The purpose of this research is to enhance the methods of surface seismic data processing and interpretation operations by using the produced information of vertical seismic profile (measured velocity and corridor stack). Sindbad oil field (South of Iraq) is chosen to study goals and it's containing only one well with VSP survey (Snd2) that covering depth from Zubair to Sulaiy Formations and 2D seismic lines of Basrah Survey. The horizons were picked and used with low frequency contents from well data for the construction of low frequency model and it was used with high frequency of VSP to make the high frequency model that compensated to seismic main frequency through inversion process. Seismic inversion technique is performed on post stack of 2D seismic data (2Br2) through Hampson-Russell CGG program. The inversion model of low frequency shows 88.5% matching with relative seismic impedance while high frequency model 93.3% matching with lower error percent. The two impedance sections which resulted from inversion model were convoluted with best wavelet from VSP data to make a new seismic section. The LFM section was similar to original seismic section while the HFM section shows real enhancement of the Flatspot (DHI) feature and recoverable some missing reflectors.
This research includes structure interpretation of the Yamama Formation (Lower Cretaceous) and the Naokelekan Formation (Jurassic) using 2D seismic reflection data of the Tuba oil field region, Basrah, southern Iraq. The two reflectors (Yamama and Naokelekan) were defined and picked as peak and tough depending on the 2D seismic reflection interpretation process, based on the synthetic seismogram and well log data. In order to obtain structural settings, these horizons were followed over all the regions. Two-way travel-time maps, depth maps, and velocity maps have been produced for top Yamama and top Naokelekan formations. The study concluded that certain longitudinal enclosures reflect anticlines in the east and west of the study ar

After applied FDNAT on the seismic data, it gives good results and caused to remove a lot of random noise. This processing is helpful in enhancement the picking of the signal of the reflectors and therefore the interpretation of data will be easy later. The quality control by using spectrum analysis is used as a quality factor in proving the effects of FDNAT filter to remove the random noise.
An interpretive study of two-dimension seismic data of the Huwaiza oilfield was carried out using Petrel 2015 program. Twenty seismic section were used, these seismic sections were carried out at three-time stages: HH survey in 1976, 2HH survey in 1978 and AM in 1980. Mishrif and Nahr Umr reservoirs were selected to study because they are the most important reservoirs in the neighbor fields. The study showed that the structure is an anticline trending North-South, so that the field may belong to Zubair tectonic subzone rather than Tigris subzone, which is northwest-southeast trending. A hypothetical model was drawn up showing the extension of the field in the Iraqi and Iranian territories based on information from both sides, it showed t

Show MoreThe seismic method depends on the nature of the reflected waves from the interfaces between layers, which in turn depends on the density and velocity of the layer, and this is called acoustic impedance. The seismic sections of the East Abu-Amoud field that is located in Missan Province, south-eastern Iraq, were studied and interpreted for updating the structural picture of the major Mishrif Formation for the reservoir in the field. The Mishrif Formation is rich in petroleum in this area, with an area covering about 820 km2. The horizon was calibrated and defined on the seismic section with well logs data (well tops, check shot, sonic logs, and density logs) in the interp

Show MoreCoherent noise such as ground roll and guided wave is present in the seismic line DE21 (East Diwaniya south eastern Iraq) and it obscures seismic signal and degrades from the quality of data. To attenuate the coherent noise from the shot gather and the Stack of the seismic line, AGORA filter was applied in order to obtain the good signal as the hyperbola shape in shot gather and the reflectors will be clearly to interpret it later. It has given good results and the coherent noise was attenuated in high ratio on all the line. The spectrum analysis is confirmed the effectiveness of AGORA filter to attenuate the coherent noise.
In this paper, we attempt to predict the depositional environments with associated lithofacies of the main reservoir of the late Cretaceous Mishrif carbonate Formation, depending on the analysis of the created seismic isopach map by integrating seismic and well data. The isopach map was created from a 3D-seismic reflection survey carried out at the Dujaila oil field in southeastern Iraq, which is of an area of 602.26 Km2, and integrated with the data of the two explored wells. Based on the interpretation of the seismic isopach map, the diagram of the 3D-depositional environment model of Mishrif Formation was constructed. It showed three distinguished depositional environments, which were graduated from a back reef lithofacies of a shallo

A workflow is designed to guide the manual procedure of inversion process. The inversion use a Model Based Inversion technique to convert 3D seismic data into 3D acoustic impedance depending on low frequency model and well data is the first step in the inversion with statistical control for each inversion stage. Then, training the 3D acoustic impedance volume, seismic data and porosity wells data with multi attribute transforms to find the best statistical attribute that is suitable to invert the point direct measurement of porosity from well to 3D porosity distribut
... Show MoreTau-P linear noise attenuation filter (TPLNA) was applied on the 3D seismic data of Al-Samawah area south west of Iraq with the aim of attenuating linear noise. TPLNA transforms the data from time domain to tau-p domain in order to increase signal to noise ratio. Applying TPLNA produced very good results considering the 3D data that usually have a large amount of linear noise from different sources and in different azimuths and directions. This processing is very important in later interpretation due to the fact that the signal was covered by different kinds of noise in which the linear noise take a large part.
Three seismic instantaneous attributes (phase, frequency, and variance) were utilized on 3D-seismic poststack migrated data, covering 617.31 km2, integrated with data of two wells (Du-1 and Du-2) in Dujaila oil field, southeast of Iraq. They gave good results in detecting reef buildups and confirmed the existence of the stratigraphic hydrocarbon trap that was not obvious in the conventional seismic amplitude sections. They display several seismic criteria in attribute sections for recognizing reef buildups and hydrocarbon accumulation, such as phase reversal, low frequency, and high amplitude variance. The seismic attributes emphasized that the stratigraphic trap of reef rudist buildups with hydrocarbon content is con
