Liquid-liquid membrane extraction technique, pertraction, using three types of solvents (methyl isobutyl ketone, n-butyl acetate, and n-amyl acetate) was used for recovery of penicillin V from simulated fermentation broth under various operating conditions of pH value (4-6) for feed and (6-8) for receiver phase, time (0-40 min), and agitation speed (300-500 rpm) in a batch laboratory unit system. The optimum conditions for extraction were at pH of 4 for feed, and 8 for receiver phase, rotation speed of 500 rpm, time of 40 min, and solvent of MIBK as membrane, where more than 98% of penicillin was extracted.

In this study a new strain of mesophilic Bacillus subtilis AIK, recorded for the first time in Iraq, was used to remove nickel (Ni) from aqueous solutions. The factors that affect bioremediation include temperature, pH value and metal concentrations. The results showed that the highest removal efficiency (R%) was 54, 52 and 48% at 25⁰C and pH of 5, 7 and 9, and with 10 ppm Ni concentration respectively. Whereas the highest R% recorded was 47, 45 and 52% at 30⁰C and of pH 5, 7, and 9 with 1 ppm Ni concentration respectively. OBJECTIVE: Synthetic vertebral body replacement has been widely used recently to treat different spinal conditions affecting the anterior column. They arrange from trauma, infections, and even tumor conditions. In this study, we assess the functional outcome of this modality in different spinal conditions. Concentration of NORM then radiological hazard indices were investigated and assessed in different stages of oil and gas production industry that belongs to East Baghdad Oil Field. Sixteen samples of different types of materials were collected representing oil and gas production from first stage to final stage. The samples are prepared then sent to Radiation Protection Center (RPC) / Ministry of Environment for radioactivity analysis using gamma ray spectrometry system based on HPGe. The results show that max value of Ra-226 is 252.4 Bq/kg in sediment sample collected from the final stage of water treatment before it is transferred to disposal well and min value is 1.2 Bq/kg in formation water.
