Background : AgNOR parameters are well known to pathologists as a proliferation marker with advantage over other proliferation markers of being cheaper, simpler and able to assess
proliferation speed as well as state , AgNOR stainability was found to be well preserved in smears kept for up to 2 years , studies have shown that AgNOR values can serve as a useful
prognostic parameter and a marker for tumour progression in different carcinomas (1) This study was conducted to see the importance of AgNOR staining in the peritoneal fluid
cytopathological examination
Patient and Methods: It was a descriptive and prospective study conducted in Department of cytopathology in the medical city and Department of pathology n the medical college of
Baghdad University, from September 2003 to June 2007. AgNOR staining was performed on 50 peritoneal fluid specimens having malignant cells and 20 other peritoneal fluid specimens
as control cases
Results: AgNOR count, size and dispersion were normal in benign mesothelial cells (the proportion of cells with 1 or 2 AgNOR dots ranged from 32% to 98% with a median of 82%
and a mean of 80.7%, S.D. 15.4 the proportion of cells with clusters ranged from 0% to12% with a median of 0% and a mean of 1.3%, S.D. 2.5 ) , higher in the malignant cells(the
proportion of cells with 1 or 2 AgNOR dots ranged from 15% to 75% with a median of 30.5% and a mean of 28.9%, S.D. 21.1, the proportion of cells with clusters ranged from 23% to88%
with a median of 67.6% and a mean of 56.2%, S.D. 36.7 ). AgNOR counts in the malignant cells were significantly greater as compared with counts of normal mesothelial cells .
Conclusion: Typing of AgNOR count, size and dispersion was found to be an important marker in differentiation between normal mesothelial cells and malignant cells of metastatic
adenocarcinoma
Background: penetrating foreign body is a common problem but penetration by screw driver is very uncommon
Patient & method: A nine years old boy presented with penetrating screw driver through the medial canthus of the eye.
Result: the foreign body removed under GA with good result.
Conclusion: minimal invasive procedure are preferred when we have penetrating head injury.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the histopathological response of dentinopulpal
response of human teeth to the Er: YAG laser cavity preparation in comparison with the conventional
class I cavity preparation. Thirty five sound human upper and lower first premolar teeth which were
needed to be extracted for orthodontic purposes were used in the study. Regarding to the method of
cavity preparation, the teeth were grouped into three groups; Group1; Control group which consists of
seven sound teeth without cavity preparation, Group2; Conventional cavity preparation group and group
3; Er: YAG laser cavity preparation group. Each of Group2 and3 consists of fourteen teeth that is
subdivided into: A. 7teeth that e
Toxicity with advanced glycation end products (AGEs) is a major problem in uremic patients. Treatment with peritoneal dialysis (PD) exacerbates AGE formation as a result of bioincompatibility of the conventional peritoneal dialysis fluid (PDF). The presence of glucose degradation products (GDPs) in PDF is the main cause of its bioincompatibility. Carnosine is an endogenous dipeptide with a powerful antiglycation/antioxidant activity. In an attempt to improve PDF biocompatibility, we evaluated the effect of carnosine in human peritoneal mesothelial cells (HPMC) incubated with PDF or GDPs in vitro. Methods: HPMC were incubated for short or prolonged time with PDF in the presence or absence of carnosine. Similarly, HPMC were incubated in the s

Objectives: this study was conducted to estimate the effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in Iraqi patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma
Patients and methods: This study included sixty patients already diagnosed with nasopharyngeal tumors who attended the department of oncology in Baghdad teaching hospital during the period from January 2009 to December 2010,50 patients of them were treated by using combination chemotherapy in the form of Paclitaxel,5Flurouracil and cisplatinol for 4 courses prior to radiotherapy. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy was given due to advanced stage at p
Background: The present study aimed to assess the distribution, prevalence, severity of malocclusion in Baghdad governorate in relation to gender and residency Materials and Methods: A multi-stage stratified sampling technique was used in this investigation to make the sample a representative of target population. The sample consisted of 2700 (1349 males and 1351 females) intermediate school students aged 13 years representing 3% of the total target population. A questionnaire was used to determine the perception of occlusion and orthodontic treatment demand of the students and the assessment procedures for occlusal features by direct intraoral measurement using veriner and an instrument to measure the rotated and displaced teeth. CL remains a public health problem in numerous endemic countries because of the absence of safe, effective, and high-cost drugs for treatment. Macrophages are the main inhabitant cell for Leishmania; they phagocyte and allow parasite multiplying. Phagocytosis and anti-leishmanial activity of macrophage are the main factors in the elimination of Leishmania parasites. Phagosome-resident amastigotes also evade innate host defense mechanisms. Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) have an important effect in stimulating the production of oxygen species. The objective of this study was to examine macrophages cytotoxicity upon exposure to L. tropica and Ag NPs. Se

The concept of the territory requires conditions on the nature of functional relations and the mutual influence of the regions within the region. Any territory must be based on the interdependence and interaction between the mother city and its surrounding countryside and cities, and when the interdependence is strong and the interaction is clear, it helps to define the territory. The regions are divided on different bases. There are geographically or national homogeneous regions, and there are cultural regions that want to preserve their culture in terms of language or religion. There are administrative regions to manage

Cervical cancer is the easiest gynecologic cancer to be prevented and diagnosed using regular screening tests and follow-up. This study aimed to estimate the cytological changes and the precancerous lesions using Pap smear test and visual inspection of the cervices of Iraqi women, and also to determine the possible relationship of this cancer with patients’ demographic characteristics. Methods: The study included 140 women aged (18-67) years old referred to the National Cancer Research Center (NCRC), Baghdad, Iraq, during the period 2011-2016. Both visual inspections of the uterine cervix and Papanicolaou smear screening were performed

However, despite these features, the ultrasound suffers from problems. These problems are speckle noise and artifacts. In this paper, a new method is proposed to improve US images by removing speckle noise and reducing artifacts to enhance the contrast of the image. The proposed method involves algorithms for image preprocessing and segmentation. A median filter is used to smooth the image in the pre-processing. Additionally, to obtain best results, applying median filter with different kernel values. We take the better output of the median filter and feed it into the Gaussian filter, which then
