Extraction and Application of Natural Colourant from the Bark of Berlinia Grandiflora on Cotton and Polyamide 6 Fabrics

The aim of this study is to extract and utilise the bark of Berlinia grandiflora as a natural dye source for the colouration of cotton and polyamide 6 fabrics. The solvents used for this study were water, methanol, acetone, and methanol/potassium hydroxide. The best of all the solvents used was water. In the extraction process, the various solvents were extracted with Soxhlet extractor.  The optimum colourant extraction was observed at 40 °C for 2 h.  The extracted compound was isolated and characterized by UV spectrophotometry; proton and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.  Mordanting and subsequent dyeing of cotton and polyamide 6 fabrics with the extracted colourant were performed to investigate the dye’s efficiency.  Two metal salts, namely copper sulphate and stannous chloride, were used as mordants.  Furthermore, the washing, rubbing, and light fastness properties of dyed samples were tested. The results of the fastness tests showed that the natural dye gave light fastness value (3= fair) without the use of mordants, whereas the values were 5 on cotton and 4 on nylon 6 with the use of mordants. The results of fastness of rubbing and washing were excellent for both cotton and nylon. The outcome of the study presents a potentially useful natural colourant for the colouration of natural and synthetic fibers.

Study of the x-ray diffraction lines of calcium titanate nanoparticle using SSP method and Scherrer method

In this study, the modified size-strain plot (SSP) method was used to analyze the x-ray diffraction lines pattern of diffraction lines (1 0 1), (1 2 1), (2 0 2), (0 4 2), (2 4 2) for the calcium titanate(CaTiO3) nanoparticles, and to calculate lattice strain, crystallite size, stress, and energy density, using three models: uniform (USDM). With a lattice strain of (2.147201889), a stress of (0.267452615X10), and an energy density of (2.900651X10-3 KJ/m3), the crystallite was 32.29477611 nm in size, and to calculate lattice strain of Scherrer (4.1644598X10−3), and (1.509066023X10−6 KJ/m3), a stress of(6.403949183X10−4MPa) and (26.019894 nm).

Evaluation of Zinc, Copper, and Lead Levels in The Blood of Breast Cancer Women in Baghdad City

     The current study was conducted on 100 females who were divided into two main groups; 60 with breast cancer and 40 healthy controls. Blood samples were collected from both premenopausal and postmenopausal breast cancer and healthy women. The samples were appropriately processed for the analysis of trace elements (zinc, copper, and lead) by using flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry (FAAS). MINERALOGY AND GEOCHEMISTRY OF CORAL REEF IN IRAQI MARINE ENVIRONMENT IN THE NORTH PART OF ARABIAN GULF

    Coral reef area in northwest of the Arabian Gulf was investigated for mineralogy and geochemistry to throw lights on such unique Iraqi Marine Environment; six specimens of two main species of coral reefs, Platygyra pini Chevalier, 1975 and Octocoral Menella were collected at two sites. While eight samples of the surrounding sediments are chosen from other two sites. The mineralogy is determined by XRD, and reveals that calcite, low magnesium-calcite, and aragonite are the main minerals that comprise the Octocoral Menella in site 1, whilst aragonite and calcite are dominate in the P. pini coral reef at site 4.
