The correlation betwwen FEVI/ FVC with arm span to height or chest to waist ratio as an index of pulmonary function in healthy subject

Background: the interpretation of pulmonary function tests relies on reference values corrected for age. Sex and height may be difficult to measure in patients with deformities of the thoracic cage or those who are unable to stand up propely.

Using Restricted Least Squares Method to Estimate and Analyze the Cobb-Douglas Production Function with Application

In this paper, the restricted least squares method is employed to estimate the parameters of the Cobb-Douglas production function and then analyze and interprete the results obtained.         A practical application is performed on the state company for leather industries in Iraq for the period (1990-2010).         The statistical program SPSS is used to perform the required calculations.

Effects of Glycitein Injections on Native Chickens’ Ability to Reproduce, Sex Ratio in Offspring
Abstract<p>The aim of this study was to improve the reproductive ability of native Iraqi chickens with the use of glycitein. The Studie was conducted on a of 120 Iraqi native chickens, consisting of 100 hens and 20 roosters. The chickens were 26 weeks old at the time of the study. The chickens were divided into four treatment groups, with each group consisting of 25 chicks. The experimental design consisted of four groups: the first group served as the non-injection control (referred to as T1), while the remaining groups (T2, T3, and T4) were treated with injections of glycitein at concentrations of 5, 10, and 15 mg/kg body weight, respectively. These injections were given subcutaneously in the </p> ... Show More

Deep Convolutional Neural Network Architecture to Detect COVID-19 from Chest X-Ray Images

Today, the world is living in a time of epidemic diseases that spread unnaturally and infect and kill millions of people worldwide. The COVID-19 virus, which is one of the most well-known epidemic diseases currently spreading, has killed more than six million people as of May 2022. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after an outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 infection. COVID-19 is a severe and potentially fatal respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which was first noticed at the end of 2019 in Wuhan city. Artificial intelligence plays a meaningful role in analyzing medical images and giving accurate results that serve healthcare workers, especially X-ray images, which are co

Study to amino acid-based inhibitors as an effective anti-corrosion material

The inhibitory behavior of L-Cysteine (Cys) and its derivatives towards iron corrosion through density functional theory (DFT) was investigated. The current research study undertakes a rigorous evaluation of global as well as local reactivity descriptors of the Cys in protonated as well as neutral forms and the changes in reactivity after the combination of Cys into di- and tripeptides. The inhibitory effect of di- and tri-peptides increases since, in the molecular structure, the number of reaction centers increase. We computed the adsorption energies (Eads) and low energy complexes with most stability for the adsorption of small peptides and Cys amino acids onto the surfaces of Fe (1 1 1). We found that the adsorption of tri-peptides onto

Studying The Factors Associated With Relapse Of Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Baghdad

Background:  Relapse is defined as recurrent tuberculosis at any time after completion of treatment and apparent cure Recurrence of tuberculosis may occur as a result of relapsed infection due to the same Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain, or due to exogenous reinfection with a new strain.

Objective: To study the factors associated with relapse of pulmonary  tuberculosis.

Methods:. Across sectional study had been done in the chest and respiratory diseases teaching specialized center in Baghdad during the period from the  1st  of January 2010 to the 30th of July 2011. A total of 58 patients with  relapsed pulmonary tuber

Using Backpropagation to Predict Drought Factor in Keetch-Byram Drought Index

Forest fires continue to rise during the dry season and they are difficult to stop. In this case, high temperatures in the dry season can cause an increase in drought index that could potentially burn the forest every time. Thus, the government should conduct surveillance throughout the dry season. Continuous surveillance without the focus on a particular time becomes ineffective and inefficient because of preventive measures carried out without the knowledge of potential fire risk. Based on the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI), formulation of Drought Factor is used just for calculating the drought today based on current weather conditions, and yesterday's drought index. However, to find out the factors of drought a day after, the data

Immunohistochemical analysis of CD34 to evaluate angiogenesis in chronic lymphocytic leukemia

Background: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) results from a progressive accumulation of long-lived, functionally incompetent, nonproliferating lymphocytes.
Angiogenesis is defined as the formation of new capillaries from pre-existing blood vessels and plays an important role in the progression of solid tumors as well as several hematologic malignancies like CLL.
Patients and methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study done on 68 patients with CLL compared with 15 control individuals (anemic patients), all recruited at the Medical City Teaching Laboratories from January 2005 to December 2008. The bone marrow biopsy (BMB) of each was re-examined histologically. Immunohistochemical (IHC) technique was performed on BMB sections ut

Relationship sensitivity to stress with positive mood Among Educational Counselors

The study aimed to examine the sensitivity to stress and its relation to positive mood among educational supervisors. The researcher used the descriptive approach as more an appropriate method for the current study. The sample is composed of (200) educational supervisor. To collect study data, two scales have been used: one scale to measure the sensitivity to stress and the other to measure the positive mood. The results indicated that a high level of sensitivity to stress with low level of positive mood among educational supervisors, sensitivity to stress showed significant differences among the sample regarding to major. There is no correlation between sensitivity to stress and positive mood, and finally, there are no significant diffe

Correlation between Serum Levels of Factor I, CD59, Interferon-gamma, and Interleukin-6 with the Response to Rituximab in Iraqi Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Background: Rituximab is a chimeric IgG1 kappa immunoglobulin that has been genetically modified to incorporate human constant region sequences together with murine light- and heavy-chain variable region sequences. People use it to treat rheumatoid arthritis and certain malignancies. Objective: The study aimed to assess the potential association between the serum levels of Factor I, CD59, interleukins (IL)-6, and interferon-gamma (IFN)-γ and the response to Rituximab treatment in Iraqi rheumatoid arthritis patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the rheumatology center at Baghdad Teaching Hospital. Ninety adult patients who have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and are receiving  Rituximab intravenous i
