of composite resins. Composite changes depended on the material itself rather than the mouth rinse solution used.

Key words: Composite resin, mouth rinses, siloraine, surfaces roughness.

Particle swarm optimization technique-based prediction of peak ground acceleration of Iraq’s tectonic regions
...Show More Authors

Peak ground acceleration (PGA) is one of the critical factors that affect the determination of earthquake intensity. PGA is generally utilized to describe ground motion in a particular zone and is able to efficiently predict the parameters of site ground motion for the design of engineering structures. Therefore, novel models are developed to forecast PGA in the case of the Iraqi database, which utilizes the particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach. A data set of 187 historical ground-motion recordings in Iraq’s tectonic regions was used to build the explicit proposed models. The proposed PGA models relate to different seismic parameters, including the magnitude of the earthquake (Mw), average shear-wave velocity (VS30), focal depth (FD

A Control Program for Hydropower Operation Based on Minimizing the Principal Stress Values on the Dam Body: Mosul Dam Case Study
...Show More Authors

This study examines the vibrations produced by hydropower operations to improve embankment dam safety. This study consists of two parts: In the first part, ANSYS-CFX was used to generate a three-dimensional (3-D) finite volume (FV) model to simulate a vertical Francis turbine unit in the Mosul hydropower plant. The pressure pattern result of the turbine model was transformed into the dam body to show how the turbine unit's operation affects the dam's stability. The upstream reservoir conditions, various flow rates, and fully open inlet gates were considered. In the second part of this study, a 3-D FE Mosul dam model was simulated using an ANSYS program. The operational turbine model's water pressure pattern is conveyed t

Influence of Optical Fiber Diameters on the Performance of Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor
...Show More Authors

In this research, a sensor for chemical solutions was designed and formed using optical fiber-based on a surface Plasmon resonance technology. A single-mode optical fiber with three different diameters (25, 45 and 65) µm was used, respectively.  The second layer of the low refractive fiber was replaced by gold, which was electrically deposited at 40 µm thickness. For each of the three types of optical fiber, different saline concentrations (different index of refraction) were used to evaluate the performance of the refractive index sensor (chemical sensor) by measuring its sensitivity and resolutions. The highest values we could get for these two parameters were 240mm/RIU, and 6*10-5 RIU respectively, when the diameter of a

Processing the Extracted Tooth to Graft the Fresh Socket (Split Mouth Prospective Clinical Study)
...Show More Authors

Background: The dimensional change of alveolar ridge is normal effect of teeth extraction, with unfavourable functional and esthetical outcomes that might jeopardize implant placement. To reduce the biological effects of the dimensional changes of alveolar ridge, various surgical procedures have been recommended, called alveolar ridge preservation. In the previous decade, autogenously teeth have been proposed as bone graft substitution in fresh extraction socket with successful results, yet with various preparation protocols. Aim: Evaluate the formation of new bone derived from the freshly extracted teeth that are grafted immediately in the post extraction sockets, in comparison with sockets without graft filling, by using CBCT and to compa

Activated carbon loading with metals oxides is new adsorbents and catalyst, which seem very promising for desulfurization process. The present study deals with the preparation of three metals oxides loaded on activated carbon (AC). The tri composite of ZnO/NiO/CoO/AC was characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), X-Ray florescence (XRF), N2 adsorption for BET surface area, pore volume and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The effect of calcination temperature is investigated. The best calcination temperature is 250oC based on the presence of phase, low weight loss and keep at high surface area. The surface area and pore volume of prepared tri composite are 932.97m2/g and 0.6031cm3/g respec

Stability and Dynamic Analysis of Laminated Composite Plates
...Show More Authors

Buckling and free vibration analysis of laminated rectangular plates with uniform and non uniform distributed in-plane compressive loadings along two opposite edges is performed using the Ritz method. Classical laminated plate theory is adopted. The static component of the applied in- plane loading are assumed to vary according to uniform, parabolic or linear distributions. Initially, the plate membrane problem is solved using the Ritz method; subsequently, using Hamilton’s variational principle, linear homogeneous algebraic equations in terms of unknown are generated, the set of linear algebraic equations can be solved as an Eigen-value problem. Buckling loads for laminated plates with different combinations of bounda

Use of Rainfall Data to Improve Ground-Based Active Optical Sensors Yield Estimates
...Show More Authors

Ground-based active optical sensors (GBAOS) have been successfully used in agriculture to predict crop yield potential (YP) early in the season and to improvise N rates for optimal crop yield. However, the models were found weak or inconsistent due to environmental variation especially rainfall. The objectives of the study were to evaluate if GBAOS could predict YP across multiple locations, soil types, cultivation systems, and rainfall differences. This study was carried from 2011 to 2013 on corn (Zea mays L.) in North Dakota, and in 2017 in potatoes in Maine. Six N rates were used on 50 sites in North Dakota and 12 N rates on two sites, one dryland and one irrigated, in Maine. Two active GBAOS used for this study were GreenSeeker and Holl
