Evaluation of in vitro activity of Calvatia craniiformis extract against bacteria isolated from pregnant women with asymptomatic bacteriuria

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common disease associated with pregnant women due to several anatomical and hormonal changes in pregnant women lead to ureteral dilatation and urinary infection, many of microorganisms such as fungi, viruses, and bacteria have numerous virulence factors that enhance their ability to colonize in pregnant women. Some bacteria have resistance toward many antimicrobial agents for treatment has led to therapeutic difficulties worldwide, in order that many investigators try to test fungal extract to reduce bacterial infection.

Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of extract of Calvatia craniiformis on different types of bacteria which was isolated from pregnant women with asymptomatic bacteriuria.

Materials and methods: One hundred five vaginal swabs were collected from pregnant women with asymptomatic bacteriuria attending to Al-Batool hospital for maternity and children in Diyala Governorate during the period from 1st /April /2012 till 1st/ July/2012.

All specimens were streak on blood agar and MacConke ager, then identified according to standard bacteriology and biochemical criteria. The susceptibility patterns toward 6 antimicrobial agents were done by disc diffusion methods, 40% Calvatia craniiformis extract used for study the effect of this extract against different types of bacteria .

Results: Fifty fife out of 105 samples (52.38%) were demonstrated negative bacteria growth while 50 out of 105 samples (47.61%) demonstrated positive bacteria culture. The isolated revealed that 22 Escherichia coli, 15 Klebsiella, 11 Proteus, and 2 Staphylococcus saprophetec. The majority of bacterial isolates were sensitive to 40% concentration of extract of Calvatia craniiformis.

Conclusion: Extract of Calvatia craniiformis was effective as antibacterial against antibiotic resistant strain.

Spectrophotometric Determination of Allopurinol in Tablet Formulation

A new spectrophotometric method for the determination of allopurinol drug was investigated. The proposed method was based on the reaction of the intended drug with catechol and Fe(II) to form a blue soluble complex which was measured at λmax 580 nm. A graph of absorbance versus concentration shown that Beer’s law was obeyed over the concentration range of 2–10 μg ml–1 with molar absorptivity of 9.4 x 103 l mol–1 cm–1 and Sandell sensitivity of 1.4 x 10–2 μg cm–2. A recovery percentage of 100% with RSD of 1.0%–1.3% was obtained. The proposed method was applied successfully for the determination of allopurinol drug in tablets with a good accuracy and

Social discipline in the building of society

In order to get an idea about things closely, we should look at the role of social discipline
in the building of society from civilization cultural viewpoint. The real weigh of the societal

civilization cultural accumulative experience inherited by the generations, which determine its
distinguished character. That is based upon the social construction in which the methods of
socialization and political, economic, cultural and religious stability and enhance the national
and ethical character of self-realization.
In this research, we try to give an analysis for the obstacles in political economic and
religious social

Behavior of Defective Cast in Place Piles

This paper deals with testing defected model piles in the soil in order to study their behavior. In this respect, the results of model pile tests are discussed either geotechnically or structurally according to the type of failure.   Two parameters were studied in order to evaluate the general behavior of defective piles. These parameters include the defect location and the defect type for floating and end bearing pile. The results of the experimental work indicated that the critical case for floating pile is seen to be when the defect of (5%) at the first third of the pile length at which the decrease in the bearing capacity is about (21%), while the decrease in the bearing capacity is found to be (14%) and (10%), when

Biochemical Study of Gallstones Compositions in Iraqipatients

The aim of this study is to determine the organic and inorganic components of bile and gallstones in Iraqi patients. Forty seven patients were included in this study with mean age (53+7) years and BMI (30.82+4.18) Kg/m2. Bile was classified according to its corresponding stones into: Bile of Mixed stones and Bile of pigment stones. IR spectra were studied for both types of stones and their bile in addition to biochemical analysis for organic and inorganic components. The organic components include: (cholesterol, bilirubin, bile salts, and phospholipids), while inorganic components include salts of: (calcium, phosphorus, iron, cupper and magnesium). The results reveal to there was significant low levels (p<0.005) of bile salts and phospholi

Some Types of Compactness in Bitopological Spaces

In this paper, we give the concept of N-open set in bitopological spaces, where N is the first letter of the name of one of the authors, then we used this concept to define a new kind of compactness, namely N-compactness and we define the N-continuous function in bitopological spaces.         We study some properties of N-compact spaces, and the relationships between this kind and two other known kinds which are S-compactness and pair-wise compactness.

Drug misuse is defined as using of drugs for a non-therapeutic or non-medical purpose. In Iraq drug misuse is a major problem because almost any drug can be easily obtained from pharmacies. Appetite- stimulant drugs are example of drugs that are widely used without a prescription. The study included 230 patients who use these drugs in Babylon. A questionnaire included the following questions ; age, sex, marital state, the reason for use the drug , whether the drug is prescribed by physician or not , type of drug used , the frequency of daily dose and lastly the extent of side effects of the drugs used. The results showed that the age range of 35% of subjects were (17-21) years old and 70% of participants were females. The study also show
