Fexofenadine Adsorption by Activated Charcoal Impregnated with Hydrogen Peroxide
...Show More Authors

The adsorption of fexofenadine drug by activated charcoal powder impregnated with hydrogen peroxide (IAC) to improve its surface properties was investigated. The investigation also aimed to assess the effect of the repeated dose in increasing the amount of the drug adsorbed. The powder activated charcoal was impregnated with H2O2 3%. The effects of pH of the solution, concentration of the drug and time of the reaction parameters were investigated by using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The IAC was brought in contact with the drug solution in different pH (2, 4, 7 and 9), drug concentrations (30, 60, 90 and 120 µg ml-1) and time (15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes). After each experiment, a repeated dose of IAC was introduced into the solution and the adsorption process was repeated. The results showed that the amounts of the drug adsorbed were decreased with increasing the pH and increased with increasing the concentration of solution and time of contact. The adsorption capacity was enhanced to about 70% after the addition of the repeated dose. The study showed a spectrum displacement toward the blue region (blue shift) for the drug supernatant in all experiment parameters, which was almost doubled when a repeated dose was added.

Removing Cobalt ions from Industrial Wastewater Using Chitosan
...Show More Authors

In batch experiments, a natural chitosan adsorbent was employed to extract cobalt ions from industrial wastewater under varied parameters of starting concentration, adsorbent weight, pH, and contact duration. The adsorbent was examined using FTIR, XRD, and AFM. For an initial cobalt ion concentration of 5x10-2 mol/l at pH 6, time 35 minutes, temperature 25 °C, and adsorbing dose 0.1 g, the results showed a maximum removal percentage of 99.0 percent. The Freundlich isotherm and the pseudo-second order kinetic model both suit the experimental data well. According to thermodynamic studies, the process was spontaneous and endothermic.

Removal of Direct 50 Dyes from Aqueous Solution Using Natural Clay and Organoclay Adsorbents
...Show More Authors

In this study, hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HDMAB) - bentonite was synthesized by placing alkylammonium cation onto bentonite. Adsorption of textile dye such as direct Yellow 50 on natural bentonite and HDMAB -bentonite was investigated. The effects of pH, contact time, dosage clay and temperature were investigated experimentally .The Langmuir and Freundlish isotherms equations were applied to the data and values of parameters of these isotherm equations were evaluated. The study indicated that using 0.2 g of HDMAB (hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide) lead to increase the percentage removal(R%) from 78% for pure bentonite to 99 %. The optimum pH value for the adsorption experiments was found to be pH=3 and therefore all the experim

Measurement of Absorbed Dose in Water Using Co-60 gamma source Teletherapy Units According to IAEA Dosimetry Protocols
...Show More Authors

Modern radiotherapy facilities like 3-Dimensional conformal radio therapy (3DCRT), Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), were recently suggested in Co-60 machine with Multi-leaf Collimator (MLC). In this study, two reference chambers NE-2571#1205 and NE2581#537 were used for absolute dose measurement in Equinox accelerator. A comparison of dose measurement by two different IAEA protocols TRS-277 and TRS-398 has been studied. Analyzing TRS-398, a common shaped empirical formula was developed for the four Co-60 units of four Medical Colleges in Bangladesh with fitting parameters. It was found that an average discrepancy in the determination of absorbed dose in water among the two different protocols TRS-277 and TRS-398 were 1

Modeling Jar Test Results Using Gene Expression to Determine the Optimal Alum Dose in Drinking Water Treatment Plants
...Show More Authors

Coagulation is the most important process in drinking water treatment. Alum coagulant increases the aluminum residuals, which have been linked in many studies to Alzheimer's disease. Therefore, it is very important to use it with the very optimal dose. In this paper, four sets of experiments were done to determine the relationship between raw water characteristics: turbidity, pH, alkalinity, temperature, and optimum doses of alum [   .14 O] to form a mathematical equation that could replace the need for jar test experiments. The experiments were performed under different conditions and under different seasonal circumstances. The optimal dose in every set was determined, and used to build a gene expression model (GEP). The models were co

Theoretical Study for the Calculation of Proton Range in Human Body Tissues
...Show More Authors

The main rationale for using charged particles in radiation therapy is the strong rise of energy loss (deposited dose) with maximum penetration depth ( Bragg peak) and rapid dose deposited  behind the peak. Thus, a large dose can be  applied to a deep seated tumor, with saving the surrounding normal tissues . Proton radiotherapy is nowadays an established method in the management of cancer diseases, although its availability is still limited to a few specialized centers. In this study, the range and the stopping power for proton interaction  in the skeleton  and intestine tissues, for an energy range from 0.01 to 300 MeV, was studied. The numerical calculations and analyses of Bethe&nbs

The Effect of Molecular Imprinting on the Loading and Release of Poorly Water Soluble Drug in Hydrogel Gontact Lenses
...Show More Authors

Therapeutic contact lenses TCLs is an approach used to enhance corneal residence time and reduce frequent instillation, which is a problem with eye drops.  The problem with CLs is loading of hydrophobic drugs. In this research the CLs were prepared with molecular imprinting MI to enhance the loading of itraconazole, which is used as antifungal drug for fungal keratitis. CLs using different  concentration of hydroxyethyl methacrylate HEMA and methacrylic acid MAA were prepared with and without MI using PEGDA (25 μL) and AIBN (37 mg) as crosslinker and initiator respectively. All the prepared CLs were clear and have good folding endurance. MICLs had significantly higher drug loading compared to conventional CLs. The release of i
